hope he's playing cm.

the way villa have posted the line up would suggest that's the case so here's hoping.

Starting to think this loan could be perfect for him, if he can make 20-30 performances like that he'll be more than ready to become a full part of our first team

20 performances like that by Christmas and then Josh comes back to the mighty Spurs for the second half of the season.

Missed match but picked this up from a Villa forum (piss awful conditions btw):
'Onomah has good presence and is composed on the ball plus physical when he needs to be doing the job Bacuna could never do.'

yep, alongside hourihane in a 4411 type formation.
Interesting, I didn't think they would play them both in CM together. Who had the most defensive responsibility in the game? Did Hourihane also play well or was Josh clearly the better performer of the 2?

onomah probably slightly deeper but he also got forward more as well. hourihane did ok, some decent set-pieces but nothing outstanding, just steady. josh was clearly the better of the two though and i've seen a few comments from villa fans saying he did more tonight than hourihane has since joining.

Just had a look on a Villa a forum and here are some quotes from there. The bold is a bit concerning though

"Onomah showed real composure for a young lad of 19. He needs to be getting some league action"

"Hourihane and Onomah showed flashes. Onomah is very active which is nice to see. Definitely a Bruce type midfielder. Hourihane shouldn't be played so deep, but he did decently in that role."

"Onomah kooks good. Adomah decent. O hare look promising."

"Onomah has just locked in a starting role for the rest of the season"

"Hourihane and Onomah stayed in second gear all game"

"O'Hare was good, Steer too, RHM when he came on was good, Onomah needs some others on his wavelength in order to get the best out of him I reckon. Very disappointed with Hourihane, spent most of the game standing still and pointing when he could have been doing something about when we didn't have the ball and didn't look very good with the ball either."

"Onomah and Hourihane showed there's no need to start Bacuna"

"Onomah is going to instrumental for us this season I think. Breaks up play well, holds up the ball calmly and always looks up prior to passing."

"Steer motm obviously. Of the rest, Onomah is the one who continues to impress me. Composure way beyond his years and quick thinking in tight situations. Rarely wastes the ball and put probably our most dangerous ball into their box. He's twice the player Hourihane is on this showing"

"Spurs lad was impressive doing the running next to Whelan could be the way forward this season."

Thanks for that. I just checked a Villa Forum (posted above) and they seem very positive overall.

It looks like Tsaroulla and Brown won't be getting much time in the U23s next season with Rose dropping down.

it's all starting well for Josh, but let's not get carried away remember the calibre of the opposition.

IMO he could have influenced game more if Villa used correctly. Often came showed for a ball as would any Poch coached midfielder, but the lack of awareness in some of the Villa players (defenders in particular) often meant they just lumped over his head. I trust they adapt to his style and not vice versa

This was very noticeable. He picked up so many positions where we would give the ball to Wanyama and Dembélé and trust them to retain possession, but his Villa teammates were looking for the longer ball. Hopefully as they learn his game they will realise he has the ability to receive the ball under pressure and play it out.
