Greenwood got a hatrick for United. Surely must be knocking very hard on the door.

I can't see how a hattrick in an u18s match is going to make Mourinho think to play him. If he did it'd be one last attempt to appeal to the crowd and get them on his side. But if Gomes isn't getting a sniff, though he is very 'lightweight' and he made his debut last year, i don't see why Greenwood would jump ahead of Martial Lukaku or Rashford, would be unlike Mourinho

Greenwood was on bench for CL. He’s miles better than gomes, kids absolute quality. Greenwood is as obvious as sancho was.

Hi everyone, dont watch academy much these days but really appreciate this thread for excellent discussion and updates. Any chance TOB could be involved with the first team this week or is he injured?

So Millwall are basically 2nd division U18 ? Considering our season thought we’d wipe the floor with them. Wonder if they’ve got any decent talent we can nab lol.

I wonder what you would have said about Gomes without the benefit of hindsight and seeing Sancho leave and get chances and Gomes stuck under Mourinho? I assume you've never seen Gomes play. What happens when Mourinho doesn't give Greenwood chances a year from now, I guess the talent won't be as obvious. You're falling into the trap of assuming a player isn't good, as they aren't getting chances and moving onto the next talent who isn't being spoiled due to a lack of integration. He's the new up and comer people can hang their hat on. You will probably be banging the drum for Shoretire to get starts this time next year and Greenwood will be an afterthought. You're also making the mistake of comparing them to Sancho who sensibly left to get chances. One of the very few to have done so and succeeded. Had he stayed at City again his start wouldn't be as high, and he would likely be another overhyped youngster.

Greenwood is an incredible talent, who is definitely better than Rashford at the same age, and if he got a chance I think he'd do well, but realistically that will not happen.

@edson will hopefully chime in as I didn't go, but from the reports and posts from others it sounds as though they used their physique and got into us, which you can't blame them for. I would be very surprised if they had any players in there better than any other our players as they would likely have been signed up by now.

Depends how much he has fallen to be honest which raise an interesting question. Poch saw his talent and brought him into the fold, because he knew he had obvious talent but for whatever reason was not played. He struggled for our youth sides, but then Matt Wells clearly makes his own decisions and put him on the bench for some games. Which leads me to believe he really has total control. But it wouldn't surprise me to see Poch bring him back into the fold and on ability, with so many injuries I'd put him next in line. HOWEVER, on current performances you'd argue he's not. So do you you on matchday performance or ability? If he went Marsh, who was decent I'd be surprised because I just don't think he's that level, but I also wouldn't be surprised because he's a hardworker and gives his all, which is what helps you.

After that on talent I'd go Maghoma maybe even White due to his creativity and set pieces and he does get stuck in but he's far too inexperienced atm. So I'd personally put Bowden next in line. Not as flashy, creative as the other two and therefore less of a risk. He will do the receive the ball and keep it moving job, in a Carrick like way. Though he can pick out a ball or two. He has been brought on at preseason and he wasn't even in the squad tonight, so unless he is injured, I guess he may be in contention for Wednesday.

Not the case they played very well and even though it was a physical game they was fair in the challenge,a few of our players was off the pace tonight and was looking at the ref for freekicks that never was.

They had a player playing CM number 8 who was very good on the night but he went off injured late in the game.

I would have posted more updates but it is hard when you are sitting in the home end and your home screen on your phone is covered with Spurs.

Cheers. And fair play to Millwall then. Forget how strong this group are when Bennett who was recently called up started on the bench, and Clarke and Bowden didn't even feature, nor did Thorpe, who I know is living off more hype than actual performance atm but still

white and Maghoma was off the pace tonight, Bennett was very good when he came on and helped us a lot in extra time.

Without Binks tonight we would have lost this match and that is how good he was.

Parratt was top class as well and will probably be most people's man of the match.

Also I have heard that we've given scholarships to over 10 players. Got an idea of names, would rather get confirmation before I start posting. Heard some players I like have been released. Well one actually, Marcus Muir, so really waiting for confirmation on that as it surprised me. Zanda Siziba has joined Ipswich.

Think it's a big age group, surprisingly, considering the talent but there are some good players in there. I imagine clubs will be trying to nick John off us though, so would hope we're offering him some type of pro now.

Also Reo's hatty

Let me know who picks Muir up because I like him as a player.

I’ve seen Gomes plenty. Why do you assume your the only person that watches youth football. I’d heard a lot about Gomes but was massively let down when I saw him. There was no hindsight with sancho. I knew the first time I saw him he was special like i do with Greenwood.

TOB has impressed me with his work rate of late and that is something he is not known for and he is just stating to perform a lot betting than he has done in the past,I do not know why he has improved has he just got fitter or has someone had a word in his ear because whatever has happened it is working at this point in time.

I don't. I'm just surprised that you would appear to have watched Gomes play more than you would have watched the academy of the team you support.

What did you not like about Gomes? Was it the appearance he made for United's first team or his England performances?

We were poor tonight , maghoma white shaushoa basically your midfield were nowhere near it . Markanday messed up opportunities . Parrotts physicality helped him and us heaps . Bennett was the game changer when he came on . Binks was very good .to be fair we improved after 90 mins when their centre midfielder , (their best player) came off injured and they started to tire , which allowed us to play better as we were basically fitter . Hopefully next round we will be better
