We beat local side CD Denia 4-2 in training ground friendly in Spain on Saturday night - goals from Taarabt, Jenas, Bent and an own goal.

Meh.

Apparently, apparently, Gomes dropped a clanger.

It was this one:

How can he play without a work permit?

And how exactly, did Bostock get substituted then play again?

It's only a friendly. If you remember our pal Qu 'Kev' Bo, he played in all our friendlies - you don't need a WP for a non-competitive fixture.

Taarabt was involved in 3 of the goals... Promising to see he's actually doing something useful with the ball...

One year older - one year wiser. His car insurance may also be cheaper.

As part of the keepers union (sunday league) I agree whole heartedly with this comment!

Me too.

Back in February I scored an own goal, then two weeks later Jussi Jaaselainen did the exact same thing for Bolton. I'd never seen an own goal like it and then Jussi did the same! Take a look, http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MyOHSaAgkLo&feature=related

Sorry, back to the topic. Great to see another win under the belt, especially to see Taarabt doing some good work and a goal to get Benty going. Nice to see Keane play too, maybe he's staying after all. Berby appears to be no where to be seen, maybe he was on the plane with the Sunderland quartet.

Anyone know who was captain and if Keane took the armband when he came on?

I bet Bent has a bit of a spring in his step at the moment. I thought he was one of our best players in our last pre-season, but unfortunately couldn't make the 1st team. He definately needs a run of games to get that confidence back. He would benefit most from Modric and Giovani's creativity aswell.

Its good to see Taarabt still with us. Hopefully he impresses enough to be involved in the squad this season. He's the sort of player that can change a game from the bench, and with 7 subs allowed, he could get involved more this season.

Its always difficult for goalkeepers in pre-season. They really need a run of games and a few saves to make before they find their feet. I'm sure Gomes will be fine in the next couple of weeks. Especially with Gilberto now out there to help him settle in.

I'm already hearing great things about Bostock aswell. I'm very excited by the prospect he has. I saw his cross for Lennon the other night, and he showed a brilliant piece of play to beat a couple of players and whip in a cross.

I know its weak competition, but its great to see us in on the goals. It makes no difference who we play, when you score goals it gives you great confidence. Its also good to see that the goals are very spread out, and funnily enough, neither Keane or Berbatov have scored.

I also like how we're building up from a very small club, to a slighter better club, and a better club (i presume) on thursday, and then to Norwich and Leyton Orient, before Celtic, Dortmund and the toughest of them all, Roma.

If nobody saw Gomes' mistake, it didn't happen.

best to get all the unseen mistake out the way in pre-season.

I can't recall one pre-season gaff from robbo and look how that turned out.
