leverkusen in for edwards according to the sun. if it happens i just hope we can work a buy-back into the deal, even if it's something like sell for 5m and buy him back for 20m it would be worth it if he reaches anywhere close to his potential - though it would depend on him actually ever wanting to come back i guess.

next to nothing i suspect, might cover sissoko's wages for the week.
Don't often post in here, was only browsing but Sky Sports said that -

"Spurs would be due six years worth of training compensation for Griffiths, who scored 33 goals for the club's U18 side last season."

FWIW.

For some reason I imagine Skipp to be like a young Roy Keane. Can anyone deny or confirm that ? Just checked Keane stats amazing he only had 10 assists in 440 PL + CL games. But a decent 53 goals.

Without doing research I wonder if we have had the most players move abroad permanently, intentional or otherwise out of the other English clubs.

Griffiths, Bennetts, Madueke, Goddard, Maghoma plus we know Brown was on a trial at a club so will likely be looking to go in that direction too and of course BG posted about Edwards. Quite a lot to keep track of. Will be quite an interesting experiment to see if we bring more players into the first team, or if more of those end up playing top European football.

Actually feels like quite an exciting time for English football. The thought of a player from England going abroad, trying there hand at another culture would be unheard of. So many are going learning new styles, it will be great to see how it works out

I do think he’s something pretty special. Just looks so fearless.

I reckon Poch will have him around this year, but hold him back a little as his body is still growing and filling out. Probably next year is the one for him.
He doesn't need to play 38 PL games though. If he gets 4 starts spread across the FA Cup and LC he would have had a great season developmentally. That would be a taster for him. Or even 5 games where he plays the last 5-10mins in the PL/CL in his favourite position to start to understand what is expected of him at that level, that would be great. Where he can see out games.

If he plays particularly well then he can get longer out there.

Be interesting to know if we're being done a bit by agents who know we've got talent in the ranks and don't pay crazy wages.

Bennetts made a point of thanking his agent when he got his transfer. Reo was like a PR stunt all summer before he signed for us and then immediately quit for Lyon. Vultures circling?

Either way, I'm intrigued to see how they fare in the coming years and whether we change anything in our set up. We can't play them all, after all.

I didn't watch the match v Milan but according to the pre-season thread KWP was good going forward but got caught out a few times going the other way. Sounds similar to Aurier?

No!! When’s Aurier been good going forward ?

Bennett’s was hardly destined for stardom. Scored a few good free kicks and also had some poor games in uefa yth lge. His move to Germany was easier to make than for others as his mother is German, he speaks German and is qualified to play for them. We shall see but I don’t think either him or Reo will come back to haunt us.

Exactly this. And this was my major frustration. As I've always said there are so many players in our academy that could play for the first team at some level. Look at Marsh the guy looked competent out there, but because I and others know we can't play them all, we have to be realistic and only suggested those that were consistently head and shoulders above their teammates. It is therefore so frustrating when these guys get missed out. It's great when any academy player comes through, but the ones seemingly getting selected, if I or others had suggested they should play for the first team like Georgiou and Amos, people would laugh and say we're overrating them. And yet here they are more than capable, and it irks me, that steady eddies are getting these chances while those with massive potential for whatever reason aren't, while it would be great if Amos gets a start in CM I will just see the potential we're missing out on with Onomah. Those guys will likely not improve the first team, but our best academy players could.

Anyway as above I've always said, like other academies, there are so many players that could be playing first team football, at some level, and I noticed a few years ago, as the academy got better we were reaching a point where we were producing too many players, who understandably could never expect to get a chance with their clubs. Truckloads of talent was just being waste, no club can expect to bring through more than 2 per year, but it's great that these players are finally realising this and seeking opportunities abroad. Really can only be good for England

Bennetts was starting to really show the promise he showed at u16 and he was delivering. If we had EL football he could easily have played in that. He is a better winger than Georgiou.

Also I still don't understand this never come back to haunt us argument. It seems a player can only be considered a mistake or haunting if they are World Class. Why are departing academy players judged differently to any signings we make? How many of our signings end up becoming World Class? We have about 3 at most World Class players in our first 11 and one of them came through our academy due to incredible amount of fortune.

Surely any academy player playing abroad that is playing to the same standard as a player we have bought for 15m plus and the wages, is haunting us. That's money we could have put towards an actual World Class player to improve the first team, but instead we missed out meaning we have to find other ways to generate funds to compete with the big boys. Plus we will have lost out on all of the intangible things an academy player brings.

I genuinely thought when Poch came in the academy would have been used as the leveller for us when competing in the transfer market but it hasn't and instead we're there having to wait until the last week of the window to make our signings so the other clubs can't come in and gazump us.
