Shearer is no Messiah. He'll give them some lift for the next few games, but they are still in dire trouble. I'm not sure he's enough. Anyway, its only until the end of the season so Alan knows where his bed is made (BBC).

Any new manager is enough to lift the team and give them a good run of form. Especially someone who is well known and respected amongst the fans and players.

This is precisely where Iaian Dowie fits into the masterplan...

Yeah but their next game is Chelsea, who will still be smarting from being taught a footballing lesson at the Lane.

Then they have Stoke away, who have won 8 games at home this season and then they come to the fortress, by which time the Shearer effect will have worn off.

Amen. Just had to tell a Geordie who said they were too good to go down, that in fact they weren't good. And if they were, then why the hell are they sitting 18th, two points adrift, one win in twelve with just eight games left.

He had no answer.

I just find it rather funny that the last time they actually won a trophy was when The Beatles were still releasing records and yet despite this, they still claim to be a big club!

You got to laugh at Newcastle, their in the shit and needed a manager with experiance and a proven track record to get them out of it, someone like Venables who they were linked with a couple of weeks ago.

Instead what do they do! They go ahead and appoint the "messiah" Alan Shearer, a great player, but with absolutly no managerial or even coaching experiance.

Would really enjoy seeing the so called worlds biggest club with the worlds self appointed best supporters go down.

Shearer has ot some massive bollocks. You gotta respect him, but i spose he is in a win win situation.

It will be even funnier when they go down now though :)

The sad thing is, whoever takes over will give the players a boost, it always seems to happen. However I'm confident Chelsea can cope (although they're not at their best), and if they beat stoke hopefully we can bring them back to earth with a bump. If they loose 2 of the next 3 any boost Shearer can bring will have gone.

Bloody Shearer! He's probably the main reason they've overachieved for so long.

its the best possible time for them to get a new manager then, because they ain't beating chelsea, new manager or not.

It's not the size of his bollocks, he knows that by taking it now, he has nothing to lose.

It wasn't long ago that he distanced himself from the role, although he is claiming that its because he wants to help, in anyway possible.
Personally, I think there is as much chance of him helping more, by actually playing than managering ;-)

Venables would have been possibly the only worse appointment than Shearer I could have imagined. May as well have brought in Malcolm Allison. And he's dead.

I wouldn't say I despise them, but I think it would be fucking hilarious. But I bet 90% of the teams in the League would say that about us.

I would "love it" if they went down, Ashley puts the club into administration and leaves, the football league deduct 10 points the "messiah" leaves along with any talent they have, and their self proclaimed "best fans in the world" stop showing up in "protest". This time in 2 years they'll have the best stadium in the conference! And any fans left can talk about the time they used to be a "big club"
