Spurs boosted by Van der Vaart as Toffees struggle with injuries

Tottenham will be seeking their third Premier League win on the bounce when they host Everton at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
After a fairly slow start to the campaign, Harry Redknapp's
spacer.gif
men have picked up the pace of late with consecutive victories over Aston Villa
spacer.gif
and Fulham.

Spurs enter the clash on the back of a remarkable 4-3 UEFA Champions League defeat at Inter Milan on Wednesday night, during which rising star Gareth Bale
spacer.gif
knocked in a stunning hat-trick.

Redknapp will no doubt be hoping for more of the same from Bale if he hands the star winger a run out against the Toffees, while the Spurs boss has been granted another boost with the return of goal-scoring ace Rafael van der Vaart.

Everton,
spacer.gif
meanwhile, will be heartened by their 2-0 triumph over Liverpool in last Sunday's Merseyside derby, which saw David Moyes' side ascend to 11th in the standings.

However, their last encounter at White Hart Lane
spacer.gif
back in February ended in 2-1 defeat, leaving the Toffees without a win over their North London rivals since November 2008.

Moyes' men have just two wins to their name so far this season, a statistic they will be keen to improve on against their fifth-placed opponents in the capital.

Van der Vaart is near certain to make Redknapp's starting XI as he returns from suspension for Saturday's clash.

The productive Dutchman sat out Wednesday's European defeat following his red card againstFC Twente.

Midfielder Sandro, who is ineligible for the group stages of the Champions League, should also come straight back into the side
.
Captain Ledley King and Vedran Corluka (both groin) are still out, Younes Kaboul could return from a hamstring injury, while Jermain Defoe,
spacer.gif
Michael Dawson (both ligament damage), Jamie O'Hara (back) and Jonathan Woodgate (groin) are long-term absentees.

Toffees boss Moyes is short of options in midfield for the trip to the capital due to injury, with Leon Osman definitely out and fellow midfielder Mikel Arteta
spacer.gif
doubtful.

Osman picked up an ankle knock in last weekend's derby and has been ruled out for four to six weeks.

Moyes was already without Marouane Fellaini
spacer.gif
(hamstring), Jack Rodwell (ankle) and Ross Barkley (broken leg), while Steven Pienaar (groin) and Louis Saha (calf) are struggling for fitness.

Dutch playmaker Rafael van der Vaart is likely to return to the Tottenham line-up after missing the game at Inter Milan through suspension.

Spurs could also welcome back Younes Kaboul after a hamstring injury, but Ledley King remains sidelined with a groin problem.

Everton will be without Leon Osman, who has been ruled out for up to six weeks with an ankle injury.

But Steven Pienaar and Louis Saha are on the road to recovery and may return.

Tottenham
Doubtful: Kaboul (hamstring)
Injured: Dawson (knee & ankle), Defoe (ankle), King & Woodgate (both groin), O'Hara (back)

Everton
Doubtful: Pienaar (groin), Saha (calf)
Injured: Anichebe (knee), Fellaini (hamstring), Osman (ankle), Rodwell (ankle)

Taught a lesson at the San Siro, Tottenham face another close examination on Saturday when a resurgent Everton visit White Hart Lane.

Gareth Bale's stunning second-half hat-trick at Inter Milan turned a night of embarrassment into a glorious failure for Spurs, but a failure nonetheless, and Harry Redknapp will be anxious his side are not caught napping again in this lunch-time kick-off.

Everton have finally woken up from their early season slumber and confirmed their revival with a morale-boosting derby win over Liverpool on Sunday. David Moyes's men are unbeaten in three and would climb to sixth, temporarily at least, with victory here.

Goals, however, remain a problem for the Merseyside club. They have scored in only four of their eight Premier League games, and Moyes must be concerned about his side's over-reliance on Tim Cahill - the Australian midfielder is responsible for half of their eight league goals this season.

Man, I thought our injury problems were bad. Looks like Everton could be without arteta, saha, fellaini, osman, pienaar and rodwell. I feel bad for them but its really encouraging news for tomorrow.

Also I had no idea we've only conceeded more than one goal at the lane once in our last 40 league games- thats an amazing stat, got to be some kind of club record.

Tottenham Hotspur v Everton Match History 1897 to 2010.

Saturday's early Premier League game between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton will be the 166th meeting between the two clubs.

They first met in a friendly in April 1897 when Spurs were still in the Southern League and won 2-1 at Northumberland Park.

Everton won another friendly in January 1902 3-1 at Goodison Park before the clubs had their first competitive match at the same venue in the old 1st round (today's 3rd round) of the FA Cup in 1904, which Spurs won 3-1.

Both clubs toured Central Europe in May 1905 and played two matches in Vienna and Prague which Everton won.

A further Spurs FA Cup win came in 1908 before the clubs once more toured together, this time to South America in June 1909.

The first Football League meeting between Everton and Spurs came at Goodison Park in the old First Division in September 1909 with the home team winning 4-2. Revenge came in the return match at White Hart Lane with Spurs winning 3-0.

All but two of the 146 League meetings so far have taken place in the Top Flight, the exception being in season 1930-31 when Everton won 4-2 at home in Division Two and Spurs won the return leg at the Lane 1-0.

The clubs have met 10 times in the FA Cup but only once in the Football League Cup and that was as recently as October 2009 with Spurs winning 2-0.

Strangely enough for two clubs with such an illustrious history, Everton and Spurs have never met in a Final of a domestic cup competition.

Both teams were founder members of the Premier League in 1992-93 and have been ever-present in the 19 seasons of the competition.

Spurs have enjoyed good success during this time, winning 18 games to Everton's 5 with the remaining 13 matches drawn.

Overall, Spurs have the edge over Everton with 61 wins to 55 with 49 matches drawn.

I'm glad to report that I've binned the cosmic ordering approach pre-match, as it failed to bring us 3 points against the spammers.
So, it's back to the old routine.

Not feeling confident about this one.

There, that should do the trick!

I'm fairly confident.

We rarely get outplayed in the league these days, so it usually comes down to converting a few of the gazillion or so chances we create every match.

If we had a balls to the wall goal scorer in our team, we'd probably win the Premiership

Anyway, 2-1 win today

COYS!

I've found another spurs fan at uni that i can watch the game with today!! So excited!

It was around this time 4 years ago in my first year I found another Spurs fan at Uni with a season ticket and someone to travel too week in week out to the game which I had been dreading doing on my own for 3 years. He's now my best mate, so make sure you buy him/her a drink or 2 as you'll have someone to share the pain with for the next 3 years!

I think Harry's going to make a mess of his team selection for this one.

Possibly but he needs to rest players after Wednesday and as both Modric and VDV didnt play they should start, as should Pav.

Seems like Palacios will be back and i would even argue a case for resting Bale. Would like to see Kranjcar get a start and Kaboul in for Hutton, Gallas or Bassong. Defensively we are poor at the moment. I would love us to keep a clean sheet today.

I'm confident we'll win. I'm also confident it will be a horrible game because it's Everton. The wet conditions will give them an excuse for late sliding tackles which get the player and not the ball.

Got a feeling in my bones about Robbie Keane for this one. He always gets goals against the toffees.

Our student union bar is showing it which is good so i'm going with my flatmate (whos not really a football fan) so we can get some food as well

I forgot it was an early kick off and on tv in the UK. Those two places are owned by the same guy and he shows us every week in one or the other, including 3pm kick offs.
