No. You were right. I've just got back from the game. We were not great, to be honest and one or two of our players were not at the races. But I've got to say Benfica were class. You won cos you were better than us. Very well organised, serious pace from Markovic. Luisao is an AMAZING player - I wish he was ours. And the whole Benfica team looked like they could have gone up a couple of gears if they'd wanted to.

I'm gutted at the result. But credit where it's due, we got beat by a very good side.

Performance wise. Our displays under AVB were dire, no attacking whatsoever unless Bale took it and ran. Dawson had the ball for most of the 90 mins and it actually made me lose interest in football altogether! There's no arguing that our football was so negative, at least we used to score under Sherwood, however now it's just seems they're a bunch of headless chickens.

What did you see in AVB's management that made you positive about him? Serious question

Hi all, I was watching the game on Sky+ at 1-0 without knowing the score when I accidentally checked the BBC home page. So I look on it as having saved 40mins of my life and a load of heart ache.

I'd rip your arm off if you offered me a point this Sunday when Arsenal visit. We're in our now traditional March nosedive. We might as well spare players like Ade and Sandro the trip to Lisbon and use the squad, and concentrate our efforts on trying to finish 5th, which is still attainable. It'd be a disappointment in some respects but I thought we'd blown 4th back in November anyway, and I'd still take finishing ahead on United and Everton with Europa League next year over slumping to 7th or worse.

I don't think I've ever been so devoid of any hope before a NLD before. Even with teams much worse than this there was a little something that made me believe, maybe delusion I don't know. Arsenal will, sadly, murder us on Sunday to top off what has been a shocking season.

Speaking of which, in relative terms, has this been our worst PL season ever? Obviously we've had worse teams and played similarly crap football, but the context was different. Given the signings in the summer and the expectations we had coming into this season, I'd say this season is definitely amongst the very worst in the past couple of decades.

Adebayor is shit mate, he shouldn't be getting rested in dead-rubber games, that's when he should be getting used. 3 decent games cause AVB got sacked and he had a ****ish point to prove doesn't change that. He should be the first to get fucked off in the summer. 100k p/w and he can barely hit the target. And as for his first touch, effort, commitment etc.

It's funny that the fans of every club he's played for before hate him.

Yeah, amazing what happens when players get drilled into certain system and style of football and the managers get given the correct support to do so.

They didn't spend 100m of their own money. They reinvested player sales. And after a few years of making more money on sales than they spent.

We still made a profit last summer - we spent less net than any club in the league.

But spending money wasn't the problem this summer - we spent too much of it. No way did we need 7 new players.

Its basics of defending, anticipation of the second ball and as a unit defensively we don't seem to have a clue unfortunately

If you are able to watch the goal again from the side-way camera angle, you'll change your opinion. He should have pushed the ball sideways, but he mis-judged the bounce and pushed it with his wrong hand.

I want to win the portuguese league. If we win the Europa League, ok, that's very good but first i want to win the league.

we are such a poor side, Eriksen aside we are rubbish, How many more shit games does Lennon have to play to get dropped, does absolutely nothing but run about. Paulinho really isn't worth what we paid for him and Adebayor despite working hard didnt really do anything but let the ball bounce off him and complain to the ref, can hardly wait for Sunday
