What happened if you don't mind me asking? I missed most of the match unfortunately.
Line out deep in Scotland territory was taken quickly by Scotland. Throw was long and picked up by Ireland who went over for a try. But it was ruled out because a different ball was used than the one which went out of play.

I don't like that rule tbh. Reckon the line out should be reversed because Scotland effectively got away with a major mistake and it wasn't Ireland's fault at all.

If it was early on, a few minutes in.
Scotland had line out out deep near the try line.
As the ball went out a "new" ball was thrown in by Scotland and Ireland won it and scored a try in the move.
Ref spotted that it wasnt the "proper" ball and cancelled the try giving Scotland a new line out with the "other" ball.

It didn't change anything in the long run but imagine had that been the last play of a very tight game.

The thing that struck me was the Irish lads just took the decision and that was that. No surrounding the rf and creting mayhem unlike football.
I really thought Scotland would come back hard in the seond half though

Quality performance in that second half especially with all the injuries, didn't give the Scots a sniff. How the hell was Hogg not yellow carded in the first half? Hope Ringrose is ok, looked a really bad one.

Roll on next week.

I don't think it's a bad rule. Can't have any hints of home favoritism when it comes to making (or not making) the right ball available for lineouts.

Apparently he gave the thumb up when leaving the pitch on the stretcher

More often than not the team throwing in will win the line out and it wouldn't be an issue. However this time they didn't and the way it played out felt like Scotland got out of jail.

Anyway, it's history and probably not likely to happen too many times in the future either.

Bloody hell. Didn't even realize that was a rule. Seems a bit mad. I get why using the same ball is a thing in cricket but it seems totally irrelevant in rugby IMO

Very harsh red IMO. As he said he just braced for the inevitable impact, which was unavoidable at that stage. His arm was at his side, so he didn't have his elbow outstretched or anything. It was just an unfortunate collision that meant there was head contact with his elbow.

He was to high and has led with elbow could have easily avoided the hit. The ref had already blown for England

I don't get the argument that he was too high though because he wasn't trying to make a tackle. The Irish player essentially fell into him after stumbling to get the ball.

He also didn't "lead with the elbow", he turned sideways. His elbow and arm in general were against his side - he didn't have an elbow outstretched at all. What are you suggesting he should've done? Just stay facing square on so he got a head to the stomach or something? I don't really see what choice he had.

It was obviously a nasty collision but it seems like just pure bad luck that it was head-on-elbow so a yellow would've been more justified IMO.
