Denied Spurs 3 blatant penalties (and even booked Bale for diving when he was clearly pushed to ground!) and one could even argue for a 4th case. And yet not even ONE penalty!
If this had happened in a few other countries around the world the words "paid off" would be on many lips. Yes, he sent off a Sunderland player - but that was after Arsenal had scored their vital goal (and after that the Toons lost interest it seemed).
Shockingly bad ref for such an important game.
PS! Spurs went the whole season without a single penalty - while Arsenal got game deciding 2-3 "cheating" penalties.

Its what he has done to Bale's thinking that concerns me most.

It could be a factor in Bale giving two fingers to English football.

Is it really? Look at all the corrupt decisions we've had against us this season. And all the decisions those woolwich wankers got for them

It's football mate. You learn to get on with it. CL, no champions league...no one ever really wins, it all status again in 89 days. Don't need to talk about people dying horrible deaths over it.

I found it amazing he didn't give two penalties for us, the handball and the bale challenge. I find it disappointing that Bale is being booked when others are blatantly diving (including from our own team) and don't get booked. It is very unprofessional and lazy from the referees.

Officiating in the English game has been on a serious decline for years, too much attention is given to them. For me, they should have a pool of referees who manage all four leagues, random assignments each week, no more of this "elitist" group of referees who get the big games.

Unless they already do that? But I'm pretty sure each league has a set of officials with a few changes as and when its needed?

Over 38 games stretching back to August 2012, we haven't been fouled in the box on one single occasion. Incredible!!

I don't really mind him not giving a penalty for the first incidence because HE WAS 40 YARDS AWAY and probably didn't see what happened. Which tells us one thing; There is no fucking way he could be sure Bale was diving. I really think the club needs to look at ways to deal with this (namely going out in media) because this is the same referee that was invited to have a chat with Bale and AVB regarding Bales (wrongful) bookings for diving earlier in the season. Obviously nothing has changed.

Couldn't agree more mate.

Surely he can only give a card if he is 100% sure it's a cardable offence. Which means he must have seen it properly. And if he had seen it properly he would have seen it as a foul. So it's fairly empirical proof that he has let Bale's growing reputation as a diver influence his decision, which is incredibly unprofessional.

And I agree that AVB could probably help his cause by mentioning it in the media. But it's quite a delicate line to tread and could easily backfire.

Seeing as he gave Bale a lecture early on in the season on how to shake off the reputation....

Maybe someone should give him a lecture on how not to be a ****?

The problem is if he didn't give a pen as he should have done he had to give the card.

I agree that the club should go in the media about it or get Mabbs or similar to do it.

He didn't have to give a card if, for instance, he thought it was a fair ground duel and Bale lost out. There was absolutely no need or reason for him to book Bale since Marriner couldn't possibly have seen what happened.
