How does buying players effect the selling price?

They do not want to invest anymore. Holding on to there money selling the club this Season. Why would they not act in this transfer window? It makes no sense, gambling with the cl spot.

I am really looking forward to Levy's version of events - will we get close to the truth of the why and why not? I doubt it - though I really don't think that a man like Levy cocked this up. For me I really do think it's just a matter of time until ENIC sell. If their intentions were to keep hold of the club, i'm sure they would have made a statement signing to usher in the new era at the stadium. How soon it happens I don't know, but I just can't see how the club can justify another net spend, and not get anyone.

Haven't been able to even consider football for much of the day today during work, and I haven't got time to explore this whole thread, so can someone please give me the Cliff Notes version of how Tiger, BBLG, Nicdic and Stoof will have inevitably swooped to Levy's rescue in this thread, ta?

JJ spitting some knowledge on twitter, I'll summarize the last few:
  • Club is aware of fans being upset but they are in denial (think he means the club is in denial of how they fucked up)
  • Will know if Toby is going to sign a new contract in 3 weeks time
  • Says there are no longer any issues between Poch and Toby
  • Said he can't share who the targets were or he would be "compromised"

I don't even think Levy has worked out how to save himself from this tbh..

Sorry mate, but I don’t buy this argument. If that was the case, how did we sign Lloris, Eriksen and Toby for around £10m each when the same chairman had previously paid £18m for Bentley, Paulinho, Darren Bent and £25m+ for Soldado etc?

Just a quick one taken from a website that probably explain what I mean more than I'm able to in words:

http://www.theweek.co.uk/premier-le...nflation-skyrockets-as-transfer-fees-go-crazy

"Take Maradona's transfer from Barcelona to Napoli in 1984. The Italian club paid 1.3 billion pesetas (£6m) for the Argentine, who at the time was the world's best player. In today's prices Maradona would be worth £18m, if you consider inflation has tripled prices in the UK since 1984. That's the same price Watford paid Burnley for Andre Gray. The mind boggles. "

Inflation is astronomical at the moment and by holding our nerve we are staying as balanced as we can to ensure our bubble doesn't burst. It's such a risky time for teams at the moment, we're extremely lucky this team and this manager came around at the time it did as it means we can retain, build a reputation for ones that won't get pushed around and cherry pick class that's worth spending on now. If we didn't have this team and we're still owned by ENIC we wouldn't be able to spend what Everton etc have been able to and would probably be ducking and diving Min the lower half of the table tying to pick up clever yet lacking in quality deals. Keeping our noses dry means we can negotiate better deals in the future with teams we are negotiating with having less reference to previous goings on as an example of when we might blink and if we are bluffing when it comes to what we're prepared to pay

If Toby doesn't sign a new contract then imo he's gone this window abroad.

Sorry if this THST statement has already been posted:

THFC’s inability to make any improvements during the summer transfer window to a squad that is so close to achieving great things has dismayed many fans.

As a Supporters’ Trust, it is not our job to involve ourselves in on-field matters. But we have a responsibility to voice the concerns of our fans about the Club’s ambition and strategy on the pitch. And to ask for a full and believable explanation of how this transfer window has played out.

We do not believe in spending money or signing players for the sake of it. We recognise the achievement in keeping our squad together, for now at least, and in getting key players to agree new contracts. And we commend manager Mauricio Pochettino’s professionalism in his deadline day press conference. He has shown once again his ability to make the most of what he is given.

We have much to be proud of at Spurs. Nine of our players featured in the World Cup semi-finals. Over the last few years, a manager we revere has forged an exciting team that has challenged for top honours. And more fans than the Club cares to acknowledge recognise the challenges and achievements of running a sustainable business and building a top class stadium.

But fans come to watch the team. A team that will start the season with many of its key members still tired after the World Cup. And a squad that most rational observers would agree could benefit from more depth. It is not unreasonable to question if it was really the case that, alone among Europe’s top clubs, Spurs could find no player who would improve their squad while our rivals strengthened theirs.

Earlier this year, the Club objected to THST’s criticism of steep ticket price rises. It told us we could not expect players to be signed or wages to be competitive while we opposed those ticket price rises. Fans have paid the prices asked. And yet no signings have been made.

We know that gate receipts are no longer as fundamental as they once were for financing transfer fees or wages. But ticketing income at Spurs is now higher than it has ever been. We are curious as to what that money has been used for. We have been told the stadium build will not affect transfer spending.

We are told that we don’t have to sign players because we develop our youth. Yet four of our most promising prospects left the Club this summer. Of the current first team squad, just two regulars have come up through the ranks.

We love what has been developed, but for all the great football we’ve seen over the last few seasons, there are no trophies to show.

We have the highest paid Chairman in the Premier League. Our fans pay some of the highest prices in world football. Our support for our team and our admiration for what has been achieved remains strong. However, we believe fans are entitled to a full and credible explanation of what has happened this summer.

51% increase on my Season Ticket at the new stadium compared to WHL, and for what exactly?

I understand that Poch is being diplomatic but inside he must be feeling dismayed. You cannot realistically tell me that there was not one attainable player out there who would have improved us. We've been grossly misled.

Whilst I am shocked we did not sign anyone. I fully expected Spurs to pull at least 2 out of the bag today.

We do have to ask ourselves, if Poch really wanted Gomes or Mina or the likes that have been signed elsewhere would he have got them? The answer is yes! They did not see the quality they wanted and hey moved on. The Grealish situation I think became a scenario where they had to not be held to ransom as everyone else would have thought they now had the way to play Levy!

As much as I am surprised we signed no one I am more surprised we sold none! Where does this leave Alderweireld and Rose? Will they play? I can’t see Spurs selling anyone outside of Janssen to other European teams through fear of leaving the Squad short! Does Levy really think Alderweireld will stay and not lose him for £25m next Summer? None of it really makes sense to me!

Though I wish the THST statement was a little more brief and point-focused, I think it's more than fair for them to ask again why the club has such high ticket prices, now that the excuse offered in the past has been torpedoed.

This window has been like my summer... so much promise and ending in an unmitigated disaster.

Spurs - we’ll make statements signings for the new stadium.

Me - given a £50k gift by my parents. Looking forward to buying a house with my partner.

Spurs - targets not at the WC but waiting to post WC, hmmm

Me - partner devotes life to God.

Spurs - transfer plans start to look like we don’t have a clue what we’re doing.

Me - partner has a breakdown, gets violent and displays traits of bipolar and borderline personality disorder.

Spurs - shit hits the fan, we don’t sign anyone.

Me - had a lovely weekend away with my partner, tells me she loves me and asks me to never leave her. 2 hours later she texts it’s over and leaves whilst I’m at work. No explanation nothing... she’s had an exorcism apparently and God will sort her out.

So yeah this summer from a Spurs and personal perspective has been the most disheartening experience of my life.

What the F. Hope you're doing okay, fella.

If Levy offloads any of Toby, Rose and/or Dembele to any European clubs then Lewis should return the favour and dismiss him on the eve of moving into our new stadium.

The best we can hope for now is we keep the players we have, patch things up with Toby and look forward to the season ahead.

Our squad is bloody good and I know losing Wanyama again is a ball ache but with Moura looking really impressive in preseason the option to drop Eriksen deeper, we’re still well equipped to have a successful season. I know the likes of Liverpool and Everton have spent a fortune but bedding that many players? Yh good luck with that. My only concern is our horrific preseason preparation. For none of our elite players to play a single game is scandalous. A lot of the other WC players have played 1 or 2. Our prep going into the Newcastle game is nothing but amateurish and I fear a negative result if our stars aren’t fit enough to be involved.

If they are in denial I guess our first home game will show them just how much they have disapointed the fans. This is a PR suicide.
