Good luck BMJ, - still love the man. Thrilled for him - but do you think he would have left us for them when this job came up a couple of years ago and his name was linked with it?

Glad he's not going to Sunderland - would have been hard to see him loving another premiership set of fans.

He wasn't there for a year, more like a few months. Van Basten had less one year before he resigned anyway. The Cruyff and Van Basten rift goes alot further back. I knew it'd end in tears for one or both when it was announced they'd have to work together again. It'd almost be akin to Comolli being hired to work with Jol again in 10 years...

End of the day Cruyff tried to help out Ajax last year but Van Basten had other ideas. The result? Ajax look even worse than before with even their youth setup crumbling. Despite all the things Cruyff has done and continues to try to do for Ajax they never repay him and somehow count him as secondary.

Hopefully Jol is the one to pull Ajax out of the mire though.

cruyff was behind van basten being appointed as ajax head coach..

and cruyff was also the one that made it possible that van basten became oranje national coach. van basten had next to no experience.

their 'relationship' isn't what it used to be but they are back on speaking terms.

I KNEW IT!

Every club he leaves is slowly coming closer towards WHL.

And this IS Spurs chat to all you whiners. BMJ probably watches more Spurs games than most on here. He said he could easily take Wenger in a fight. That gives him eternal Spurs Chat status.

Cue the Jenas to Ajax threads.

I would like to say a gentlemanly 'piss off' to all those claiming this isn't Spurs chat. Martin Jol was the most loved manager at Spurs for the past decade and will be returning here within the next 5-7 years. How he is doing is of interest to most Spurs fans. Therefore, it is Spurs chat.

Martin Jol arrives in the ArenA

28 May 2009
Martin Jol has arrived in the Amsterdam ArenA. The 53-year-old coach will be presented to the media as the new coach of Ajax on a press conference today at 16:00.
Jol signs a contract for three seasons with Ajax. Next to coaching the first team, he will also be responsible for transfers, the scouting and Ajax's youth development program. Jol's first impression was a good one. ,,I have been here before. Ajax give me a very good feeling.’’

The The Hague-born coach joins Ajax from Hamburger SV, where was the boss from the beginning of the past season. Jol contended for the German title with the club for a long time. HSV finished the season in fifth place, earning the right to play European football next season. In the UEFA Cup, Jol and HSV reached the semifinals, where they fell to Werder Bremen.

,,I left HSV with pain in my heart, but when Ajax asked me, it got me thinking. Ajax is a big club in Holland. The Ajax feeling is just great.’’

I've always has a soft spot for Ajax as when i was young they had the CL winning side of VdS, Davids, Seedorf, Kluivert etc. I really hope Jol can turn them around as they should be a regular side in the CL even though they come from the Dutch league. There is a bit of dead wood that needs to be got rid of, Kennedy, Leonardo possibly Gabri as well. But he has Aissati, Emanuelson, Vermaelen and Sulejmani who are good players. I would love some of our younger players to go out there on loan but i can't see that happening.

more good news

cruyff will be back at the club, but he demands full support in all his decisions. so it looks like there will be some changes coming up with our youth squads after all.
