This thread is rediculous.

Yes Harry talks a lot but to analyse every phrase is crazy. When he says its as good as it gets - he doesn't mean it litterally - he just means this has been a decent season. We are realistically behind Manu, Chelsea and Arse. City have taken massive leaps forward this year - but we still challenged them until the final few weeks. I think everyone would agree that the CL run has affected our league form - if we had not been in the CL but got an extra 7 points in the league, we would all be delighted with the season. (Not sure it's better than last season but considering the distratcion of the CL, it's arguably comparable.

He has often said that with a couple of extra players we could challenge for the title. Now he says we've had a good season and should be happy as fans and there is a 20 page thread questioing his ambition and attitude - after one throw away sentence,

I don't think Harry is an embarrasment for his interviews. Compared to other managers, he talks openly and honestly (except about transfers). Apart from bitter West Ham, most other fans like Harry and like Spurs. I hated it when Ramos was in charge and never gave an interview - I felt I had no connection to the club and we were in the dark about everything. I much prefer Harry giving interviews all the time. Sure with that many interviews, he's bound to say some things you disagree with.

We've had 2 and a half very good seasons with Harry. This last season wasslightly disappoiting but we finished where neutrals expected us to finish and exceeded everyone's expectations in the CL. Hence decent season.

Actually, I think it will. Would it on its own - maybe a slight difference.
But players pay attention to 'other' things, too. Profile raising season in CL, some well-known fantastic players, the emergence of Bale, and, latterly, Sandro and playing in Europa (which has tobode well for regular European football, and so, therefore, a good tilt at qualifying for CL again, as we clearly came close this time). All this combined - yeah, I think some pretty decent players will be looking at that and thinking we are a team on the up.

If i was a player thinking of signing for Spurs i'd give serious thought to the fact that we have a very good change of winning the Europa League given how well we played in the CL this campaign.

Now he says we've had a good season and should be happy as fans and there is a 20 page thread questioing his ambition and attitude - after one throw away sentence,

Watch the interview again, it was more than just one throw away sentence, it was basically the whole interview that was off the mark.

Great - we have assembled our best squad in forty years and had a fabulous, if ultimately frustrating season, and our fans want to plunge the club back into its usual state of chaos because the manager is riled into making some incoherent ill-thought out remarks by a snide radio hack.

So long as Modders, Rafa, Bale, Thudd, Sandro etc are happy to play for him there is no way we should be thinking about axing Harry. If it aint broke don’t fix it, and the team aint broke it is just missing a couple of parts.

Actually it was on sky sports and the cameras were there for all to see. You should have seen the SSN presenter in the studio when the camera went back to him. The raised eyebrows had "oh dear" written all over them.

No one wants to go back to the dark ages. This is just a typical knee jerk reaction from someone who is afraid of any semblence of boat rocking! Harry needs to engage brain before mouth; show respect to fans; and most of all show respect to this club that has given him his biggest challenge of his managerial career.

Exactly.

Nobody wants him sacked, he just needs to engage the old brain - does anybody enjoy those sort of interviews?

There painful to listen to, and perhaps if we sensed more of a togetherness in terms of a relationship with our manager as opposed to the implied 'me and them' relationship he's trying so hard to cultivate - perhaps most would afford him more latitude with the occassional blunder in an interview.

Harry is creating these ambivalent feelings by the way he's handling things in interviews...its easy avoidable, but he's obviously sensitive and very defensive.

Btw, is that Andy Burton asking Harry questions? Didn't he piss off Harry a while back by calling him a "wheeler dealer". There was no need for him to bring up about these "idiots" calling in.

Harry was saying that we had the 5th best squad in the premier league so we finished as high as we should have done.

He went on to say that we need to invest for the future if we want to win the premiership

Nothing delusional there

If Harry truly believes that this is as good as it gets...well it probably will be, self fulfilling prophecy and all that.

I dont think he genuinely believes it, he just cant handle a smidget of criticism and starts to throw his toys out when there is even a hint of it.

Its actually quite juvenile.

He clearly didn't believe that 3 months ago and sure he's admitted himself, a week ago, that Bale and VDV ran out of steam and that played a big part in our dropping points.

I think most fans applaud Harry for what he's done, I certainly do, but this attitude that he should be immune to all criticism grates with a lot of people - me included. To compound that its taken out on the fans when its been his regular exchanges with the media which are largely responsibile for building expectation.

You cant have it both ways. All the positive attention and then bigging us up for things and then when it goes a bit peared shaped to start digging at the fans because most are dissappointed.

It has been a good season but it could of been better in the League, he knows this and I sense his frustration but he channels it in the wrong way....digging at the fans is not the way to handle it.

Lets be honest all this would be avoided if Harry could actually think for a second before getting all billy big bollocks with the fans. Most had accepted missing out in the Champions League by yesterday yet he had to stir the pot a little even if the interviewer was probing him.
This.

When the dust settles and people can have the maturity to detach this issue from "Harry out/Harry is God" sentiments I think we will all eventually agree that while Harry has done a good job it really boils down to the fact that his media relations leave a lot to be desired.

I agree with Spurger King above as well. People can always go on about how he said it incorrectly or whatever else, but the fact remains that some fans will consider themselves the targets of the "idiot" comments and others will worry about the message that "as good as it gets" sends out. As I said earlier in the thread Harry is not some green newbie and he should know better.

You don't have to want Redknapp out to notice that his attitude with the media has been a mistake and has stirred up more of the people he sees as "idiots" rather then if he had taken a different approach.

It doesn't though. We are 8 points behind our total for last season. We should have been building on our success from last season and IMO should have had at least as many points from this one.

I think the fact we are this far behind in terms of points means that this wasn't as successful a season as last season.

Also worth noting is that if we had equalled last seasons 70 points then we would have finished 4th again this time round too, above Arsenal.

Ok we are 8 points behind our tottal last season, but compaire it to the other top teams.

ManU -5 and just about to play in the Champions League Final after Winning the League

Chelsea -15

Arsenal -7

City +4

Liverpool -5

so its not just us that have propped points from last season.

Actually Harry is very lucky the media love him so much, as if this was said by a less media admired manager it would have been blown out of all proportion and be on the back of every newspaper

Imagine if Mancini had said some of things that Harry has this season.

Media realtions leave a lot to be desired = he talks a pile of bat droppins at front of cave  Or, as Bomber put it with more finesse (now, there's a first:wink:), he ain't very eloquent.
