Thought MJ was a bit more loyal then that

I think under normal circumstances he would have stayed put, but the draw of going home to manage the team with the most history over there would have been impossible for him to turn down.

I hope like others have said he is a success there, then Harry hands the reigns back one day in a few years.

He was never going to go to Sunderland, you'd have to be daft to believe that.

Lets hope he'll come back to Spurs in a year or two.

nobody see the irony of Jol walking out on Hamburg after what happened to him at Spurs?

It crossed my mind, but (and you know that I was one who supported Jols removal, though not the surrounding circus) as I understand it Hamburg were approached by Ajax and accepted it before Jol even spoke to Ajax.

Good luck BMJ!!

I'm really happy he's not going to another PL club, don't think my heart could take it if he went to Sunderland or, god forbid, Man Citeh. Now I can cheer on Ajax in peace. :)

Don't you think with hindsight Jol regrets not walking out on Spurs in the summer of 2007? It's taken a good season at Hamburg and our total collapse without him, for BMJ to restore his reputation. Had he left before the 2007/8 season his reputation would have been untarnished.

HSV don't look like they are going to have money to spend, so what good can staying there do for his career? I doubt HSV will finish in the top 6 next season, whilst Ajax have a genuine chance of winning Eredivise.

if he had stayed with that budget he would have got a reputation as a ''wheeler dealer manager'' good on him for walking i say..

OK , here in Hamburg the word betrayal , is being bandied about . They ain't happy in these parts . Walking after a season....not so loyal eh .

Well that's harsh. HSV fans should be mad at the management as there seems to be some broken promises to Jol that caused this.

but it's still a step down, yes he can win Erdivise with Ajax as the biggest teams there, but the bundesliga is much better league for him, he should look for FC Bayren job or big team in England like Chelsea or even Sunderland would whom would back him with good transfer budget, it is much better challenge for him.

I was quite surprised when I saw this when flicking through sky sports text this morning.

Seems kinda odd as he was doing a good job at Hamburg but I think Ajax always had a place in his heart - I'm pretty sure he ruled himself out of the running for the PSV job when it became available a short while ago.

Waht a gig he's got, to take over Holland’s biggest team and one of Europe great names whilst they are on their arse! He only has to get them better than they were last season to be a success. He’s timed his move well to them because eventually they will get back up to where they should in Holland. He did it with Spurs from a low base and made an impact at Hamburg and i'm sure he can at Ajax.

Hamburg were crippled by selling their best players before last season and during the January transfer window. I think he did a great Job for them despite just missing out on CL qualification and the UEFA cup final.

Can we go get Olic, the Croatian Rooney now J

hopefully he can restore their faith in youth team development and take them to the top of the Edilweisse where they belong.

He'd probably be best to concentrate on the Eredivise for the time being, his flower collecting will have to wait

Best of luck Martin!
