Illaramendi is as slow as treacle. I know how talented he is as a dribbler and passer, but he makes Huddlestone look quick.

I don't expect Olympic sprinters but I would have thought Schneiderlin pace is about as slow as we'd want to go. Quickness of mind won't help him much when we turn the ball over.
he's as quick as what we have in midfield at the moment?

Intelligence and technical ability are more important for a deep lying midfielder than pace imo. Which he has in abundance. You're right he's not the most dynamic athlete but the Huddlestone comparison is harsh. If we were to sign him and we get the player he was at Sociedad he'd be a fantastic pick up I think.

Funnily and surprisingly enough, Dier had one of the BPL:s highest measured top speeds last season.
Illaramendi would be on par with Mason and Bentaleb pacewise?
Illaramendi is basically in the exact same mould as Xabi Alonso. Drawn comparisons with him throughout his career so far. If you want an idea of his mobility think of Alonso.

I don't think he is as slow as is being made out. He's just one of those players that uses intelligence and good positioning to not require buzzing around all over the place, and when he gets on the ball, his good first touch/skills and general calmness can slow the game down around him for short bursts.

Quickness of mind when we turn the ball over is exactly what we need. Don't care if you lack pace in centre mid. If you have the passing ability a speed of thought then you will hurt teams

And last week I was told it was a fallacy that not doing our transfer biz early affected our points in the 1st few games.....Thats 5 points dropped, could cost us at the end of the season.
Right Lol, like every game counts, duh? I think this falls on the peeps who made the deadline a month after the season starts, its really not levys fault that he has to play the game until the deadline, whenever that may be. We really have no clue what goes on in the transfer game. Nonetheless, today was massively disappointing, and don't get it twisted, we fucked it up. Fuck, I'm a vegetarian, but I'm about to eat some sausage pizza, fuck you Tottenham, fuck you, I hate that I love you, I love you so much, I hate you

are we really arguing whether illarramendi's pace would be an issue.. his positioning is second to none. he doesn't need pace ffs

For what its worth, James Pearce at the Liverpool Echo (who is apparently close to Rogers and gets decent info) doesn't think Pool are actually in for Illarramendi and has reported that Rogers doesn't want another holding mid even if Lucas leaves.

That's not what I'm saying, I'm suggesting he's so slow he can't contribute offensively without being a liability. In a system where Poch wants pressure high up the pitch, you can put a line through him providing that, which puts more pressure on the remaining 9 in the outfield.

Love everything else about him, but we need to weigh up his inability to press against his world-class attributes.

I don't know very much tbh. Just that his agent had mentioned him too us when we were inquiring about someone else, and eyebrows were raised as he was thought to be unavailable. How far anything has gone, or even if we have followed it up at all I have no clue about. Will send up the bat signal later to see if I can find out any more, if indeed there is anymore to even find out.

Oh and can say for absolute certain that MP likes him(a lot).

You lot need to read this slowly, let it sink in and then read it again. Once Trix comes back and says the club are trying then its worth getting worked up over, until then, read it, let it sink in and read it again and again and again until it does.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

Berahino thread, there's a comment found by someone (apologies, can't recall who. Edit: @Hoopspur page 158, comment 3150) from a poster on FTL with some VERY specific info that may or may not be ITK (hence it isn't here or in the RO).

Trix has confirmed (A&C quotes his post a few above this one) that his agent mentioned him to us.

That's it. No confirmed ITK, just a good old fashioned rumour. And a lot of jumping to conclusions.

Edit: which means we shouldn't be talking about it in here?
