One Gooner at my work is even more of a plank. According to one of my colleagues he made repeated visits to my office this morning for "no reason", obviously in the hope he's catch me. He saw me queueing for lunch and couldn't help leaving his table to come up and say "Mate, Flamini ruined you last night."

Fucking inbreds, I tell you.

Or tell him you had a fiver on Flamini to score two @120/1

Nice one son!

I personally think the league is the real test of a team and our ambition is best served by trying to finish as high as we can. This season has already shown how vulnerable all sides are, how one or two key players make the difference and how attitude is all important.

Poch is trying to use his squad as best as possible but individual mistakes always cost, like Fazio's. On the other hand if you don't give squad members game time then they are not up to speed when you need them In the Europa Cup Rose was awful, yet he was MOM yesterday. Just getting some game time I believe has helped to sharpen his game.

Sometimes out tempo and tactics will be wrong, sometimes players will make mistakes but I think there is an upward momentum about our relatively young and inexperienced squad. I think they believe they can be anyone and there is no reason why we can't be Man City this weekend

This. Every manager rotates their squad in this round of league cup. I feel sick when people finding unjustified reasons to blame poch. He is not perfect, but rotation makes sense. Fazio won't get serious chance before fa cup starts, maybe that is the reason why poch started him yesterday

I have written many times in the recent past that you cannot a build a winning mentality as a club until you actually win things. Liverpool fans now starting to understand this more than most.

I warned those fans who celebrated last January when we were knocked out of the FA Cup that they would not feel the same way in May, when Arsenal, or a team in red to be exact, would be lifting the trophy. I was livid then and still livid now.

We had a chance last night to knock Arsenal out of a cup, continue their losing run, extend our winning run and we missed it. I understand the changes, I understand the reasoning in the context of the league, but not against Arsenal and not under the current circumstances.

I hate losing to Arsenal. I hate Spurs losing full stop. But I hate losing to Arsenal with an attitude that it doesn't matter. It does and especially to those of us who predate the Sky EPL. I hated losing to them in the old Combination and Southeast Counties games. Do we have no pride left as a club and what we stand for or are the words around the stadium merely marketing selling points?

Look at the side Man United put out against Ipswich Town. Louis van Gaal was not taking the game lightly and his line up, especially his back four was a statement of intent. By all means play Vorm, but put one of our two first choice central defenders in front of him, or play Lloris in this game and Vorm against Sheff Wed in the next round.

While some fans are celebrating being knocked out so we can concentrate on the league and other competitions they are also looking forward to filling our new stadium with 61,000 fans every home game in a few years. What will we be hanging around the place? A #1 shirt with Llloris on it? So in a few years I can answer the question "granddad, what did Lloris accomplish?" - 'young man, he was our best player in the 2011-2016 period, made some great saves, played well for France, but he won nothing for us."

For me success is 01-Tait, 21-Dimmock, 51-Ramsey, 61-Blanchflower, 62-Smith, 63-Dyson, 67-Saul, 71-Chivers, 73-Coates, 81-Villa, 82-Hoddle, 91-Stewart, 99-Nielsen, 08-Woodgate. It is not finishing 5th in a league we cannot win. It is not finishing 5th in a league where 4th is our most realistic target.

I survived the relegation season. I will survive a(nother) loss to Arsenal.

Some fans accept second best too easily imo.

Another winning post, thank you.

I just don't understand why some people are celebrating our ejection from a domestic cup competition because of the vague possibility that it might, some-fucking-how, mean that we will now win the Europa.

The issue of whether or not the League Cup should have been taken more seriously aside, it just seemed neither one thing or another. Clearly we played a much weakened defence( and does a goalkeeper really need to be rested for a home match) but the very 2 players who could most justifiably have done with a rest before Saturday( Kane and Dier) are both played for virtually the entire 90 minutes.

Which is why I got so pissed off when somebody started a thread saying how proud they were of the lads after losing 5-1 to Man City last year!! More so that the thread was full of people agreeing.

Totally agree winning mentality spreads through a club.

Let's be honest - no one is happy we went out. Everyone would rather we had beaten Arsenal and progressed in the cup

People aren't celebrating - they're looking at the silver linings. Coping stratergies for the loss and going out the cup, rather than dwelling on the defeat and the loss of a chance to win silverware and letting it ruin their week

Wellllll...... I won't embarrass the poster by naming him, but some people were certainly celebrating the loss. You can probably go back and find the post for yourself, but this is what was said last night (oh, and it got at least a couple of likes, so he wasn't alone).

As far as I am concerned it's total bollocks to be happy over a Tottenham loss

Hahahahaahhahaha boo fucking hoo. Now we dont have to deal with more games. Need our players fit for games that actually matter like Europa and the PL.

I still think its a defense mechanism against the loss and I'm sure before the game they all wanted a win

I think everybody wants a win before the game, but to be pleased over a loss whether it's the League Cup (or whatever they call it now) or any other game is just not on (imo).

Yea but I think for someone to actually be happy about the loss they'd have had to not want a win before the game

Anyone who wants a win and then claims to be happy about the loss is just trying to deflect the frustration/sadness from the loss and act like they don't care

I agree but I think it comes down to acceptable losses. You can't win every game and not every defeat is equal in importance.

The league cup is the 4th least important competition we at playing in so it stands to reason that the defeat won't hold the same value as other. The fact it was Arsenal and it's the first competition it's possible to be ejected from slightly skew the results but ultimately by the end of the season most won't even remember how we exited the league cup.

When we were weighing up Sherwood, what tipped me against were those losses to arsenal.
That was a very tired team that turned up at WHL, and yet they still won.
When we were assessing MP's first season, there was much that was wrong, but 4 points against arsenal, and that win against chelsea meant MP had easily earned another season to put things right.

So MP did not exactly win any new friends with this defeat.

But to be fair the only time MP has ever spoke with real passion and intensity, was telling his derby stories of the players' coach being destroyed in argentina, so he knows how important these games are, and hopefully he puts the record straight in the league.

If any bugger starts a thread like that after we lose tomorrow I'm afraid I'll have some choice words for them in response.

Lets look at it this way, Liverpool lost Firmino and Lovren in COC. Utd also lost Rojo and McNair and might have to play either Valencia or Blackett. Imagine Toby or Verts being injured and having to be forced to possibly play Fazio IN THE LEAGUE. We have a slim squad. Perspective lads, we still play the scum twice in the BPL. I am confident we will beat them in both games. Our players don't seem to have that mental block against the top teams that we used to, look at the game Wednesday, we took it to them and deserved the win (with a few reserve players playing). We also went to Old Trafford and took it to Utd as well. We play City in the league AT HOME. The atmosphere will and should be fantastic and will SPUR the lads on!
