Oh shut up. He's a flop at Madrid. Worst signing of the season. bla bla bla (<-- obviously being sarcastic)

There are still some people who think he "couldn't cut it" at Madrid based on that early "worst signing" nonsense, totally oblivious to the fact that he was perhaps their best/most consistent player toward the end of the season. And he definitely won some supporters over (which isn't always the easiest thing to do over there).

His carreer there startet pretty much the same as with us. Signed for a high fee, alot of fans critisized the buy because there are already good midfielders at the club, slow start to the season, blame partially on him, once settled he starts to show why he is considered one of the best on his position, starting to win fans over etc etc... sooner or later he will be a fans favourite as he was with us.

back to topic though:

I just checked the major croatian newspapers and nothing new there. Seems like all picked up the story of "Arsenal may hijack the deal" but no new quotes or anything, seems like the just copied the idea from the original source (was there one at all?) and try to dramatize the story.

Im on the same page as Dinpomp and GutBucket, I think both will be Spurs players. For their development it would possibly be the best choice available. Being loaned back to Dinamo, playing there first team football, hopefully getting CL experience. Maybe during winter break (which is pretty long in Croatia) coming to London and training with the spurs players at one of the best training centres available.

Mamic said himself in the press conference that Arsenal was one of the clubs in the running.

EDIT - how is that creative Jonno1977? Mamic said it, as corroborated by Dinpomp further down.

Did he actually say Arsenal? Or just that there are other clubs interested and that its not done etc?

I couldnt watch the conference.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

Modric was a great player no doubt, it was unfortunate that his advisers saw fit to get him to come out with that Chelsea nonsense.

Playing well for Madrid is not really a surprise he is a great player and one that was a pleasure to see at Spurs, back on topic i am hoping these two young lads have a similar impact.

Well it was a journalist who tweeted live from the press conference saying Arsenal was one of the clubs. He specifically mentioned Arsenal:

Aleksandar Holiga@AlexHoliga 34m
Q: 'Could someone else beat Spurs to Halilović & Jedvaj yet'. Mamić: 'Yes, that's possible'

Aleksandar Holiga@AlexHoliga 34m
Mamić mentions Arsenal as one of the contenders for both players...

It's in the Halilovic thread on page 1.

Cross-posting this from the daily thread for the guys who only hang out in Croatian threads :p

from FredNor on COYS today (on Halilovic and Jedvaj):
My brother in law(from Croatia and travels to a lot of their games) told me yesterday that his friend who works in Dinamo and is well connected(told him about Modric deal early on when he came to us, and same with Eduardo to arsenal and when Mandzukic went to Wolfsburg, all before the press was even close of knowing when the deals where done) he called him yesterday to confirm if it is us or arsenal that are getting the "wonderkids". Replied with: Arsenal is interested, but that the deal is sealed with us and that we have some crazy add-on fees on these boys. Will make Dinamo rich if they blossom!
Just passing on in good faith.

This from a transcript of the press conference:

Bi li bilo iznenađenje da netko drugi od engleskih klubova kupi Halilovića i Jedvaja?

– Ne bi. Ne postoji klub u Top 20 koji nije pitao za njih. Čovjek iz Bayerna je gledao utakmice, ali i treninge Bayerna. Arsenalov čovjek Rolly bio je na stotine utakmica i treninga kadeta i juniora.

Translation:

Would it be a surprise if another English club came in for Halilovic and Jedvaj?

- No it wouldn't. There isn't a club in the Top 20 who hasn't inquired about them. Bayern has someone who watches every match, even the practices. Arsenal has a man "Rolly" (Steve Rowley) who has been at hundreds of matches and practices of the cadets (U17's) and juniors (U19's).

Yep he really shone later in the season and wasn't so bad early on, it's just that he was the fall guy for some poor Real performances and results earlier on rather than all the expensively acquired galacticos they had assembled and been around a few years who were not producing and of course he got some flack from certain quarters for no other reason than he was seen as a Mourinho signing

Hey I read the ITK's also, just gave up on the ITK Discussion thread along time ago :smug:

Hopefully this info is correct, could be that the add-ons might have decided the deal.

Pedulla is known to contradict himself from time-to-time. He'll change stories from an hour-to-hour basis. I wouldn't take his word for it, but I guess you "never know." He has had some good info in the past. Not sure if this one of the "wild guesses" or if there really might be something in it.

I don't think that guy would get info before Croatian media here, nothing about that here yet.

Again, Di Marzio was the first to break the news. Came out of nowhere. Same with the Kovacic transfer. And Guardiola to Bayern. Why/How would he get THAT info first? An Italian breaking a Spaniard's move to a German club? But it transpired that way.

This is not coming from Di Marzio, and I don't put too much stock into Pedulla's claim. That said, it's not "crazy" that the Italian media could be first to this type of news.

On the other hand, Pedulla has also just written that Jedvaj is due in London and may be there as we speak (to meet with Spurs).

Jedvaj (and Halilovic) played in a preseason match yesterday (in Slovenia). Dinamo are playing again today, but they are not in the starting 11 (not sure if on bench).

Well, he's definitely not in London now. Just came into the game as a second half sub. Jedvaj that is.
