That is a pretty damning indictment of our league performances this season and from that we really can't expect to be plying our trade in the Champions League for a consecutive year - there's still hope but it's fading very fast.

We'd need a barnstorming finish and there's nothing to suggest that that's going to happen unfortunately.

10 games = 7 points.

14 points would be a mediocre return from that lot but would put us 6 points clear of 4th and 2 behind 3rd

Shocking really.

God knows how we're even 5th right now to be honest.

What is insanely hilarious about this is it is just exactly the same as Spurs sides of yore...for those of us old enough to remember. We have a proud tradition of this sort of thing.

I can remember when newly promoted Swindon went 18 games with out a win. Visited WHL and...you've guessed it...they won. Is it some kinda FCUKed up 'racial' memory, or what:shrug:

Anybody who thinks we still have a chance is in complete denial. Its as good as over, and it will take an incredibile capitualtion from City now.

I actually hope Pool pip us for fifth = which is looking likely anyway now, dont want shitty Europa League.

Please Mr. Pink don't take this personally, but I must second the SP quote. Nothing is over until it's over. Citeh have to get a result at Rovers and that's no guarantee... A draw means we're in the same spot we were in before the game. Citeh lose and we're in better shape than when the weekend started,... overall, just stay within 2 points of Citeh so that we just need to beat them straight up for fourth. Nothing is decided, truly.
COYFS!!!! denial or not, no one with a crystal ball here...

He won't (I hope - I only typed it 'cos he's normally a good sport).
But Simon isright...it will be over until it is mathematically impossible for it to be anything else. Stop assuming Citeh are this wonder-team who are automatically gonna steamroll all remaining oppos - they won't.

And stop being bluddy Drama Queen's.

So there are fans who do want to be involved in European football at all?
The only good thing I can see about being pipped by Liverpool, is that it would bring some fans back down to earth. So many fans got big heads this season, writing off Liverpool and Everton (we could be even pipped by Everton).

We don't have any divine rights to be in the CL, it's not easy to get into the CL year in and year out and if we even don't get into the Europa cup, don't expect top players like Modric and VDV (who some people say we should get rid of ) to stick around.

I wouldn't be so sure. Players stuck it out at, and signed for, Liverpool when they failed to qualify.

Liverpool have far more prestige than we have, they also have a good record of qualifying for the CL, where as we don't even have a good record of qualifying for the Europa cup.

This season will be at least the fifth time we have qualified for Europe in the past 6 years.

As for prestige, that's bollocks. It's old fashioned nonsense. Players care about whether or not there is a realistic chance of competing at the top level and Liverpool have failed to get CL for more than one season.

I beg to differ on this Azrael. Players care about how much money they're going to get. That's their be all and end all these days I'm afraid !

I simply don't agree with that. If that were the case then you'd see top players signing for rubbish clubs if the pay cheque is big enough, but them simply doesn't happen that often, and when it does the player invariably doesn't stick around too long.

Surely if we get 4th we are delaying the inevitable? We were bound to get squeezed out of the top 4 with the spending power of other teams sooner or later. If not this year, then definately next year.

Welcome to obscurity (again)!

That's rubbish. Arsenal aren't mega-huge spenders but they have been a top four mainstay, even before moving to the Emirates.
