LLoris and Wanyama were at fault for the winner but I thought Dier had the worst performance today. He seemed slow and ponderous and there were a few times when he could have released Trippier, particularly in first half. Was no surprise that Poch brought him off first

Mate. Really?

I don't get the Dier hate.

I think he is one of the best players we have. Above Wanyama.

He is just amazing. But he should be playing where Wanyama plays. He is a world class dm. Play him in front of the back 3/4. Wanyama is a beast but so is Dier. And Dier is better in their box attacking. He is as good as Pogba in that position.

Poch is just obsessed with playing Dembele, Dier and Wanyama in the same team. I don't get it.

It makes us less forceful in offence to have three of the same type of players. Dembele is the best at covering midfield, Dier is the best at bursting forward. Wanyama is brilliant at stopping their play. But when a team is just defending it's better to just drop the enforcer.

He is redundant.

Hopefully getting Sanchez this is what Poch is thinking.

Wrongly, IMO. If you're a goal down in a derby game in your first match at a new home venue, you fucking well go hell for leather.
But when you then score the equaliser, you should calm down and take stock of what you want. I suggest that that was when we should have decided that not to lose was most important.

Just watched MOTD and for once they were spot on. We were sucked in by a very Italian old school defensive game. They also knew that they had no worries down the flanks as we had no one to take them on; Davies can't do that and Tripier mostly doesn't. Chelsea packed the middle of the pitch and we insisted on trying to go through the middle. We turned a wide pitch into a narrow one and that played right into the hands of Chelse

Disregarding tactic's mistake etc, your always going to miss not having quick attacking full back's in the team !!

Excellent post.

Few seem to see the passing range Dier has.
Few seem to see the tactical and positioning ability Dier possesses in moving between defence and midfield, closing the space of our defence when needed and providing an outlet to spread passes to WB when needed.

I gotta admit Dier is not a fantastic CB as Verts or Toby. Neither is he one beastly destroyer in the middle of the park intercepting play (he used to IMO) like Wanyama. But he has grown more to that, to a special and new generation type of player. He is the bridge between zones, on the right side of the field primarily, giving players options and time to regroup and pass while having the great passing capabilities in himself to spread the play around he sees fit, from deep.

Poch will never allow anyone to drift around areas and zones without the trust on them. Only Eriksen and Dier in the team have the license to do that, because they are so downright discipline in doing their jobs right. Eriksen only took off last December; prior to that he was still a hesitant and pussy playmaker..Dier is like what Eriksen was before, and I think that is the cause of his many criticisms. His final position and future in the club will be more defined after we concluded the transfers. But to me, he has the shoulders to the responsibilities handed to him by Poch.

And I am not worried about Manure being favourites to win the title this season. But IMVHO, they are just a Dier away from running away with the title..

Thats true but half of our team today were out of sorts and other than Son, the other subs weren't inspiring. Let's hope that Levy gets the players, that we have been rumoured to being interested, in before the TW closes.
They should not have been out of sorts for a big derby like this but yes some additions would be welcomed.

Once again Conte has his tactics against us spot on at Wembley. For all our huffing and puffing they had the more clear cut chances. Once they scored the first they never looked like losing, shameful really on our part seeing we haven't got the excuse this time of them having a strong bench. They were missing Costa, Hazard, Fabregas, Cahill and Matic (sold) from their strongest team of last season yet still beat us.

When it matters this team still continues to disappoint & the excuse merchants amongst our support are out in full force. We had a chance to lay down a massive marker early against the champs and smash this Wembley myth the media keep out rolling yet failed miserably....

p.s. Where are the clowns now claiming Trippier is better than Walker? We're a poorer side without Walker, especially at Wembley, yet these jokers were saying otherwise....

sorry but that's utter codswallop. We dominated them all over the pitch but didn't get the rub of the green.

Have to disagree there, it was a classic defend an early goal counter attacking performance from Chelscum and after our equaliser we played straight into their hands by taking ED off and going for the winner. We'd have been wiser to carry on the way we were, instead we opened ourselves up for the sucker punch and BAM!! we got nailed!!

I agree with a lot of this but what it showed to me was how essential pace is within the side, we need rose back and if the rumours are true regarding aurier then he needs to come in along with someone in a wide position.
We still have two weeks left to bring in what we need perhaps if we had got them in earlier the result may have been different, as been suggested we were forced by Chelsea to play the way we did because they knew we had no answer.

Monaco as away lol Hugo was utterly immense in that match.

We've played a lot more big matches in between those matches where he hasn't been culpable, but as per usual people love to rewrite history and over exaggerate just to get their point across.
What was the original point? What was the question of that point? And what is the answer?

No one is questioning his ability to make saves. Has he let in soft big game goals from time to time? Yes he has.

As usual, people love to take a basic question, see the basic answer, and then pretend it was a totally different conversation for their confirmation bias....

He was out on his feet.

We need to be careful how we attack at Wembley, the pitch is an energy sapper.
That wasn't the problem. He clearly wasn't fully fit right from the off. Poch tried to compensate by playing him in a midfield three, but then was forced to switch Dier because of the yellow card. Disappointing, but understandable.
