Fact or hearsay based on stuff on here and other places? You seam pretty positive about this.

I really don't know what the club's true valuation is and what the expectations are. I know I was given a dumb for suggesting he was gone from Spurs yesterday, although other people have suggested he has already said his goodbyes on Friday. I'm sure we all just hope and wish it gets done as soon as possible, although to be fair it probably doesn't matter too much now as everything hopefully is in place. After all it must be, right?
I'm comfortable, but it's all water under the bridge. (Hmmmm, probably not good terminology) but, I'm sure you get the meaning.

Some of the Levy bashers need to get a bit of perspective. Yes, he has his bad points, and his extreme brinkmanship is certainly frustrating. But his job isnt all about transfers. its about building the club over the long term, and its not even a debate as to whether he has achieved that. Remember the 90's and early 00's? Paolo tramezzani anyone? Losing 7 - 1 at st james park? Ruel fox? Jason flippin' dozell???? We have a new training ground, new ground on the way, and a healthy bank balance. We are the best run club in our stature in the league in my opinion. Selling up to the next venkys for a bit of short term success is not in my interests.

That said, Mr Levy, if you want to stretch that purse a little further to sign moutinho, just bloody do it!!!

This is exactly it

It pisses me off so much, every window I expect business to just need wrapping up because work has been done but not concluded in the previous window and time leading up to this window

Yet every f**king window it seems like we don't have a club and are starting from scratch again going round and round chasing our tails and then finally trying to start moves in the final week of the window which will end up not being completed so I expect them to be put on hold until the next window at which point.......go back to the start of my post and repeat cycle every window

That's the way he is

You give little Danny two choices - 30m for Modric now....5 days to find a replacement or 35m on the last day of the window and no replacement

He will choose the latter

Remember back in June some ITKs saying when Modric sees the players we are bringing in, he won't want to leave. Sigh.

To be fair, when Madrid come calling, it's an easy decision for a footballer to make.

'Tottenham yesterday turned down a £40million bid from Chelsea for wantaway midfielder Luka Modric, according to manager Harry Redknapp.
The Croatia international has been the subject of intense speculation this summer linking him with a move away from north London.

Such talk was fuelled further by the player himself after Modric admitted he would like to leave White Hart Lane for pastures new, preferably Stamford Bridge.

As a result, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy issued a statement insisting Modric was not for sale at any price and Redknapp has confirmed the midfielder will be staying put.

"The chairman stood firm over Luka," he told Sky Sports News. "I think £40million was apparently offered yesterday. Whether that is true or not, it is what I heard.'

This was the piece in the independent 31.08.11, ridiculous that the saga is an exact carbon copy 12months on if nothing else

I'm afraid it isn't at all.

Last summer, Daniel Levy made it plain (public statements on website) Modric was not for sale. He was never for sale. It wasn't going to happen. If Chelsea or anyone else offered 14 trillion pounds and an army of filipina sex slaves doused in thick-cut marmalade, it would not have altered Levy's stance. Well, maybe that, but certainly any amount of realistic money, even a world record amount, would not have been considered as Levy was not interested and Modric knew this. If you recall last summer, the only news about Luka going came from Chelsea who genuinely believed their money would eventually make Levy sell. They realised their mistake very late but well before the end of the window they were scouting alternatives and eventually AVB was allowed to buy Meireles. The bid for Modric of 40m (28m + Kalou if memory serves) was indeed about 365 days ago, but it was instantly dismissed and Chelsea eventually had to buy Meireles on deadline day, but Aug 31 last year saw no mention of Modric to Chelsea as it was clear even to Chelsea by then he was a Spurs player for the next 12 months.

Which brings us to now. No public statements have been made this summer. No ITK has said he will be forced to stay. Modric is known to be moving on. Which means two things for Spurs:

a) We need to maximise the money we get for him. So far, I don't believe we've received any bid over perhaps 23m or maybe 27m. That isn't agreeable, so we haven't accepted. People upset we haven't sold Modric would do well to remember we would need to receive a bid first. If we now have received a 33m bid, it doesn't surprise me that details are now being finalised and the transfer will progress soon, I'm sure.

b) We need the best possible replacement. It seems that AVB wants Moutinho. Makes sense. But we have been quoted 30m+. If that's the case, of course we haven't bought yet. Even when the Modric money comes in, that's a big risk. Alternatives have obviously been scouted. Various deals will be discussed at the moment, hence the drivel about us "waiting for Moutinho" is, well... drivel. We'll end up getting a replacement only if it is someone we can afford and better than what we currently have. I bet there are several options in that category, and I bet we've been trying to find the best possible replacement. We'll probably get someone good, albeit not quite Luka Modric - but then that's why he's wanted by one of the best sides in the world. That's life.

I can readily imagine the "bumpy ride" JJ describes. It is such a huge shame that we've had to sacrifice three points (one at SJP and two yesterday) to be in this position, but the policy has seen us bring in several good players and by-and-large is responsible for our general upwards growth over the past decade. The final thing to remember about each transfer window: we're not SUPPOSED to sign lots of players. Three or four per window should be plenty. We're not Sunderland or West Ham desperate to improve in all positions, we need high quality to go straight into the first team.

For what little it's worth, I predict we'll be welcoming Willian in on Thursday and have Kaka or Granero (loans most likely) following on Friday. That's it. If a massive VDV-esque deal falls out of the sky, marvellous, but it's unlikely.

Not sure on loan signings as it smacks of borrowing cos we can't afford plus how committed are players who know they are not staying long term, I don't like it.

I really hope plan b doesn't mean less quality players

Paln A involved getting high quality players at discount prices - it's never going to happen

The best way to judge a person is to look up his past

We sold two high quality players Berbatov and Carrick for 30m & 18m respectively

Little Danny replace them with Pavlychenko and Zokora for significantly less

So there is no logic to suggest that Modric will be replaced by someone like Moutinho whose value is the same
