I would say if we had a top CB in a few weeks ago we would be in a good position so it’s not that much needed.

However you are right, it is boarding on negligence to have a giant issue in one position and simply think you can potentially sacrifice a few games and some points early in the season to save a few quid which is what having a clear position issue can cause.

I don’t get why the club thinks leaving holes in the team is acceptable for a top side as we have done this on more than 1 occasion.
It isn't just a few quid. It's millions.

Sacrificing those games isn't likely to matter anyway; we are a mid-table team and aren't willing/don't want to risk what it takes, to get into Europe. We are not a top side and this wont change over this window.

It's an interesting point.

I still believe the 1st 10 years or so of Levy was pretty good. When we were finishing 5th and Arsenal 4th, our turnover was around £100m a year less than theirs. It was a large gap to close.

We did push from lower mid table to 5th best in the country. Was it from Levy being a genius and making great footballing decisions? No. I don't think he knew the right process when he hired Redknapp and Poch anymore than why he knows Ramos and others failed.

But nevertheless, we had a good upwards projectory.

He has his strengths and weaknesses. I believe his strength in looking for value worked well during the time period of his 1st decade. But nowadays, the chances of buying the likes of Carrick, Bale, Modric and others without much competition for their signings are long gone.

His weaknesses have always been there, but his strengths are not much of a benefit in the modern game.

Yep, agreed, purchasing from £1m - £10m we were quite good at, players didn't lose a ton of value and we had a couple of big hits that evened the books out, but everyone has better recruitment structures now.
The game has been changing and DL hasn't, you can't just wheel and deal now, you need extensive knowledge otherwise expensive mistakes will be made... *eye roll emoji...

Yeah I think that goes without saying. If you look at the reactions to my post though I’m amazed that he has so many people’s support still. Quite baffling.

His legacy will now be losing our greatest ever goal scorer. All the stadium etc will be forgotten compared to it. Saying that, the transfer isn’t official yet
Another Spurs forum actually had a poll out on whether they prefer Levy or Kane to get out of the club

The last I look was 21 - 8 which is mind boggling..I would have th the vote would be 29-0

To think there are actually 25 % of our fans would rather Kane leave than Levy

There really is a Levy cult out there

Or there's a Levy out cult in here?

Or maybe it's simply that a bunch of different people have different opinions.

there is, but I'd wager that a few of that very small sample preferring Kane to go are either
tired of the Kane saga/narrative or
think he wouldn't sign a new contract regardless of who's in charge

I wonder if those most angry are some of those most taken in by him. I reckon I could count on one hand the number of SC'ers who were awake to him early on :D

We're having a reunion soon. There'll be finger food, bunting and games of blindfolded pin the dildo on Levy's bumhole.
I think so. My peak anger was when there was talk of singing "there's only one Daniel Levy".

You have to just strap in for the ride these days. We're going to be entertained either by competing or by watching the most spectacular crash and burn ever witnessed.

God knows what would have happened if you'd have seen some people suggesting that he should have a statue outside the ground.

I'm not kidding :D

Maybe calling it the Daniel Levy Stadium would be too much but at the very least he is due a stand named after him in honour of seeing the stadium project through :sneaky:

215 mil is not sponsorship, ffs!
Commercial revenues from sponsorship and merchandising grew £31.5m (a 20.7% increase) as a result of new sponsors, stores being open, growth of eCommerce and the start of new major events being hosted at the stadium throughout the year.

Maybe they have a bigger fan base because they are more successful on the pitch?
Here is from Swiss Ramble for the season 2020-21:
OK that is correct commercial income is not all sponsorship and lets forget Deloitte and use actual figures.
I have no idea who Swiss Ramble is but that graphic does not seem to relate to financial accounts released by the club especially in comparison to Arsenal.
Conveniently in the latest financial accounts Spurs do tell us how the commercial revenue is made up . Commercial revenue for year end 2022 was £183.5 millions , that was made up of sponsorship £126.2 mil., Merchandising £25.4 mil and other revenue , stadium tours, NFL, concerts etc £31.9, making a total of £183.5 millions.

Arsenal accounts for year end 2022 do not explain the make up of commercial revenue but the figure in their accounts is shown as £141.7 millions , I would have thought their merchandise sales would be similar to ours , they would also have other revenue from stadium tours and concerts but it can't compare to our £31.9 mil. Even with their stadium sponsorship from the commercial figures released and sponsorship would be shown in commercial income, it appears to me our sponsorship deals are worth than Arsenal's .

The difference is they are happy to risk large sums in the transfer market and Levy keeps the purse tightly shut.

Seems to me that Spurs have been working a lot harder on sponsorship deals than Arsenal , as those Ramble persons figures are out of date.

He's playing an absolute blinder at the minute.
Everyone makes mistakes. I'm a rare breed, in that I think he has done great things for this club, made some mistakes but not as many as other owners. I just look at where we can go now and think 'great job'. 👍
