Great to see CCV play well yesterday. It's no secret in this thread I've always been a huge fan so yesterday was brilliant!

Going to give the pod a listen to today :)

Spotted Brandon Austin on the first team bench yesterday. Reward for a good week in training? First team training and bench spot...

Where would you send Harrison?

Being from Yorkshire I have been going to watch Bradford City with my Grandad since I was about 4/5 (2001/02)...

Went to watch them Saturday against Chesterfield, where they won 2-0, but should have easily been 4/5/6...

They are a team that create loads of chances, and have a really strong midfield that dominate nearly every game, but their strikers are just not clinical enough, and don't take chances that fall to them...

They are 4th in League 1 and are pushing for auto promotion/playoffs, and everyone says they need a top, clinical striker to do this...links with Ched Evans, but I think Shayon Harrison would be perfect for them, would get a large amount of service, and the exact sort of confidence boosts that he would be needing to kick on!

Get him in a side pushing for the league to get that winning mentality in his veins, no use sending him into a relegation scrap imo. Would be great to see what he can do there!!

The Podcast was indeed very enjoyable. Got me thinking about all the games I've seen. I think my first U18s game was the play-off semi second leg against Everton at the end of the 03/04 season. We lost on penalties. At the time Pleat had just seen out the season (after Hoddle's sacking) and we were waiting with bated breath to find out who the new manager was going to be. My first Reserve game was the pre-season before against the Orient. Lee Barnard and Gary Doherty up front. Ended 0-0.

also listened to the pod, very enjoyable. Going to youth matches, is it a matter of just turning up at the training ground? Wouldn't mind going to a game one day

i noticed Skipp playing there as well. I would have thought he was way above this level after looking so comfortable at u18 level and in the UEFA youth league

You sure? I didn't recognise him, and I don't think he'd qualify. According to the Fupa website they were the juniors C which would mean you have to be born 02/03, which I think would normally be u14s. I know Madeuke is born in 2002 but I assumed he was an u15. He must be born in September or later in '02.

You must be feeling extra proud, Gone from watching him in Dusseldorf to the hallowed turf of the lane.

I saw him too. Assumed it was the thing where they give a young player a spot. Still unsure what they do. Roles was on the bench against Chelsea

Does sound like an ideal place. Though he is still relatively slight hopefully his positioning and movement would be able to see him through any lower league matches.

Also appreciate the comments on the pod, glad it turned out well

Dark times, you're damn right. That U18 team (the Everton game) was the first decent crop we'd had in absolutely donkeys years. The likes of Tommy Forecast, Phil Ifil, Danny Stevens, Andy Barcham, Jamie O'Hara, Stuart Lewis, Simon Dawkins, Jacques Maghoma, Charlie Lee, Charlie Daniels and the ignominious Scott Thyer. All bar the last have enjoyed professional careers. Before that we were strictly supplying the Ryman Premier. Another alumnus of that crop was Mark Wright, of TOWIE fame. He scored our goal to take it to extra time and captained the side.

My first reserve game was god awful. Nicky Eyre in goal, back three of Chris Perry, Ronnie Henry & Paul O'Donoghue, wing backs of Marcel McKie and Lee Barnett, midfield of Johnnie Jackson and Ben Bowditch and front three of Mark Yeates, Lee Barnard (Pre-Clive Allen) and the Ginger Pele himself Gary Doherty. Dreadful. Us and Orient could have been there for a month and not scored.

My first youth game was when we played arsenal in the fa youth cup at the Lane must have been 8 or 9 years ago. We had lots of hyped up youngsters at the time but we got outplayed and lost the match, think Townsend was our best player on the night playing at left wing. Was completely underwhelmed by the likes of Parett and Bostock who I thought would be the standouts. Wilshere was the best player on the pitch that day.

I'm sure a few in here went to that match as there was a very good attendance.

I saw that team back in the day too! I went to school with Ronnie Henry (and actually played in the same team as him as an 8 year old!).

Where would you send Harrison?
I would send him to the championship, he isn't going to be a starter but would be a good option off the bench. Imo he is just settling at U23's which imo everyone is doing after spending too long there like KWP. He is better than that but getting to the point where he is going through the motions.

I think a club like derby would be perfect but that ship has sailed today with Nugent signing:mad:. I have watched a lot of Championship this season and I think this would be better than league 1.

I dont like to send players to league one unless they are defenders or are very physically strong. I dont think the leagues are a natural progression as people make out. The days of going through the leagues for youth players is much harder and doesnt happen as much.

Part of the reason for this is that the teams nowadays play drastically different style of football. In the championship, the amount I have seen young U21's make a good transition from youth footy than arguably players who have done well at U21's for some time and go to League 1 and have a culture shock
