Fair enough, but look back a couple pages and people want Ogilvie playing in our first team.

Again, a lot of people saw Ogilvie in the academy and thought he was one of our best players easily. Since has had injuries and everyone accepts his time has gone.

One discussion last week was, who might get a chance in last 2 dead rubbers, as main 4 aren't available and Harrison and Amos weren't registered. I and maybe one other suggested this could be his last opportunity to get a chance as he has performed arguably best on loans and has a decent amount of league experience (seemingly a prerequisite for most posters to consider giving youth a chance). Also one of our LBs is injured.

You've translated that to everyone rates him and wants him to play, to reinforce this false notion that anyone who watches youth football can't think objectively and is deluded about the ability of their own players and wants to force them in to the detriment of the team

utd start pereira, fosu-mensah, mitchell, tuanzebe, mctominay and harrop ...... beat palace 2-0.

i just wish that fans would have more faith in youth players rather than wetting their pants as if we're throwing in some chumps off the street.

I'm sure, the next excuse will now be it was a dead rubber. And so on and so on until every possible excuse is used to avoid giving significant minutes to youth players for all clubs. It's like how people shift the goal posts of what's world class depending on what achievement Kane reaches.

Funnily enough Mourinho, traditionally known not to give youngsters a chance only gave them a chance so his actual players can focus on EL final. He almost threw it away and they won. Sadly I still don't expect them to really be used next tear as they send another 200m on whoever.

They're situation is ridiculous. Buy Martial for 50m or whatever yet Rashford has proven more successful, again only receiving his chance after an injury crisis.

Sell Pogba as they'd rather play Fabio in CM then buy back for 86m. Sell Keane and then try and buy him back.

How about just try them out in the first place. English football is so depressing at giving their own a chance.

If the class of 92 were to come through now they would not get a chance and in everyone's head it'd be just. Haven't proven themselves bla bla bla. Why were West Ham able to bring through Carrick, Lampard, Defoe, Cole and Ferdinand at a time when English academies were worse than they are now. Bar Cole, of still argue he is, they're all PL legends.

When English clubs were dominating European football the core of the clubs were made up of academy players or players who had come through other PL clubs, but now the pathways are blocked and everyone falls over themselves to explain why they can't get s chance or undermine those who do

Why, can someone explain, is there more investment in the academies, which is bearing fruit by us now winning international tournaments or being raved about by other coaches compared to being mocked, yet less players coming through. Fans all claim they want young players to come through but also love putting these obstacles in their way. How can players be getting better yet the trust and chances reducing.

David Gold's recent tweets are so sad. Chairman of a club and making ridiculous comments.
Take a look at David Gold (@davidgold): https://twitter.com/davidgold?s=09

And tbf to the fans Luke fans of most PL clubs they slate him but again when posh comes to shove if the manager doesn't choose to play a youth player and gives a soundbite the fans will eat it up as really they don't want to take the risk either.

Our current Eng u20s one the Euros at u17s. Why has that groups development all stagnated to the point they are getting outclassed by another country. None, and I include Onomah, have developed as hoped yet the blame will no doubt lay at the feet of all the young players as not having proven they ate good enough to oust the 1st teasers. How can people believe that not one of that group has the talent or determination to have deserved first team football, why does no-one look at the managers.

Does everyone honestly believe the blame lies at the players feet or is it a managerial /board level problem?

To be fair that great, young West Ham side took them down.

For what its worth, though, I agree with you. We do have massive problems in this country with youth development. Too many clubs are still producing one dimensional donkeys with no brain, and those that are developing tactically and technically gifted youngsters are giving them no path to the first team.

The landscape was very different in when the class of 92 came in, it was much harder to get work permits for players and there was a limit to 3 foreign players in a first 11 until 1996 (i think) and bear in mind, Scottish, Welsh and Irish players counted as a foreign player. Also, teams didn't have anywhere near as much money either.

To answer the part in bold, IMO, the short answer is money. Long answer, due to the massive amount of money now involved in the game, the pressure on managers is immense and just a short period of a relative unsuccessful period and the managers are fired, so the long term thinking behind introducing players and transfers is forgone for short term gains. Also, due to fear, managers stock pile 2 experienced players in each position, meaning there is no space for youngsters coming through and whilst you or I can show examples of players coming through and being as good if not better than expensive purchases, that fear will cloud the judgement (of fans as well as managers) and they won't be able to look past the Bostocks of this world.

The thing that I find tough to reconcile is:
1. Winks ---- trained with first team, proved himself and clear Poch trusts and loves the lad
2. Onomah ----- has had a lot of time training with the first team but doesn't seem to have shown Poch that x factor.

The boss clearly rates training ---- surely Onomah etc need to show that bit more during the week

When he first joined us he said that players need to realise that they are paid to train. If they don't do that properly they wont get to play.

Who would have thought he'd look capable in the PL. I was told he wasn't even good enough for the Czezh League. Granted it was only 15 mins but he looked very capable. Will people now stop saying, player whoever couldn't even do so and so in whatever league, he clearly is nowhere good enough for the PL.

I wonder what sort of loan he could get after that little outing.... defied a lot of pre conceived opinions IMO

No Edwards in the squad for the Hong Kong freindly, is he still injured? No Harrison either and strangely no Shashoua.

Miller, Amos, Lesniak and Sterling going though.

presume edwards is still injured but going forward i don't think we'll see him involved until he signs a new deal, really hope it doesn't drag on and we end up in a similar situation to what arsenal are in with willock.

edit - @thfcacademy says he doesn't think he's injured ...
