Fucking hell is all I can say give the man some time, he will come good. He's older and will take him longer to settle in than the younger guys. He is also surrounded by other new players all finding their feet, it's comman sence really. Give him 10 game In settled squad and he will get the goals I have no doubt.

What irks me most about this thread is that people are giving all sorts of excuses for him but dismissing defoe as a poorer player to the extent of saying that defoe wouldve missed the 2 penalties!! WTF people!!! Grow up will you!

Having Lamela and Chadli in the team instead of Sigurdsson and Townsend would help Soldado no end in my opinion. Both tend to be more creative and unselfish, where as Sigurdsson and Townsend are looking to shot 9 times out of 10.

Only idiots would claim this. He is clearly an excellent player who has added a lot to our team. Two goals for Siggy have come from his great control and he would have had 4 last week if it wasn't for an excellent Marshal.

There shouldn't be any question marks. The guy is f**king class end of.

I think only an idiot would never ask any questions. Questions are a form of finding solutions if needed, and should be employed as and when. I'm not having a go at you if that is how this will come across.

Just to reiterate I myself isn't worrying too much
What do you guys think?

I think you should be worrying about your grammar ;)
On Soldido though, I think he will do great against the smaller teams and pick up goals. I think he will need to up his game for the big boys - as was out of the game for this one, and I can't remember but perhaps against Arsenal too. Defoe came on and had more shots than Soldado did the whole match I think.
We will see if his age and maturity will pay off quick dividends, otherwise I would argue we could have brought in someone younger to develop potential that we could sell if needed to get money back.
Negredo has already scored a couple from open play and has looked pretty decent. Not worried yet like you Enfield. I'm not sure his mentality but it doesn't strike me that his confidence will be flustered.

A motivated Adebayor is one of the most complete strikers in the Prem. unfortunately he is seldom motivated other than by a potential new contract.

Haven't read whole thread but anyone that can't see soldado is our best striker (for the team) and probably best since berbatov are not watching the games closely.

He is class and that assist to siggy proved it.

Keep the faith, fellow spurs fans. He will definitely repay it.

Ok, personally i think this thread is premature in the extreme.
Soldado wasnt great today, shit happens. His price is also irrelevant, we paid a release clause to ensure we got a striker in.
For the Benteke lovers, guess what, we bid for him, we were turned down and Benteke signed a new contract with Villa, so he cleaaaarly wanted to come to us too. Sheesh.

Lennon, Lamela.. Can anyone seriously advocate dropping Townsend right now?! Lennon has been out injured for ages and Lamela is adjusting, cant speak the language and is likely to bossed off it by the likes of chelsea to begin with. So Soldado and Townsend ahould be taught to play nice together and get on with it.

As for cardiff, yes Soldado was running to get the ball as he could not be sure someone would get there if he didnt, defender runs with him and then soldado sees that Lamela is going to get there first and doesnt interfere.

Did he plan it in his head knowing that Paulinho would be able to run in? No. But he instinctively did the right thing and that in turn worked out for the team.

We need to be sure we dont succumb to double standards though. Last season we defended Adebayour to a degree whilst he was helping the team, but we did be kan his goal scoring record. So we need to do the same with Soldado... But much much later on.

I would be inclined to start Soldado in the Europa cup though and Defoe in the next league game, as Defoe has probably earned that chance.

He's been unlucky really bar today where he was average and couldn't get in the game, although he did get an assist so technically he still made a telling contribution which is fine. But yeah so far this season he's had been unkucky, the first three games we didn't play with a natural no10, Norwich he hit the post and had a shot cleared off the line, Cardiff he faced a keeper having the game off his life.

He will score goals, our next three league games are against West Ham, Villa and Hull, if he hasn't hit the back of the back of the bet by then, then it's small cause for concern.

Gutted there is even a thread on this subject. Get a grip people and give him time.

He is cool and calm on the ball with a shit load of confidence, plus he is a winner with a winners mentality.

Stop getting your nickers in a twist and moan about something else....

Not everyone is "moaning", I think Soldado is class, but to me theres no point having squad depth if you then dont play players on merit. Defoe has scored shitloads of goals and now deserves a start in the league.

To answer the question, yes, we'd be mocking Liverpool mercilessly, and anyone who says otherwise is surely not serious

But I still think he'll come good. Clearly a very talented player who, by rights, should have had an open play goal by now, he's had some incredible bad luck

He's known as being streaky. Once one goes in he'll get a few

I keep on reading about this particular moment from people who are in defence of soldado. This is soldado-tinted glasses at its best. He was merely running to get the ball! Nothing at all to do with him opening up space for paulinho.

And today he was really really poor. Heavy passing and poor holding. The one moment he tried to dribble his way past, he looked awkward and somehow we knew he was going to lose the ball.

I hope he improves, and fast. He surwly does not look like an expensive player.

If defoe had played like this for the last 6 games, no one in their right mind would say that he is a clever player who needs clever players to help him out.

Defoe has played like this and worse for much of the past nine years.

We're not even a quarter of the way through the season. Berbatov took well over half a season really to get going.

What next? 'Lamela, The Invisible Man'?

Not sure he's the right type of striker to play upfront on his own. Certainly needs to contribute more if he's not scoring goals.

This isn't a knee jerk thread. This is someone with the bollox to make a thread about something most Spurs' fans are secretly thinking as well, but too afraid to admit.

No-one wants to take the gloss of our Bale re-investment / solid start to the season.

He doesn't currently warrant a 26m price tag. I do of course hope that changes, but I would (and I think most spurs fans) would be lying if they said they'd been impressed with him so far. He's been distinctly average i'd say, hasn't done anything that has at all made me think "wow, that's why we dished out 26m on you!!"..

Things will get better for him though - here's hoping anyway!
He's no torres or drogba or suarez thats for sure.

He doesn't seem to have a great appetite to get involved in anything physical just yet, even when he does close down he stops short of an actual tackle.
Thus far the jury is out for me.

He wasn't great yesterday, but then for 45 minutes no-one was. He is a pure No.9, not an uber striker, hold up, fulcrum type. As such I've been impressed with his movement and he's been bloody unlucky not to have bagged at least two or three more goals, which but for keeper's, post and desperate defensive blocks he would have.

Try to remember we are playing with inverted wide forwards, not two wingers tasked with supplying Soldado, so he's not being fed an endless supply of chances, he's part of the chance making machine.

So far he is our joint top goal/assist combined player. Sigurdsson and Townsend don't have an assist to their name between them.

I like Adebayor, as an uber striker he's one of the best when on song, but I think Soldado is a good fit for how we are playing. I've seen enough to know he'll get goals, and it's about the team winning, not his goal tally.

Patience fella's, patience. It took the great Gary Lineker 6 games to even get on the scoresheet in his first season if I remember correctly, and he ended up our leading scorer. And arguably, there's more to Soldado's game with regards to his all round contribution to the team.

I think only idiots question new signings after about 6 games in which they have been integral to the team performance, have directly been involved in two team goals, scored two penalties, scored a couple from open play against weaker opposition just like JD has and been seriously unlucky not to score from open play in the PL thanks to WC keeping. Questions this early aren't a form of finding solutions they are the precursor to a player getting unnecessary stick when he has shown for a number of years that he is one of Europe's best strikers.
