Les Ferdinand wasn't particularly one of the tallest strikers (5'10ish?) about but was considered one of the better in the air of his generation.

It's all relative to the skillset each individual striker has. If our scouts think this Ivorian kid is the real deal let's get it done before we get beat to the punch (again!)...

5ft 11, he was a strong powerful bloke though.

I'm not against smaller players but when we already have Lennon, Modric, potentially Defoe in the team .... add more in the attacking positions and we risk getting swamped/restricting our play (ball to feet as opposed to mixing it up - crosses, headers, holding the ball up etc).

Wow! This is getting interesting...and im not refering to the young players or the bigger targets, but the heels and the arse :)

Thanks Rebrab and others for passing on the infos about the players. For me this proves real ITK cause its not in the press and obvious.

Chief Scout "Hey check out this kid Lionel Messi, he looks like a real prospect"

Chairman "Yeah he looks promising, but he's just a midget he'll never make it"
Chief Scout "Hey check out this kid Ceballos, he looks like a real prospect"

Chairman "Yeah he looks promising, but he's just a midget he'll never make it"
Trouble is, this one's a Barcelona conversation.

More like, in the case of Barca

"Sure, he's a good player... but is he really gonna get a game for us? We have Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets in the midfield... with talent galore in the youth team. We'll have to let him go, it's for the best for both parties..."

Exactly. They let Fabregas go didn't they?

Barcelona have one of the largest number of top class players in the world. Not being considered good enough to break into their first team should hardly set off alarm bells.

Let's just see how he gets along.

I'm not sure if Fabregas left and they wanted to keep him. But you're right, being released by Barca isn't the end of the world.

Just look at Gio.... erm.... hold on!

Are we now basing our transfer tactics on the Arsenal style, buy young potential talents and nurture them while signing the odd player here and there with experience?

Over the years it's worked for them. Granted no trophy since 2006 or whatever doesn't exactly scream "SUCCESS!"

Forgetting the Arse. We desperately need proven talent in the here and now though, especially up front.

Still we would probably be happy with champs league qualification every season for now.

No. Arsenal took him from them very much against their will due to the vagaries of the youth contract system.
Dos Santos is a better comparison.
But I was not criticising Ceballos. I hope he turns out to be a bargain. But this is not just a case of not being good enough for Barcelona's first team. They let him go. He has had trials at Chelsea and Arsenal as well as Tottenham. We decided to take a chance. The others didn't.
However, I was merely pointing out the one-sidedness of the pretend conversation about Messi. There is a mood on here today to minimise the disadvantages of the shorter player which has involved citing the occasions when Defoe has won headers, a far from regular occurrence, and also overstating Crouch's inability in the air. He wins the majority of headers, but is too often unable to impart power or direction.
With regard to Ceballos, I agree: Let's see how he gets on. But let's not kid ourselves. He is currently with the development squad, not the first team.

I hope he does well, If nobody gave these young players a chance then we wouldn't have football, It wouldn't exist.

Maybe, but I wouldn't be surprised if Citeh's Sheikh Mansour was experimenting with cloning as Emperor Palpatine did in Star Wars.

They've probably paid Messi £100billion for his DNA and rights to clone an entire team like the Emperor did with Jango Fett.

They will pay them nothing to get around the wage ceiling and write the cloning costs off against youth development. UEFA will be powerless.

Parker himself has agreed to join us at least twice in the past twelve months. We even agreed in principle with the spammers.

And yidio youre a cock. What a pathetic post

This. He was even with 2/3 of our players/friends in a decent (I recommend it anyhow) fish and chip restaurant in Buckhurst Hill a week after the City away game.

Told you so re:parker! The number of ITKs claiming a deal was almost done is/was embarrassing. And also, not bashing your info rebrab, but since when did naming players who aren't linked in the press qualify as certain ITK?! that's like me linking Rohan Ricketts with a move. It's a done deal don't you know.

I just praye we get some signings in next week....... it's getting to the point where were desperate now. Do any of you ITK'S actually believe or think we will have a couple of decent signings next week? Just hope this Vucinic deal goes through and we also manage to Get Diarra!! Don't think i can take another season with our atrocious strikers...... If it was up to me then Pav would be the only one i would keep as back up
