Ok this thread may not be popular (and i hope it is brought up at the end of the season for jokes) but i think we will end up 2nd.

It will be devastating to not take the best chance for us to win the league for a long time, and possibly not for a long time to come.

However I just wanted to throw up 2 possible positives.

1) Our players dont end up enjoying things too much and get ahead of themselves. Lets be honest we are not a great team yet, as shown by our Europa loss.

2) Our coaching staff, players and board will be even hungrier next year to go 1 better. Hunger is underrated imho.

P.S. I still hope Leicester choke and we win the league.

The unfunny Arsenal "jokes" of "I want Spurs to finish 2nd as it means we'll finish 1st" will be put to bed.

There are lots of positives to be taken from finishing second. Nigel Spinal has pointed out two of them. I'll point out a third.

Finishing second would constitute a great platform from which to go one better next season.

And a fourth, while I'm at it. Finishing second increases our profile, increases our glamour factor and will be no different than finishing first (as opposed to fourth or fifth) when it comes to attracting new players.

In short, finishing second would be absolutely fantastic for Tottenham as a club.

There's also a bit less chance of our players and staff getting poached. Atletico winning the title put a big target on their heads for example, but now that they're sitting more comfortably in a CL spot and making challenges towards the title they have less teams trying to poach them.

It will show the importance of starting strong and not drawing too many games. I doubt that starting 11 will change (or change much) next season so there shouldn't be any time "wasted" on players adapting to the club or system, also our youngsters will be more experienced and hopefully better. Son and N'Jie could also play a bigger role next season.

The main positive of finishing second is that we will have finished fucking second. I mean... c'mon! Second! That's amazing!

And we'll be rocking WHL against Barcelona in the 1-4 finals of the CL, while Leicester drop out bottom of their group.

Finishing second guarantees a CL group spot.
Technically so does finishing 3rd, but if City were to miraculously win the CL and finish 4th or below, they will go straight into the group stage next season at the expense of whoever finishes 3rd.

I think we'll get better from here no matter where we finish. This is Leicester's one shot. This is our first shot.

We'll have finished 2 places higher than I thought possible, ahead of all of the expected top 4 and we will be in the Champions League without having to win the Europa League. We'll also know that the team who beat us caught a freak wave - not much you can do about that. Still - it's not over yet.

Its a fantastic achievement if we finish second - I don't really care about how or who finishes above us. This is the best league finish in living memory for me.

A massive thing will be that we will, finally, stop talking about 'top 4' finishes. Always grated me that basically our ambition was limited to 4th (as shown in Redknapp's final season when we really slipped from February onwards), now we have raised the bar higher and with this team I think the expectation/pressure will bring more out of them

Not true. The spot is completely seperate these days, so we would simply have four teams go straight to the group stage (City plus the top three), as well as another (whoever comes fourth) in the Playoff round if City come 5th or below. The only way 3rd place doesn't guarentee the group stage is if Man City win the Champions League and Liverpool win the Europa League whilst both finish outside the Top 4, in which case the 4th placed team doesn't qualify and the 3rd placed team goes into the Playoffs.

It will also wipe out any mental weakness and inferiority complexes we have about the so called too clubs. For so long it feels we have been on the coat tails of city, chelsea, scum, united and have mixed it with them at times but to finnish second only to leicester would wipe those thoughts and hooefully see us build and kick on next season

2nd gets us 3 times the amount of tv money from the group stages of the cl as 4th (if they qualify).

1st 40%
2nd 30%
3rd 20%
4th 10%

We will also have more telivised premier league games next season being considered title contenders. We will also get more from sponsors and will be getting bids for our naming rights.

Also we finish above arsenal.
