I'm not thinking about winning the league unless we get atleast 10 points from out next 5 games including beating Chelsea.

The way I see it the league for us will be in stages:

Stage 1 - 40 points, when we are safe from relegation
Stage 2 - 60 points, possible UEFA qualification.
Stage 3 - 70/75 points possible Champions League place.
Stage 4 - 85+ points Challenge for the title.

We haven't even achieved stage 1 yet, and until we do I wont think of Stage 2 let alone Stage 4. Don't get me wrong, I will enjoy our run but we have a long way to go.

Too many people getting carried away in this thread. It's still early days, we're 20/1 for a reason. Even Chelsea are shorter odds than us ffs. Nice to see Arsenal out to 50/1 though.

Lets see where we are in Jan/Feb.

I've been following this club since 1978 and experienced the current feeling on the very rare occasion. 1983/4 season was good, as was 86/87, but even these season we did not rack up an unbeaten streak in the manner as the current one.

I'm overjoyed, surprised and ecstatic with our performances and long may it continue. I like many are only focused on the next game, so not to get too carried away.

We paid a fee for Ade so they can't recall him.

As for winning the league, I've got a sneaky feeling that if we finish with more points than everyone else then we will win it. Hopefully City will have a bit of a stumble now they've been beaten in Europe.

I also think people are getting carried away, if we are in this position at the end of February after our difficult run of games then I may start to think that we will win the league. Lets all calm down!

If Fergason and now Villas-boas think their teams can win the league, I don't know why we shouldn't think so too. You all know our motto.

What's really key here, is that H and the team think we can win the league. Every game we play, I'm seeing so much confidence in our lads. Yes we can win the league.

Because both those sides have experience at winning championships. We don't. That counts for a lot when things get nervy at the end of the season.

Dortmund did it last season with a younger squad and we can do the same.

You need to be consistent and believe.

Ledley King is key.

Ledley King's record right now:

WWWWWWWWWDWWWW

phenomenal.

Scary, just bloody scary! On the stream I was listening to yesterday, Dean Sturridge said that if not for injuries he would be one of the best in the world! He really likes spurs though.

Even the main commentator said that Ledley just cruises through games.

That record is frightening.

40 points out of 42. That's insane.

Some difference from 2 points out of 24.

Well,

Like most of us I'm on the "it's not really beyond the quality of the current team, however, it's unlikely to happen" kinda side of the argument. I do actually think we have a strong enough team to finish top three and be in the title race for a long time, but I can't just see us beat City's quality and United's experience. Even though we're a better team than Chelsea they'll be tough over the run of the season due to their strong mentality.

Obviously, if we continue our present run we'll win it. However, the only decent team we've played away from home on the amazing run is Newcastle, partly Fulham. Let's see how we'll do against Villa, Everton, Stoke away from home rather than Wolves & Wigan. Should be said though that both Fulham and WBA are good home sides, so shouldn't take too much away from that. The funny thing is: while we were (very) lucky against Fulham we actually really should've won against Newcastle - so it should've been 10 wins in a row!

Let's see how we manage when the going gets a bit tougher. After the first two games we've had a decent run of fixture with plenty of rest between the games. With the FA Cup, Europa League knock-out and tough EPL months of January/February/March that period will be a real test. Up untill that point I can see us in a comfortable 2nd by New Year's.

I wonder how this run compares with other teams great runs in Prem history?

Edit : just googled and wiki says that the scum won 14 games straight in 2002.

But they wouldn't have with a Prem as strong as it is now.

I for one hope City win tomorrow.

Because no matter how much it would help us in the so-called "title race" (hell no), the reaction by the Scousers, especially in a big loss, will be fucking hilarious.

WHY :bang::bang::bang:
Hope Liverpool lose other games  They will anyway. We will finish above Liverpool barring a miracle collapse.

We ARE in a title race - it is that simple.
We might be outsiders, even wide outsiders, but that is not the issue.

Answer two questions, please:
Are United in a title race?
If we finish two points behind Citeh (sic.) at the end of the season, will you be glad that you were so mad keen for Citeh to beat Liverpool?

Hell, folk aren't even excluding Chelsea fromk a title race...so how can we not be in one.

No...no one is getting carried away. If you read the thread you would see that everyone has stressed that we are outsiders by a big margin.
The fact that Chelsea are on lower odds than us can show any number of things - a lot of mugs, who are not very good at reading the signs, for instance, are still backing Chelsea  A lot of eternally pessimistic Spurs fans will not put money on us even though we ARE in a title race. Anything...it does not, however, prove that it is getting carried away to state the simple fact that we are in a title race, no matter how much or how little any given individual believes we have a chance of winning that race.

We paid a fee for Ade so they can't recall him.

Yes, it counts for a lot of things...which is why we all consider ourselves to be outsiders.
But, it also counted exactly the same the first year Fergie won the EPL with his babes - the season Alan Hansen made his utterly unprophetic, and ultimately ridiculous, pronouncement that "you don't win anything with kids" by way of justifying his absolute statement that Man United had absolutely zero chance of winning the EPL :hump:
