We were far better than this under Sherwood (who actually had a very good PL points per game record).
He had at least one capable CB, more than one striker to choose from and some proper midfielder too. Not only that but he had some ok full backs too.

The league was not as strong as it is now either.

Yeah but Sherwood probably had a more balanced squad to choose from?

Or at least a half decent defence.

Not Mason’s fault that most of our defenders bar Royal are hapless are the moment.

Pretty sure we wouldn't have had the Newcastle result or been 3-0 down in 15 minutes against Liverpool with Conte. Either way mason hasn't done anything of note with this squad.

That's no discredit to him he's young and these players are like to phone it in the first opportunity they get. Mason is just Sherwood mark 2. Initial reaction but tactically naive and that's fair enough.

Stellini must take most responsibility for the Newcastle result, not Mason.

But even setting that aside, it's not like the Newcastle result came out of nowhere. For example, we were thrashed 4-1 by a much worse Leicester team a couple of months earlier, albeit Conte wasn't there that day.

Similarly, we might not have gone 3-0 down to Liverpool within 15 minutes if Conte was in charge. But just a couple of weeks earlier, we surrendered a 3-1 lead to a much worse Southampton team with roughly 15 min left to play.

I agree that there's been no major turnaround since Mason took over, but I think the damage was already done then.

What a weird comment / take.

We were at rock bottom when Mason took over having just broken a record for letting in 5 goals in the first 25 mins of a PL match.

We went from that to drawing against Man.U and nearly getting a great comeback draw away to Liverpool, beating an inform Palace side, losing away to a very in form Villa side and then playing one of the best 45 mins of football all season against Brentford but couldn’t sustain it.

As I said it’s not the right time for Mason but respect for the job he’s done with so little prep time and taking on a squad who’s form and confidence is rock bottom.

If you don’t think he deserves credit then sorry but you clearly don’t understand football and the difficulty of the job and situation and circumstance he took on.
We had a chance of europe and blew it, since when does 1 win in 5 games deserve credit? Yes we just had a hammering to Newcastle, but such a result isn't representative of the team, we not going to concede 5 goals every game, we are hardly Southampton, yes we are pretty poor, but we still have some good players, and 1 win in 5 isn't impressive at any position in the table let alone one who were in the top 6, but whatever, you can continue to praise mediocrity

I'm not blaming mason at all quite the opposite. I'm just saying he's not driven a major turnaround he's just got them running around a bit.

Spot on. The fact stellini had a better record tells you everything you need to know.

Another good performance today, well done Mason given the situation he picked up he and his coaches have done a really really good job given the context 👏

Probably best for us and him if he goes and gets a different experience elsewhere next season.

One thing I would say is that he’s been very unlucky since taking over.

Man.U game we had chances to win that which would’ve been an incredible turnaround.

Liverpool game nearly an incredible turnaround draw until Lucas gave them a goal on a plate.

Solid 1-0 win against an in-form Palace side

Poor team performance against Villa.

1-0 up and completely dominating vs Brentford in the first half, also had 2 cleared off the line and one Son shot blocked that was going in so could’ve been 3/4-0 up!!! Then our defence crapped the bed as usual but even then Richy had 2 great chances and Raya made 2 incredible saves at 1-2, then they go on to score a 3rd because Skipp can’t control the ball.

In another universe we beat man.u, draw against Liverpool and are 2/3-0 up at HT today and go on to win and we are comfortably going to finish in a EL place.

Fine margins in football sometimes.

Huge credit for the way he’s turned this team around, let’s not forget we let in 5 in 20 mins vs Newcastle and we were often 2-0 down at HT to teams, today we went in 1-0 up and we finished the game with 60+% possession 22 shots, 8on target, 8 corners and an xg of nearly 2, if it wasn’t for Ben Davies not knowing how to defend or have any pace and Oliver Skipp not being capable of controlling the ball we get a beautiful performance and win today.

Anyways I know he’s not the right option to take the job full time but I really think the job he’s done since he took over an incredible mess is actually being very underrated, full credit to him and his staff.
Add to this a 4-1 away win.

Don’t care what anyone says, anyone who actually takes into account the football circumstances will agree that Mason and his staff did a fine fine job 👏 credit to them for stepping in again and getting us playing some decent stuff at times and feeling more like a spurs team.

Interesting to see him give 2 youngsters a game today. I wonder if he was also indicating to Levy that he's prepared to give youth a chance. After all, we are all wanting a new manager who will do that.

But nice way to sign off and a decent win.

Relegation beckons if we keep him and lose Kane imo.
Absolutely no chance of those combination of things happening.

Take Kane out we still win 2-1 today with 8 injuries to the squad and that’s assuming we’d play a dud up top.

Mason has such a clear vision and understanding of what our club needs, that is so important.

If we sold Kane and Mason was Manager he’s not stupid, he’d make signings and adapt to make sure we created chances and scored goals but any manager taking over our squad without Kane would have challenges but no way under mason we’d get relegated, he’s shown in both his stints in charges he’s a perfectly capable coach with a very bright future.

Sorry but I just LOVE how Mason speaks, he’s a true fan and completely gets it, so so refreshing every single press conference he says what we are all thinking. Very proud of Mason.

Sorry folks but he just comes across to me as a fairly good coach that's nowhere near ready to be in this position.

He shouldn't be anywhere near the job but I fear he will be through process of elimination.
