Tottenham Hotspur U.S. Tour Roster

GOALKEEPERS (4) – Jordan Archer, Carlo Cudicini, Brad Friedel, Heurelho Gomes

DEFENDERS (8) – Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Sebastien Bassong, Michael Dawson (captain), William Gallas, Younes Kaboul, Kyle Naughton, Jan Vertonghen, Kyle Walker

MIDFIELDERS (10) – Gareth Bale, David Bentley, Tom Carroll, Tom Huddlestone, Jermaine Jenas, Aaron Lennon, Jake Livermore, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Andros Townsend, Rafael Van der Vaart

FORWARDS (2) – Jermain Defoe, Harry Kane

HEAD COACH – Andre Villas-Boas

Hmmm, count the forwards !

Surprised that Archer is on tour rather than Button (who played in Como last night). I was also half expecting to see Zeki Fryers.

Adam Smith (RB/LB) also joining squad. IMO quite likely there will be others

i was there yesterday too. Have some pics i'll try to upload later if i get a second.

Some 'notes'.. (that Gomes schedule was accurate, i was in the rec area just after they'd left from lunch, and saw then in the tunnel signing right after)

No idea why Bale isn't at the olympics! he was certainly NOT walking wounded (neither was BAE). He participated in training fully and was throwing himself around a lot (incl diving headers). He's a legend. At the end of the session even demanded they leave him balls and he orchestrated shooting practice with townsend, gylfi, kane (and someone else). This was after a 2x sessions of training! the coaches were actually pretty reluctant to give him the balls!

Training was warm up, headers and volleys, a 10 on 10, and then a 7 on 7 (mb 8?), warm down. 90 mins.

AVB was very involved. was in the middle for both 'games' and did a lot of coaching (shouting). he had separate conversations with both BAE and lennon to go over things at some point during the 10 on 10.

Gomes played during the headers and volleys but was then no where to be seen for the rest of the session.

Verts seemed very relaxed. joking with people a lot. in the 10 on 10 he played alongside kaboul and seemed to have been the one instructed to distribute from the back.

all the games were played on very reduced sized pitches. everything geared towards short passing. no runs or long balls.

in the 10 on 10 one player got to wear a red bib, which meant he played for both teams in an attacking way. ie whichever team had the ball, he was on that team - never had to defend. In the first half that was Rafa, in the second it was..... JJ...

bentley cut a pretty disgruntled figure if you ask me. he was the only one who was getting annoyed if teammates didn't pass to him. i may be reading too much into it, but VDV seemed quite distant from the rest of the squad (this may be normal?).

Ferdinand wasn't there. i guess with only 2 strikers, there wouldn't be much for him to do.

Jules, I read elsewhere, that Gomes made some amazing saves and then twisted his ankle - which might explain (if I have it right) why he disappeared.

As expected. And nice to see tbh. Bit different to national teams but this GB thing is very very mickey mouse. Our first choice players shouldn't - and aren't - put it ahead of the club.

yeah. they must have really done a number on Bale though to persuade him to not go? he was quite the poster boy of the GB team!

What was the Q&A with AVB like?
it was annoying, there was so much echo on the tannoy system that it was very hard to hear what he said.
i was in spitting distance of him, which made it worse to discern because of time delay.

but really, it was same answers to same question anyway. He spoke for a while and didn't rush it. but it was all "what are your expectations" "which managers have influenced you most" etc etc nothing we haven't heard already

WORST thing ever was the stupid announcer/MC at the end said "Once more everyone, please give it up for Chelsea, er, i mean Tottenham Hotspur manager, Andre Villas Boas".... funnily it put a real downer on it for me! AVB laughed it off. but god, i am looking forward to the time that people can look at him and not just associate him with Chelsea.

Yeah, the report I read said he made three excellent saves (the phrase used was Spurs 2 Goons 1 in the run-in to our CL quaolifying season good).

Yeah, the report I read said he made three excellent saves (the phrase used was Spurs 2 Goons 1 in the run-in to our CL quaolifying season good).
but, to play devils advocate.. it was a non pressure situation with no defenders crowding the area, where he was under strict instructions not to come and claim the cross. so he had no decisions to make, just stand there and wait for the shot (once crossed, it was obvious who was going to take the shot, no passing). I don't think his shot stopping per se is in question, more his decision making under pressure, which leads to lapses in conifdence etc. right?
