'Tom Carroll completed more passes than any other Premier League midfielder yesterday when he got through an impressive 95 passes in the 1-1 draw with West Ham at the Liberty'

A Swansea blog on Carroll
Didn't Capoue once do something similar - earlier on in the season?

For what it's worth I've always liked Carroll, my concern is that he needs players to move so he can make the clever passes - so many of our lumps seem to mark themselves and never move.

These kind of passes rely on good movement, and this kid can pick a pass. I've seen a few from him like this and better than this; through players. I wonder why sometimes people dont see it with him. We just need to ask ourselves, who in our squad can play that same pass above? ....not many and hardly any.

100% agree. I have seen him do passes like that and better for Engu21s and our u21s. I saw someone post that they would like Carroll, Mason and Bentaleb in a midfield 3. Someone said that it is too lightweight and get overrun. Why are people obsessed with this.

Our midfield two yesterday was Stambouli and Dembele, and later them two were joined by Capoue. We still got overun and dominated there yesterday. As someone said Carroll played with Britton against West Ham anyone want to ask how to got on?

Crazy how some people write Carroll off. He is definitely underpressure due to Winks and Onomah coming through but he needs his chance. From what I have seen and what I know without mixing and matching I would rather have.

Bentaleb, Mason, Carroll and Veljkovic over Paulinho, Capoue, Dembele and Stambouli.

Additionally people seriously underrate the understanding these players have of each others game. I like Chadli but an example would be. Imagine Carroll playign for us, if people don't trust or know him they would more than likely come short for a pass. If Pritchard was playing he and Mason would make runs in behind knowing Carroll would pick them. It was a guess or a dream before, but bar Ceballos all of these guys have proven they can play Championship and above. The only doubt is Veljkovic as he hasn't 'dominated' despite getting rave review, but that is because he hasn't had the chances. This should/could be our midfield next year. I'd keep only Stambouli atm as he deserves more of a chane and I think he has looked OK but NO MORE cms please. Unless they are world class ending their careers or want to paly for us. Like a Pirlo or something

All of our best forward players do move intelligently, as do our best CM's - the ones who don't move will be on the list for moving on

As we've seen before - the players we want to move , those that don't move, never move on.

Totally agree with you.

It was me that said I would like to see them 3. I really rate Carroll.

Don't doubt you but it was this comment I was talking about in the 'ratings' thread

"Wish we could of played Tom Carroll in that midfield today."

"That's just what we needed.. an 8 stone midget up against a physical Palace!!"

More comments I found on www.thejackarmy.net

"Much better team performance today, Carroll was superb in midfield, always found space, passed well and drove forward with urgency in second half."

"Yes I know... but I thought Tom Carroll looked good today."

"You must have been watching a completely different match to me, I thought we did well in successfully finding ways to pass out of defence, although we did start hoofing it when they came back at us after our equaliser.

In fact, I thought Britton and Carroll worked well together, making triangles with Gylfi in attack and protecting the CBs efficiently with good marking and well timed interceptions. " But he's too small to protect the defence *sigh*

"Leon had some unfortunate passes also but Carroll looked like someone we should be picking up on a permanent basis."

"Sorry to go off thread, but as you mentioned young Tom, I recon he is showing enough to jeep Jonjo on the bench."

"Now that we've got a few bob in the pot I think we shouldn't waste any time in having a go at Spurs and try and sign him,by the end of the season he probably will have made a bit of a name for himself and start getting a decent price on his head,We could spend the next two years looking for a Leon clone and this kid is ready made."

That was me who said i wish we could of played Carroll and that was the reply i got. Also got called clueless lol.

Agree with everything you have said regarding our options in CM, yet some people are adamant a player has to be built like Yaya Toure to be a success. Funny how people see the game differently.

Yes. It was but cba to tag. For variation I wouldn't mind a Toure bulit player but it is by no means necessary if they can't play ball.

Our youth teams have never really had any big strong powerful midfielders yet have always done well. Though Onomah is in the Pogba mould

Yeah there is nothing wrong with having bigger players at all, but size and power is pointless if basic technique is lacking.

I would bring in Milner if we could. I think he could compliment our other CM's (the ones we want to keep).

I always said little Tom is a nice little passer but nothing for us as he offers not enough. But when I compare him nowadays with our lot I would have him over Stambouli, Capoue and Paulinho as a Squad option.

Im looking at our passing stats now and so far this is our top 5 passing performances have been

Capoue - 123 vs QPR(that was probably the worst performance I seen by a team)
Bentaleb - 106 vs Forest
Capoue - 104 vs Liverpool
Mason - 103 vs Hull
Bentaleb - 87 vs Chelsea
Eriksen - 87 vs Sunderland (85mins)

Naughton also got 96 against forest

Worthy mentions
Dembele - 97 vs Asteros
Stambouli - 86 vs Asteros
Paulinho - 75 vs Besiktas(subbed at 69th min)

Imagine a midfield 3 of Mason, Carroll and Bentaleb, it would be very balanced and all 3 have experience of playing in a 2 man midfield with each other but not all together as far I can remember

The cry is always for bigger, stronger, faster players and alas seldom for people who can play football, think quickly and pass the ball. The majority would always choose a Dembele type over a Modric type

Chris Miller‏@WindyCOYS
Had some interesting clarification from the Premier League about loans between Premier League clubs.
Chris Miller‏@WindyCOYS4 hrs4 hours ago
Tom Carroll cannot be recalled. HOWEVER, the loan *could* be cancelled by mutual consent.

Basically, why would Swansea agree to this? It's highly unlikely that it'd happen, so let's just go with: Tom Carroll cannot be recalled.

Answer - Maybe as part of a bigger deal - eg deal to sell them Naughton ?

All of this sounds highly promising. I've been frustrated by him in the most part as I was worried he was become a bit of a percentages player rather than making the most of his talent, but it sounds like he's beginning to take the responsibility his talent commands. Should definitely be part of our squad next season. If we were to have 5 central midfielders next season and 3 of those were Mason, Bentaleb and Carroll I'd be pretty fucking happy.
