I'm all for praise, but are we at the stage where we are praising a chairman earning millions a year for putting a basic plan in place, and seemingly one that came about because after 22 years of involvement in an industry it needed an independent review of the business to tell him where he was going wrong.
If by praise you mean he's finally realised he needs to get out of his own fucking way then praise be, and to add, he knows he's in a tight spot, essentially forced into it because his real motives are being rumbled.
All very fair points mate.

Fair mate I also see that perspective.

I just don't think he's going anywhere so for now am choosing to be positive and focus on what should be an exciting new project.
It should be an exciting new project. I’m just very aware of what will most likely take the wind out of our sails.

True, I'm choosing😅 to ignore it for now and hope for the best.

I don't think we need to spend hugely we just need a plan and an identity and to recruit well for that.

Key being Levy giving the Manager and DofF full control to do that both IN's and OUT's, if he does we should be able to get behind this exciting new project.

And if he doesn’t he’ll write off another season or two and promise to learn for next time.

It’s not that I won’t give him a chance. It’s that I’ve given him many.

This is the sad thing. We should all be excited about the new coach but so many are tempering that excitement with the reality of Levy and his inabilty to leave things alone.

We don't know how Scott Munn is going to work with Levy though (as well as Ange), because he hasn't even officially started.

I get judging on past experiences, but we have a new set up and partnership. We kind of have to see how this plays out. I know many don't believe Levy will completely step aside (I have my reservations and want him out still myself), however until enough time has passed to judge the Munn and Ange era we can't say for certain either way whether or not Levy has in fact changed for the better (or worse).

True but also I don’t think Big Ange needs us to spend huge money or will be quite as fussy over his player requirements as it’s a flexible overall system where’s Jose and Conte were terrible fits with Levy as they had rigid defensive systems and unrealistic player and budget requirements.

I think Levy & Munn are more likely to let Ange do what he wants and it won’t cost us a ton but he can shape an effective overall new squad and style of play.

Let's just hope Ange loves a bargain and it seems he is used to that in his previous jobs. This is the only way it works with Levy. It worked with Redknapp who was a good wheeler dealer type. It worked with Poch when he came from Espanyol and Southampton. It fell aside as his team got better and his demand got higher because he wanted titles. We need to somehow keep the manager happy with a tight budget no matter how much we progress and look to overachieve year on year. Only a takeover changes our perspective from pushing for Europe on limited funds to serious contenders. At least we have an underdog manager now which suits us and we finally have the brand of football that fits our DNA.

Harry won't like that.

We need quality mate, which often costs, and Levy always leaves us a couple of players short- and always will

Even if levy keeps out of things this summer and everyone thinks it’s a new dawn I’ve no doubt further down the line he’ll star sticking his nose in

Did it work with Redknapp or did Harry just have his legs chopped off when handed Saha and Nelson when we were at the beginning of a title challenge?

The truth is things were different back then, almost all of the players we spent money on under Harry were premier league players that we managed to get on decent deals. Those deals don’t really exist anymore as the smaller premier league teams demand too much money and players like palacios and bassong would command 30-40 million.

We were never pushing for a title under Redknapp. He literally said it's as good as it will get with 4th place. I never got the sense he wanted to go signing the best players.
I think his targets were largely up the street of Levy. Every manager will get the odd player they don't necessarily ask for as well though. I think it gets a bit exaggerated with Levy to be honest. I think it gets spoken as if Levy actually picks players out but I don't believe that. I think Levy is presented with targets because he has the final say on the financial side. He then opts to go for the most cost effective one of those options. As long as a manager is happy enough working with those cheaper options it can work to some extent. We will just never reach the top level doing it.

If defoe puts it away at the back post before Balotelli scores that penalty we are right at the beginning of a title challenge.

The point is the players Harry wanted would cost a fortune now, they were bargains back then but there were bargains to be had back then. Premier league players with potential command too much money for us to shop in that market in the same way as we did back then.

Not sure I see what your point is. We signed players based on the market at the time which suited the financial requirements of Levy.
It's not like there aren't bargains to be had today especially with more players running down their contracts. We just shop for a bargain in the current market now.
