As has also been said before, you never know if all his random positional changes ARE part of his development. Improve his overall on pitch intelligence. I was certainly stunned how good he was today, considering how people generally talk about him on here.
Yep. For all we know it might have been done in an effort to improve his touch and composure when under pressure. Skills that are absolutely essential for Pochettino CB's.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has backed Cameron Carter-Vickers, Anton Walkes and Dominic Ball to battle for first team squad places this season and save him from going into the transfer market for new defenders.

The trio have impressed Pochettino, who has always shown a penchant for giving young players their chance rather than signing new players, enough for him to reveal in the press conference after the Atletico match that he would not be bringing in another defender this summer.
"No change. I think that today we can see that Cameron Carter-Vickers and Anton Walkes it was another game, and with Dominic Ball, we have really talented players and I trust in them," he said. "We don't need to go into the market to sign a centre-back."

Its reasonably common for young CB's to play as CM's for a while to improve their understanding of the wider CB role - Ledley King played there for a season for example. But I've never come across a CB playing as an AM - except as an emergency striker/everyone up to try to nick a goal.

I know Walkes gets a lot of slack on here but today he showed what long term he could become. A Wes Brown/John O'Shea utility defensive player with good technique and physical skills. let him focus on becoming a defender and we could have something here.
I actually thought he was better than CCV last night .

I've only read bad things about Walkes in here but after seeing him play in the flesh with the exception of his small error for the goal I though he defended really well and was calm and composed on the ball.

Winks and Onomah are just class acts though. I hope we see a lot more of both of them this season.

Haha on a side note, there was some really drunk guy near where I was sitting and he clearly had absolutely no idea who KWP was but he would not stop heckling him the whole time he was on the pitch. Just kept calling him by shirt number over and over again. Obviously he couldn't hear him, but fuck it was annoying for the fellow spectators.

Not all bad (feb 2015):

I like Walkes. He reminds me a bit of Michael Mancienne the kid who came through Chelsea's academy a few years back who also ended up being put into CB position I think. He does make mistakes, but they seem to born out of over confidence almost, as he seems very comfortable on the ball. Shame, because he has many good qualities.

I think he could've done better for their goal, but apart from that, he definitely looked at least as comfortable as CCV.
19 years old, versatile, composed on the ball. Sounds like a Poch player, do we think a good loan would benefit him ? Or keep him around the first team and get him pushing for a spot.

All the youngsters were good today, obviously we didn't see the best of Onomah or Miller as both were in roles that didn't suit but special mention goes to Walkes who looked untypically convincing. The biggest downer today was Chadli & Son who were awful, two senior players who have got to up their game by a hell of a lot if they're not going to find themselves sent packing.

I can kind of understand son as he might be holding back not wanting to get injured ahead of the Olympics but Chadli seems to have lost all umpf. Unless he's fabulous in training, Poch can't of missed this. I wouldn't be surprised now to see him gone once we see nkoudou in (even with n'jie' departure).

Poch's comments here is where he excels as a manager. You can see why players would want to play for him.

Indeed, he leaves the door open and doesn't block a young player's route, if they impress. I am glad he is not filling up 4th choice slots for specialist positions with jobbers or experienced pros who will only stunt the likes of CCV's development.

It's a major reason why I wouldn't mind seeing two or more of Chadli, Carrol, Mason or Bentaleb going. That said I still think Oduwa could do a job if only he believed in himself.

Try as I might I can't see Anton having enough ability to be a first team player at Tottenham. He is a good athlete probably the pick of his age group in that sense and he gets around the pitch well but generally he lacks overall ability. I think much like Ball they both have mistakes in them and would be found out at senior level

Having said that arguably last season where he struggled to get pro terms he made the most impact in the U21s and largely did everything that was asked for him and that endears players to the managment

CCV was the defender who impressed me the most in the Oz matches.

He's a proper, modern, CB who stays on his feet. He rarely dived in, apart from the first goal we conceded against Juve after Ball's mistake had left us exposed.

I saw at least half a dozen times in the two matches when he had a top striker running at him one on one, and he stayed on his feet and either forced his opponent wide or blocked an attempted shot or cross. I love a sliding last ditch tackle as much as the next man, but CCV's defensive work was effective in an unflashy way.

He also came out with the ball once very impressively, and got some barbed praise from that spammer plonker Gale.

Absolutely. John Terry is the king of the last ditch tackle, but you should never need to make them if you've done your job properly as a CB.

2 wins in both matches against 4 of the competing sides, a win and a draw (won on post match penalties) against the 5th competing side and 2 draws against the 6th side - so no losses in any of the 12 matches played, accumulating 31 points, way more than anyone else. Host Liverpool coming 4th with 16 points after Ipswich (2nd with 19 points) and ManU (3rd with 17 points)

Very good results - the squad would have almost certainly been almost all the Academy Year 2 (except those promoted to u21 side) plus the new Academy Year 1 side, so very pleasing as a pre-season start.

Hey guys although I do sometimes post in here haven't been in a while.

Have came across to ask for some more information on Will Miller and in general why are the hopes for the kid?

I was shocked by him thought he was a youth player that would be leaving us soon but came away amazed with his feet, passing ability, composure, pace, decision making and all that was while he was played out of position!

Winks also I believe has to be the next player to make it through at Spurs for me he's above Mason and Carroll as have now he reminds me of a young Scott Parker with more ability on the ball what a prospect!

what are the clubs general feeling towards him also?

Also Carter Vickers, really impressed me although his height may be a concern as a centre half. Great decision making and he looks super quick!.

What would be the order of the kids inside the club to make it through if we were to number them as prospects coming through?

For me at the moment it would have to be

1. Harry Winks
2. Carter Vickers
3. Edwards
4. Kyle Walker Peters

A shame really that Harrison didn't get any more minutes I was also a little let down by Dom Ball who I thought when I watched him last season was excellent for Rangers
