Like I said guys (incase any of the slating is aimed towards me) I'm a huge fan of Soldado and think he's been good so far.

I just made this thread to gauge the general opinion of him from SC - Due to hearing mutters of discontent from other sections of Spurs fans etc.

Saw this thread and was scared to enter it.

Soldado is contributing, big time. His movement is exceptional and he's been bitterly unlucky to not have a couple of goals to his name in open play in the League thus far.

The goals will come, but as a team its all bubbling a long very nicely. Far too premature, and this is the kind of nonsense I hope doesn't transmit to the player.

I'm all for debate but if the alternative is Defoe then there is simply no discussion - period!

Soldado, as others have mentioned, is contributing through his movement and his link up play helped us score yesterday.

You people....

I think only idiots question new signings after about 6 games in which they have been integral to the team performance, have directly been involved in two team goals, scored two penalties, scored a couple from open play against weaker opposition just like JD has and been seriously unlucky not to score from open play in the PL thanks to WC keeping. Questions this early aren't a form of finding solutions they are the precursor to a player getting unnecessary stick when he has shown for a number of years that he is one of Europe's best strikers.

There is a balance of jumping the gun and withholding the natural desire to question a performance when it has been in the eyes of the beholder, below par.

He needs to be given more than 6 league games to show what he can do (and 6 games in which, by the way, he's set up two goals in our last three games and scored two in his first two).

He's shown glimpses so far, and I think he's likely to start delivering goals soon.

I had a feeling he wasn't the right kind of striker we needed when we were linked and I still think that. For 26m and aged 28 I expect him to be better, a lot better. he doesn't have enough in the attributes column for me (in terms of power, holding the ball up and being dynamic). Doesn't look dangerous at all at the moment and if he was playing for anyone else we'd be saying he's flopping badly.

Don't get me wrong, he looks a good player, but certainly not a 26m upgrade striker that we needed. I hope that changes, but I just think he's too old fashioned.

I wonder what people watch sometimes. Does anyone think Defoe would have laid the ball off for Sigurdsson to score against Chelsea ? Or would he have tried to control it and turn and have his shot blocked easily ? Stop watching the ball and watch Soldado's movement. The space he creates for our other players is superb and he's always in the right place. He could have scored 3/4 goals in his last couple of games when he's hit the post, forced good saves etc. It'll come. 100% a better option than Defoe who is basically a one trick pony, hence good sides find him easy to defend against as his record shows.

We wouldn't be having this debate if he'd have scored a couple more goals, and that's why I'm not worried.

The goals will come but the important thing now is that he does the rest of the job up front, working the channels, bringing others into play, making runs in behind. He is doing that already in spades.

Regarding goals. Remind any Gooners who slate him for only scoring 2 in 6 that it took Bergkamp a good few months to score his first Premier League goal.

This is all going to start clicking very soon and one of our opponents will be on the end of an absolute spanking.

I dont get it...
We are second in the league. Its not about what individuals have in their stats column here anymore, we have a system setup to get the team winning, it works.

If Soldado was crap and not contributing to what AVB wants from his team, then AVB wouldn't play him.

If he had played in the cup games and scored 4-6 more goals (which I am sure he would have had) as a result no one would even be questioning him so early into his career

He assisted the goal yesterday

Dude, that's one touch...and it wasn't a perfect one. Sigs had to ride a tackle to get his shot in.

I'm not against him just hope he can add more than he is when not contributing goals.

Against Chelsea he should have been able to occupy their defence when we were under the cosh. That's what top strikers are all about.

Hate the bloke but Suarez has just levelled Soldados goals tally this season (2 penalties) in 90 mins in a poor side.

That is a quality world class striker. Soldado for what I have seen so far isn't on that level. No where near.

And Suarez has played in this league for 2-3 seasons...

liverpool do seem to create more clear cut chances than us. there's definitely double standards between defoe and soldado amongst spurs fans though.

Not everyone is "moaning", I think Soldado is class, but to me theres no point having squad depth if you then dont play players on merit. Defoe has scored shitloads of goals and now deserves a start in the league.

He has not. He averages one goal every three appearances in the EPL, which is certainly respectable, but hardly makes him a Lineker or an Allen, still less a Greaves. If he did score shitloads, we wouldn't have had to sign Soldado.

Gimme strength.

Liverpool a poor side? Are you serious? They were also playing Sunderland, who are a shambles in freefall.

As someone else has pointed out, this is his third season in England. In his first he scored 11, and needed over 100 shots to do it.
