And another way to look at this is how we performed over both games against Chelsea, only 4-5 weeks apart.

Not only did we come out on top in terms of the scoreline over 180 minutes, 3-2, but I genuinely feel we've been the better side, not to mention we've had to cope more with influential injuries/suspensions as well, certainly when we played them at the Bridge.

There's a total lack of respect from the media imo, the Club who's punching well above its weight - baffling.

We had a great result against City and then we had that slump, we must avoid that again if we want to get closer to Chelsea and take it to the wire.

I'll take the "underdog" status, I don't mind it one bit. It's important we manage expectations, happy with top 4 anything else is a bonus.

Frankly I am too slightly worried about the slump, thankfully the next match is at home. So hopefully the team will delivery a performance.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this already but my personal highlight of the game was Poch bringing on Winks.. not for a brief cameo like most managers would when they wanna bring in a youngish sub in for such a pressure cooker game, but with a good 20 minutes of the game left.. Got to admit I feared a bit thinking we gonna lose the grip in midfield after Dembele went off.. Winks did well.. future star surely..

I watched both goals again. Kane wasn't being double marked for either of them. The first goal Cahill was closing down eriksen, David Luiz started running towards the ball which left Azpilicueta a difficult job of picking up Kane and alli. And for the second Luiz was on Kane and Azpilicueta was on Alli.

So what caused the goals was poor defending and Alli's height advantage over Azpilicueta and obviously good finishing. Not Kane's presence

Huh?

For the first goal, Kane has Luiz in front and Azpilucuetta behind, double marked. Alli ghosts in between Azpilucuetta and Moses.
For the second goal, Cahill pulls away from his position in front of Kane to close down Eriksen, Luiz is tight behind Kane, Azpilucuetta is left to mark Alli and gets run ragged.

On both occasions, the main CB's are where they are because BOTH have tracked Kane's run. They are both under the ball when it is crossed.

Both goals were defended poorly and not because of Kane's 'presence'.
If Jansen started instead of Kane them goals would of still gone in.

Luiz was no where near Kane for the first goal he got sucked towards the ball this forced Azpilucuetta to move away from Alli as the cross came in.

The second Luiz was on Kane. Cahill closed the ball down.

So he wasn't really being double marked for the goals. We could've played any striker and Alli would've still scored them two goals. You are giving Kane way to much credit imo

You're concentrating on the immediate, not the build up. Both Luiz and Cahill take positions to intercept any through ball to Kane, or to close him down if he receives it. For the first goal, Cahill HAS to try to close down Eriksen because he's nearest when the ball is pulled back. They're both off centre because Kane is. Azpilicueta then has to come more central to cover, leaving the space for Alli.
For the 2nd goal, Cahill and Luiz both start in positions to cover Kane. Azpilicueta remains to cover Alli but couldn't cope with his movement.

I think you're wrong regarding Janssen too. IMO, either Cahill or Luiz would feel comfortable marshalling his movement, leaving one or other to sit in and cover any late movement, but this is subjective as it didn't happen so we'll never really know.

I think you give Kane too little credit as you're not looking at the influence his movement has in the build up, pulling their main CB's out of their optimum positions to open up an area for Alli to exploit.

Just been reading through some of this thread particularly after the second goal and its interesting to see some nervousness, funnily enough at the match it was pretty cool.
Our defenders were so in control of themselves they seemed almost casual, I guess maybe it didn't come across well on the Tele buy any loose ball in the box we cleared without any snatching at the ball at all.
When they announced four minutes added time the guy next to me said they could make it forty and this lot still wouldn't score, and he was right.
Ten minutes to go White Hart lane was up and partying,
la la la lalalalaa you're shit

Chelsea won twelve league games in a row, regardless of what you think of them that's an amazing achievement. It's perfectly acceptable to praise them once the run came to an end.

Why are so many upset about the media comments?

A couple of points

Danny Rose picked up his 8th booking so he's bound to get a 2 game suspension before the amnesty runs out in APril. We need him around until we have played Liverpool away so I hope he's careful as can be.

I watched the recording on Sky when I got home and they reduced the volume to the "You're shit" song that was running for the last 2 minutes.

The lane sounded amazing last night.

What I would have done to have been there.

Me and my lad were singing away with the songs.

Be proud Spurs fans, you did well last night too!

They'd been praising them for weeks. The commentary is supposed to be based on the game we'd viewed, not previous games they'd already fapped over. Any praise directed at us was befgrudged and fleeting. Instead of analysing how well we played, how mentally strong we were, how tactically astute, it was all about how Chelsea "weren't quite at it." The only media person to call it as it was was Souness.

Chelsea weren't sub par allowing us to win, we were just the better of two good teams. The media begrudge this in the main and refuse to give Spurs credit where it is due.

West Brom though, who seem to be a bit of a bogey side lately. Well, they really get up my nose.

I was frankly fine with everything.... Till the ending montage.....

Instead of showing the highlights of the game... They show the highlights (the best goals) of the 13 (not 12 right?) matches they won in a row.... Only ending with Dele's 2 goals and and unhappy Conte. I was like... WTF, that wasn't what the day was about. It was about a really competive match, 2 teams that actually played a good tactical battle.

They were all ready to crown the new "record" holders even before the match started and they was like... What the heck, we work hard cutting a few clips together, let's just not bother about the key moments of the game and use that.

Morons.

I didn't know there was a montage, that's over the top.

Regarding the other stuff, until we win something, the media perception won't completely change and we'll continue to be looked down on.

When you play against 3 at the back your striker is always going to have two opposition centre halves in close proximity and one to cover runs ( Azpilecueta). I don't think Chelsea gave Kane any special treatment then they would to any other striker.
I just don't think Kane influenced the goals and didn't have a great game.

But oh well we disagree and I'll leave it as that now as I feel stupid giving criticism after a big win!

Unfortunately the narrative that we are a "big spending" club who ultimately "falls short" or "let's you down" is so ingrained in the media psyche it's going to take a lot of trophies to change.

12 hours later and the win still feels like a dream....

A team with 13 straight wins and going for the record
A team with more rest then us during this busy Christmas/new year period
A team which cost so much more then ours.

A brilliant win.... Now let's hope we can carry this momentum and belief for the rest of the season and on to the next.

COYS!
I think we can all agree that we can finally challenge for the title. We had a poor slump in form but still sit 3rd which shows how much more mentally sound we are. My only concern is its no coincidence we've picked up form lately as we've had no European matches to contend with. Yes we've had our injuries to key players recently which is a contributing factor to our dismal form in October/november but the test is to see whether we can consistently perform like we are now when we resume Europa cup duties.

Yeah, but its ridiculous - always turning a blind eye to what the top Clubs spend on wages.

I think there's a bit of both at play.

Chelsea made some poor decisions and you can definitely fault their defense completely on the first goal. You don't let Alli that open in front of net. There are players that seem to be incapable of scoring that you wouldn't leave that open in front of net.

But you can see the defensive shift that allowed Alli's first was predicated on closing space around Kane.

I think if Kane is not in the mix, the defense would have collapsed on Alli as default. But that's hindsight at best

But there's merit to your post.
