In all likelihood it's too late for this season. 4th place averages about 2 points per game, which would mean we'd need about 2.3 points per game from here on out to make it. That would be better than our best ever PL season when we got to 86 points - we've got to go from the last ten months of being a side in near-relegation form, to a title-challenging side overnight. The only other hope is that it's a low points total this year i.e. at least one of Leicester or Chelsea drop off significantly while both Arsenal and United remain poor, and then we only have to start playing like a Top 4 side ourselves. It's largely out of our hands because we've waited too long - you can't win things in the first ten games, but you can sure as hell lose them.
My main fear, and that's a good post btw, is that Levy has this all worked out and his failure to sack Poch as of yet signifies he's got the season to get things back on track.
As you say top 4 will require almost title winning form for the rest of the season...so this season is basically a write-off, and we could have another 7 months of this shit to suffer before we see any changes.

Great.

The most realistic route back to next year's CL at this point would be winning the Europa. We won't drop in to that tournament because we will finish second in the group. Winning the Europe would be for me better than finishing fourth, but I'm old school.

We will be chasing the fourth placed team the rest of the way and not convinced we will peg that team back.

But why does he have to swap full backs? Does Andy Robertson get swapped around every other game? He has created this whole you can't play players in two consecutive matches mentality.

He wants to be loved by the players and it just doesn't work. What other excuse does he have when starting Kane over Moura apart from the fact he wants to be Harry's mate. It's the same with Eriksen going out for a meal with him. It's pathetic.
I don’t disagree mate. He needs to grow some kahunas (as he likes to say) and be brave (as he likes to also say) and drop Eriksen, Rose, Aurier etc and start playing the players who will succeed them when they’re gone.

Unless he honestly thinks the others will do a worse job than the players he chose yesterday. In which case there’s an argument that he’s been hung out to dry by Levy and the club for not having a decent player succession plan and not giving him a squad capable of competing when the contract rebels stop playing for the badge.

That said, playing a clearly unfit Kane in the CL final over Moura still goes down as one of the worst managerial decisions ever seen in football ... and leaving Tanguy on the bench yesterday and playing Winks in that role instead is utter madness after his performance against Red Star. There are loads of other bonkers examples in the last 6mths too.

I do honestly sometimes wonder whether he’s putting out teams to deliberately get himself sacked and walk away with that payout. As crazy as that may sound. He’s clear

And if he does he can always turn around and blame the club for not buying enough players and of course the players for not performing for the results, not his team selections and tactics.

He gets a long holiday at home in Barcelona, updates the autobiography to the above effect and then a top club still comes in for him in the summer. Kinda genius in a way.

Sure he’s not, but crazier things have happened in football ...

(... and if he talks about being “calm” one more fkn time ...)

It’s not Winks that was the problem in the Mid 3 but Dele. Don’t understand the stick people give Winks. He always puts a shift in which is more than could be said for others. As long as I’ve followed Spurs - which is a long time - when we are playing badly it’s nearly always a homegrown player who becomes the scapegoat. Pathetic reflex attitude
The thing with Winks is that he just doesn’t offer enough. Great lad and puts in a shift but is simply not good enough for a top-4 team. Doesn’t break up play enough, can’t play defence-splitters, zero assists.

I couldn’t see him being bought by City, Liverpool, United or Chelsea, even Leicester if he was to become available, could you?

Thought I’d have a read of the Athletic’s report on us by that Jack Pitt Brooke or whatever his name is. Only read the first paragraph so far but it sums us up now and is very depressing. We used to be a good team.

“There were positives for Tottenham to take as they left Liverpool having only lost 2-1. But most of them were the positives that a mid-table team would rally round after escaping Anfield with only a narrow defeat, only the slightest dent to their pride, their confidence and their goal difference.”

On televised games is not the referees decision when game starts, he gets told via comms from 4th official when Sky say it is OK to start.
That explains it. We all know how much the TV stations (and media generally) love Liverpool FC.

Discussions on twitter about diving and play acting from both sides in the match in the match. Kane getting slagged off again.

Kane made the most of it but he did get a forearm across the neck/chin (which is the area he grabbed). Mane on the other went down without any contact. Pause that clip when Winks makes contact and Mane is already horizontal.

Another year of winning nothing whilst Harry Kane - our recruitment lottery win of getting a world class striker (the hardest type of player to sign) landing in our laps for free - gets another year closer to the end of his time with Spurs (whenever that may be) with jack shit to show for it so far. We're wasting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity by not having built a trophy-winning side around the best bit of luck that Spurs have had since Hoddle signed for us.

I thought at the time that it was a dive and that he should therefore have received a yellow card. That clip conclusively confirms it.

The worrying part about that isn't that he (and countless other players including ours) cheats by diving as a matter of course. It's that the ref was about five yards away with a perfect view of it yet he still gave a free kick.

Anthony Taylors decisions were guided not by what he saw but by what he heard, crowd raised their voice he blew, wimpiest homer I've seen in a long time.

One other thing: didn't they start a system a couple of years ago of reviewing games for instances of when the ref had been deceived by players and issuing retrospective cards? Whatever happened to that?

The thing about the Mane one is the ref has that exact view, and still gave them a FK.

I was thinking the same recently. I don't think I have seen it actually be implemented.

Looking at the table this morning, put me in bad humor. Eight points off 4th spot, seems a very difficult mountain to climb indeed. We would have to go on a great run, and looking at our form at the minute, I just don't see it

We have 28 games left. The change at the top needs to happen now, not in a months time, when the situation will be even more grave. I was always a Poch in man, but when I saw yesterday's team, how we played and how we reacted (didn't) I now know it's time to go. Eriksen is an embarrasent, plain and simple. He could not give a flying fuck about Tottenham. Aurier and Rose are the worst full backs I have seen for a while. Dele was poor yesterday also, even though he put in a good shift Tues last.

I woke today hoping I would see that Poch was gone. Not because I hate him, but for the love and betterment of our beloved club.

Long after these guys are gone, we all will still be supporting THFC and our kids after that, and on and on it goes.

Every game between now and next May are vital. Hopefully we are in better shape then, than we are today

Poch/Danny, do the right thing.

Come On You Spurs
This team isn't getting top four nor should it because if we somehow got lucky and made it that would serve to mask the problems leaving excuses not to recruit properly, we deserve nothing this season and I think we are in for a struggle to finish 5th or 6th such is how poor we have become this team could not put a winning run together if their life depended on it.

Flip side, to quote @riggi , at least that'll stop all the divs and tourists from turning up at matches :D

But going to watch Spurs won't be the same without the bizarre and amusing sight of a div using their ipad to watch the match that's happening in front of them.

It will never happen to a big 4, much less Liverpool.
