Roma have confirmed it was 5m euros and the contract is for 3 years (not 5 as was initially reported).

Vrsaljko, Genoa is closer: the situation

Article published Monday, July 8th, 2013 at 23:14 - Football , Genoa .

The Genoa continued their pressing Srme Vrsaljko. The full-back like Dinamo Zagreb and not a little, the offer of 4 million euro has already been practically accepted. There is still a bonus dancing in the negotiation, between tomorrow and the day after everything can be solved.

Vrsaljko to Genoa is official (another player previously linked with Spurs):

Jedvaj at his press conference:

"There were a lot of clubs interested in me, but that's not important now. Roma is a big club with great players. Above all there is Totti, one of the best players of all time. Tottenham was very interested, but Roma showed me how much they really wanted me and I'm happy to be here."

He took the number 33 after his "idol" Thiago Silva (he initially wanted his regular number 16, but that belongs to De Rossi).

what i really like about this signing, or non signing, is that it implies that he comes from baldini's list. roma just acted faster and stronger.

if these kind of youngsters are on baldini's list... then i'd agree with what many are saying - first team / first eleven signings done by july, and then youngsters in august.

future's bright.

Looking forward to POTL's justification of this one after Baldini spent so long working on them, only to be trumped by a £5m bid.

I could write it by proxy, if you like

"Don't blame Levy and Franco, Levy and Franco are doing a great job. Franco tried, so did Levy. Franco just couldn't get it done. Franco is pleased with Levy and Levy is pleased with Franco. Transfers are complicated and Levy and Franco were simply looking after our own interests. Levy, Franco, Levy, Franco, Levy, Franco.

I am not sure whether you're one of those who from now on will blame the DoF for any failed transfer, like so many fans did with Comolli. Again, it's Levy/board that controls the money, not Baldini; so he can't offer the concerning players whatever he like to. The final work is with Levy.
It's far too easy to blame Baldini on this. As you must have seen, the president of the club even declared that the deal was finalized...so who really knows what happened. The goal posts seem to have moved after a deal was agreed.

So then what is his purpose, and more importantly, what will change in the future?

To the bolded, I wonder who he got that idea from. Were the goal posts really so far from 5m Euro?

How about Roma, made a big fuss over him and he felt wanted and more appreciated than with our offer... shocker... player chose a different club. Again, as with David Villa, nothing screams at the fact that we skimped on price. We simply didn't charm him as much as Roma did clearly.

Roma had been working on a deal for far longer than we had by all accounts.

Maybe it was just a case that a couple of kids and their families didn't want to move to England yet? That seems to be why Halilovic hasn't happened. Italy by comparison is just next door, so may not feel as much of an upheaval for Jedvaj.

Protracted negotiations are our MO, maybe players feel more wanted if negotiations progress more quickly.

With the quotes seeming similar to what Villa alluded to, I can't help thinking this is down to us.

But a deal for him to go to Roma had already broken down before we were heavily linked to him, so negotiations for them were just as protracted, maybe even more so.

That is just your anti Levy bias at work. Seems obvious to most people that he really wanted to stay in Spain but would have come to us if no decent offer was forthcoming from a good Spanish club.

Why did you even bother to respond to him? It's not like you're going to make the slightest bit of difference to his agenda.

Look at the amount of times things have gone down to the wire in windows for targets we've pursued for a LONG time. Questioning our methods of negotiation is hardly surprising given the about of times we've been let down. Levy blah blah, he's a chairman and he's made as many mistakes that have cost us as much as he's helped the club.

It's not fucking black and white and there are obviously problems with our transfer 'strategy'.

As for an agenda, my only one a a fan is to see the club improve on the pitch and our dealings are obviously a massive part of this if we want to kick on. He's not Jesus, he makes mistakes, it's making the same ones over and over again I take issue with...and if it seems like it's pretty constant it's because we've done this for a long time now.

I'm also a bit sick of the fawning that goes on over him, pro-Levy and anti-Levy...what a crock of shit.

Maybe we let Roma take him in exchange for a shot a Lamela....... back in the real world, sucks we missed out on him but i guess you always run a greater risk of things falling apart when you try and do double deals, there are just many more people involved that one small thing could put the whole deal out of whack. Roma where just quicker then we where at picking up the pieces when it all fell apart. Shame, but thats football.
