Best of luck to him, if it wasn't for Werder, his season could have been so different at Hamburg. At least he won't be in charge of Sunderland/Pompey next season.

Good luck BMJ, I hope you have much success with Ajax and restore them to their lofty heights of old.

Best of luck to him, it was his dream job in Holland. Can't help feeling that he would have been better off staying in the Bundesliga though, he is going to have to completely rebuild Ajax.

To think we sacked him for the dross that was Ramos. But then, Jol at Ajax, Ramos at Real.....it's like we're jinxed.

Apparently this has been on the cards since Jol criticised the HSV board in the press, saying you can't sell 40 million euros' worth of talent and expect to move forward on the pitch. According to the Bild, HSV told Jol he has an 11 million euro budget for the summer, which seems incredible seeing as they sold De Jong and Neves for 25 million in Jan.

I'm not sure that Ramos was "dross" to be honest. Anyway, best of luck to Martin Jol.

In response to danielneeds, I suspect that the fact that he has to "completely rebuild Ajax" is entirely the attraction of taking the job, surely that's the point!

I remember a couple of seasons ago when Ajax came sniffing round for Martin and he told them no. Only to be royally screwed by Levy and his cronies 6 months later. After the excellent job he's done at Hamburg, Ajax should be a cinch, hopefully he can restore their faith in youth team development and take them to the top of the Edilweisse where they belong.

Not really, Olic has just left on a free and apparently HSV's budget for the summer is 11 million euros. He's not going to be able to replace VDV, De Jong and Olic with 11 million euros. They sold 25 million euros of talent in Jan, so being told he's only going to have 11 million, having lost VDV and Kompany the previous summer, seems to have caused a rift between Jol and the HSV board.

lol at jol doing an excellent job at hamburg!

The bundesliga must be the weakest it's been for many, many years I mean Wolfsburg won the title ffs!

Once again Jol fails to achieve champs league qualification and fails to win a single trophy.

Nice guy though.

5th place finish and a Semi final? not bad, pretty much what we did at Spurs...although he will have to better that at Ajax.

Harry is just as good if not better, lets give him a chance.

Fair play, I didn't know that his budget would be so little. They usually are very good at replacing the talent they sell. Still a massive job at Ajax, and even then getting them back to the top of very weak league only has a limited cache.

Cue the Huddlestone to Ajax rumours. BMJ connection, dutch football, and his passing ability etc

Last season Wolfsburg finished on the same points as HSV. They went on to spend a net of 30 million Euros this year. HSV made a profit of 20 million euros. They also played 7 more games than Wolfsburg in the run in. Do you not think the loss of VDV and De Jong, along with the extra games is worth 8 points? HSV got the second highest points total they've had in over 20 years, got to 2 semi finals and did all this having sold their 2 star players.

fyi spursandbarca..

he was technical manager for ajax in van basten's first year but decided to resign after a row with van basten about ajax youth policy.

cruyff wanted to fire all youth trainers and start all over but van basten was against it, much of ajax current youth trainers are old ex players.

He wasn't there for a year, more like a few months. Van Basten had less one year before he resigned anyway. The Cruyff and Van Basten rift goes alot further back. I knew it'd end in tears for one or both when it was announced they'd have to work together again. It'd almost be akin to Comolli being hired to work with Jol again in 10 years...

End of the day Cruyff tried to help out Ajax last year but Van Basten had other ideas. The result? Ajax look even worse than before with even their youth setup crumbling. Despite all the things Cruyff has done and continues to try to do for Ajax they never repay him and somehow count him as secondary.

Hopefully Jol is the one to pull Ajax out of the mire though.

Kompany as well. Jol did a great job there and got them playing great football. Wish him well at Ajax as they are a close club to Spurs.
