Just switched over to BBC2 Wales to watch this one, 12 minutes in, Swansea have had a player sent off and Carroll has been subbed off already ? Injured ?

Swansea sign Jack Cork from Saints. So more competition for a starting place for Tom C. However, due to injuries, absences, suspensions and ineligibility, Tom Carroll is 100% certain to start this weekend. So come on Tom a good performance is needed.

I wonder if they signed Cork because we told them Carroll wasn't available for permanent transfer.

Did we? Good news
Who knows. The poster was probably just assuming.

Just like I am assuming they signed Cork because they probably want Shelvey off at this point and Britton is like 33 or 34. They'll probably still come in for Carroll on a perm come the summer

Anyone watching the match today? How's Tom playing?

Very meh, in my opinion. He's got no protection in midfield, though. And, Swansea have been incredibly poor as a unit. They are offering next to nothing going forward. Often times Carroll gets the ball and has no options in front of him.

Yeah, I'm loathe to write him off for us as he's obviously skilled technically, but is that really enough in the PL?

A few times he's had the opportunity to go in for a 50-50 ball but has pulled up. I like Carroll's vision and passing, but if he doesn't have a partner in midfield that can do the dirty work and get the ball to him quickly he's not really going to flourish. He's been at a disadvantage from the start having to partner Jay Fulton.

And, how about that? Swansea City just scored and Carroll with a nice run forward and pass to Barrow who passed to Shelvey for the nice goal.

Is he ever going to have the creative output, or personality to warrant a pure minder for him in midfield though? Most clubs have to players that play with and without the ball these days. He's never going to be a Fabregas, warranting a Matic to do all his donkey work.

I really do like Carroll but if we can get anything north of 5m at this point, I'd probably take it and put that money towards a player that could probably do the things Poch requires from his central midfielders. In a 4-3-3 he could probably do some good things, however.

Talk of alli being 6m Carroll must be worth more than 5 m

Not too sure to be honest. Alli is widely considered to be a player that has huge potential and could eventually command a transfer fee that dwarfs that 6m fee. Carroll on the other hand looks like a player that is a tidy little passer of the ball with good vision but doesn't have the best attributes for a player that will be playing in central midfield. I think 5-7m for Carroll is all we will get at this point in time, should we choose to cash in.

Agreed. I like him but can't really see him being good enough to be a starting CM for us given the personelle we currently have, let alone who we may choose to bring in.

Thought he played well second half, started the move that lead to the winner.
He's coming along nicely, hope he continues to start for them, I think he will shine with Cork along side him.

I agree with you but he is closer to starting for us than Mason was this time last year.

Is this really true?

For instance we have

Paulinho, Dembele, Capoue and Stambouli at the moment

I think if he puts in performances like he did against West Ham, he could make a case for coming back better than some of them.

Out of those players in that list only Dembele and Stambouli are making a case to keep them around

Next season we clearly want a DM and I cant see us trying to do too much business.

Next season imo the midfield should be;

Bentaleb, Mason, Schneiderlin, Carroll and Dembele or Stambouli

Carroll would do well as the 5th choice
