Does anyone still actually think that Carroll (who turns 22 in May) is better than Bentaleb (who turns 20 in November)? There is a reason that Bentaleb is playing in our first team & Carroll can't get in QPR's side. Ive watched QPR about ten times this year and Carroll just looks like another ok player who will probably end up at a lower level premiership team.
Ive never seen Carroll play a cross field ball like the one from Bentaleb last night, Ive never seen Carroll track back & tackle the way Bentaleb does and rarely does Carroll play wonderful through balls like the pass from Bentaleb to Lennon last night.
I really hope Im wrong and Carroll becomes a world beater over the course of the next two months but I just dont see it. Baring in mind he is only 3 months younger than Eriksen and 2 months younger than Lamela (who has represented Argentina and scored 15 goals in Serie A last year).
I think physical development and nature of league have a lot to do with that really. I've seen him play tenaciously. QPR's style of late has not suited him, and therefore he has not been effective. There is that air of desperation in the Championship which means that the long ball is adopted with hit and run tactics being employed. There is definitely some good football in the Championship but it might not have been the best fit. If he doesn't play for us next season is has to be a Southampton style team in the Premiership, although I can't see anyone other than a newly promoted side develop someone else's player.
