I hope that's the case. Getting Vucinic in at this point would just massively take the pressure off so we could allow another striker purchase to go to the wire. If it doesn't materialise it will be far from ideal but not the complete disaster it will be if we don't get any.

Agree with that, at least if we get Vucinic in now we won't be totally screwed no matter what else happens or doesn't happen, unlike the Berbatov window, last January, and last summer.

The goal.com Vucinic story is odd because earlier yesterday one of the goal guys (Wayne Veysey, not Greg Stobart, the author of today's) had a twitter conversation with Windy from COYS where Veysey said he hadn't seen much about Spurs being after Vucinic and he didn't think we had very serious interest because Spurs had doubts over his consistency and attitude.

jurgenthegerman on COYS...

Interesting piece with Pav's agent today in Russian media.

Q Have you had a meeting with Tottenham regarding his contract extension?
A Not yet. The team is on the tour now, so we will talk after they return. We will discuss contract extension and nothing else.
Q Do you have offers from other clubs?
A We don't consider any other offers. Roman wants to stay in London.
His heart belongs to Tottenham.

As some of you know I have family members who work for Swansea

They have asked about loaning Townsend spurs said they will get back to them.

Caulker made his debut last night in a 1-0 loss to Neath FC (welsh premier league team)
Got players like Lee trundle

They also asked about Cudicini but were told we would like to keep him

You have to laugh at the idiocy of some supporters, You have Modric who is hell bent on leaving us and causing no end of trouble this past few weeks and then you have Pav, The Russian with a big heart for the club who wants to stay and yet you have some who see him as useless and should be the first thrown out, You talk about loyalty of the players yet some fans have no loyalty toward the players themselves, the hypocrisy and irony

I don't want to bash CorlukaModric's info, he is probably giving this all in good faith, but there is simply no way Berbatov would want out of Man Utd. He and his agent have both said many times that he wants to stay and fight for his place there.

To be fair he says if Sir Alex wants to cash in. Doesn't mention whether Berba wants to leave or not.

Let's face it. The calibre of players we are being linked to are not going to be good enough to get us back in the top 4. Vucinic is OK and is probably the one realistic target but meanwhile Mancini says they are likely to sign Aguero. We can't compete. And when the manager says 5th is as good as it gets, is it any wonder our world class players will want to leave?

We had our chance last season to sign a top striker when we were a CL side, and we didn't. Because of this we failed to get in the top 4. We blew it.

I wish I could call you an idiot with a statement like that but unfortunately you've summed it up pretty accurately

Pavs is terrible news. We need to sell to buy, but we are only offering a guy who is almost 30 an extension because nobody wants him. This is Levy being too money conscious for his own good. Let him walk after the contract. We need the space. I don't care if we keep him for another year (he's an okay sub), but don't give him an extension and force us to eat 3-5 more years of contract for a bench player. But no, Levy thinks he will get his transfer fee back if he extends. He never will.

And today I go back to being depressed as all we will be able to do is loan out our second level players and it won't be in time to sign anybody we need for an upgrade.

You can never have too many strikers. Apart from keane, I wouldn't offload any of them until January. Even if we sign adebayor and vucinic.
Of course you can. We only have a 25 man squad. If we bring in more over 21 strikers it will cause us no end of problems with the squad. Even Giovani is 22 now. We need to offload the likes of Keane and Giovani and get them off our books this summer.

for the record, and not entirely sure if that was a dig at me or just generally...

but i heart Pav

would be the last of the current crop of strikers that i would want to leave.
