If he'd be willing to accept a mutual termination I wouldn't mind us cancelling Hugo's contract with a fancy send off friendly. And that's something I can see.

Perisic & Dier I think we're likely stuck with.

PEH, Gil, Son, GLC, Emerson/Porro, Sessegnon all players we could get decent money for.

Lenglet and Danjuma are players we can't really keep right now considering the squad numbers.

Winks, Ndombele, Rodon & Reguilon I think will either leave on loan or will have contracts ripped up. But I think there's a world where Reguilon stays.

I think Sanchez will leave in some capacity on the hunt for some regular football.

I reckon we'll be left with something like this:

New keeper, Forster
Romero, Dier, Davies, New CB, Tanganga, Udogie, Spence, Porro/Emerson
Sarr, Skipp, Bentancur, Bissouma
Son, Kulu, Richy, Kane, Perisic

I'd take that at this stage providing the keeper and CB are good, but an AM would be nice on top.
Don't think that lineup of CBs is anywhere near good enough. We need 2 at least. ITK seems to suggest we know we need more than one.

The squad's not going to be up to scratch come the end of this summer and that's the reality. Quality over quantity is the most important thing. I'd take Laporte over two average ones anyday.

You have to remember, there's like a 90% chance Kane leaves on a free in 2024, and Son is looking past it. In 2024 we'll have to spend big on forwards so we need to keep some powder dry. The best time to spend is when we're sure we can clear the decks in 2024 with a number of players out of contract.

If you said to me we will trim the squad to something like 23/24 players and we sign a keeper like Raya and a CB like Laporte, then that's progress for me. Perhaps though, if the new manager wants to play a back 3, then I can see an argument for bringing in another right footed CB

I know a lot of fans didn't want the conference league but it does now throw up some new problems.

If you've been frustrated in the past with our "sell before we buy" narrative it's now just increased tenfold.

Before we even think about incomings or promoting youth we will have a first team squad of 34 players when they all return from loan.

There is so much to do and without a head coach and DOF this currently looks like an impossible task without having a fire sale.
Where do you get your numbers from. It is 29 plus one under 21, Pape Sarr.
Moura is leaving. Lenglet and Danjuma loans finish. Cannot count Alfie Whitman as already have 3 keepers.
Harvey White prob get a free as he is nowhere near good enough.
obviously still a few to shift . Will just have to take what we can get.
loans out allowed is down to 7 next season.

City showed this year you don't need a massive squad as much as you need a squad full of players with similar quality.

Conte point blank refused to rotate which didn't work as when they came in they weren't fresh, they were cold.

If we can have a squad of around 20 who all play on a regular basis then it should lessen fatigue and injury whilst keeping everyone on their toes and in form

Very False my friend

We had plenty injuries all season, the only position he was fairly stubborn with was RWB otherwise most non-rotations happened because of injured personal.

The rest of your post is spot on though.

It’s also hard to attract players without any Europe but next year we have to go full strength in all cups no excuses we could potentially walk the league cup, we should also take Semi’s of the FA Cup or nothing.
Cannot see how the Conference Plate will attract anyone. Villa seem ecstatic about it. Fancy celebrating 7th.
Emery might find it difficult to try and win the conference while wallowing in mid table like he would in Spain. Different ball game over here. Villa will expect to challenge top six at least.

I don't want to get into a debate about the past as it's pointless but I felt he had a strongest eleven and beyond that he would only really play people when he absolutely had to.

I'd like everyone to not know our strongest team , if that makes sense.

Given what has unfolded in the last couple of months, for me Spurs not having European club football next season has not been that much of a concern, what with more basic issues to be dealt with. All Spurs players will have several competitions to deal with, while for some players there'll be the likelihood of competing in internationals. Nobody's name is going to be forgotten, especially if the situation is used to focus, train more, play better and get chance for rest. Far more significant, I think, is who get appointed as director of football and the head coach, after which we'll see what's what for next season.

He definitely had his favourite 11 but most of the rotation options we had through certain periods left him with no choice. He was stubborn on a lot of things, but when it comes to players his hands were tied until January.

Either way, we need competition across the squad and not just a strongest 11 that falls flat on it's face with a couple injuries here and there in key positions.

Well we don't have a head coach or DOF, and who knows how long that will take. Should we really be bringing in a GK, a key CB and Madison before the two head men anyway? Doing shit like this is why we are in this squad bloated mess in the first place.
I didn’t say that. I said waiting to sell before buying them.

We got thrown out the conference league at the end of the group stage last time and didn’t play one of the games…we qualified for CL next year. I doubt ecl had much impact on the revenue that season and it seemingly had zero effect on our progress the following season too

No idea how accurate but it seems you get around £15m prize money for winning the competition. That plus tickets etc makes it not a particularly big money earner.

Add in all your expenses - and it’s probably break even, if not loss making.

Hopefully we can slim down the squad, get some unwanted wages off the books - and go again.

Our matchday brings a good chunk of money. Was posted here, they had been discontent by our quitting from the cups as the stadium generates a lot from the matchday.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

Not massively surprising given the last few seasons that villa have had - it represents progress.

Yep I agree and thats why I just couldnt stand us being in the ECL - was an imposition more than an opportunity in my view.

On a related point, with what you said you can also say the same about trying to win the league. Trying to be successful costs a lot of money - Levy I'm sure is going, why should I go out and spend hundreds of millions on trying to win something we have a low probability of winning? particularly against a juggernaut in Man City? and now Newcastle....

You need hundreds of millions to win the title, and what will you get in return? a trophy? big deal. Too expensive.

Top four is that happy medium between being attainable without having to spend excessively and still considered success in this day and age - all whilst building our brand and stadium profile.

All good for them, they have fucking great manager now.
They do but will the prima donna players at Chelsea accept him?

If he can stamp himself on that Chelsea squad like he did at Spurs then they will progress but it took Kane and Mason to lead the revolt against the entitled lazy elite at Spurs. Will that happen at Chelsea - and will Boehly and the fans have the patience?

They did not at PSG.
Anyway, sad for no European football but hey, at least we will not get let down in Europe this new season.

Tanganga, Ndombele, Dier, Sessengnon, Winks, Lloris and Perisic should all just be released instantly. Sanchez aswell without any interest.
You do realise you would have to pay their contracts up and all of that would be about 50m, and I'm sure you could get minimum 5m for all of them except the last two

Indeed. We don't have Sunderland or some European sides with cash to take these players off our hands. It's much more difficult than some may think to get rid of our squad players.
