but with out Crouch there we wouldn't have scored. So even if it was a mistake Crouch being there still created the goal

we could put a lampost in the penalty area - we'd get a few lucky rebounds off that too!

Crouch needs to work on his power and he needs to develop a desire to win the ball, he always seems content to just use his height and let the ball hit him....try to guide it towards goal or into a team mates path.

I would really like to see him attacking the ball, he has physical advatanges over pretty much every defender and if he attacked the ball with a real desire to win the header he would probably score of force a penalty a hell of a lot more.

He seems content to get into a little tussle and just stand his ground allowing the defender to nullify his threat unless he happens to get lucky with where the ball bounces after it hits him.

Crouch indeed was gash today, but all in all a decent result when we only got back from Milan on Thursday morning after playing 80 minutes with 10. This is the part of the season when you have to graft and we did that today.

very true some people on here are just to whingey , we played better football than everton anyway. Defoe will be back soon so he will offer something a bit different than crouch or pav.

So back to the full game and my fav players where Modric, Benny , kaboul and VDV. Some great stuff by them also sandro looked good and seems an interesting player to have.

Just got back from the game, frustrating one today I thought Everton sussed the ref early on and payed him, not sure he got 50% decisions right and just seemed out of his depth.
Still getting on top of the problem where teams come and defend in numbers and Everton are a good side playing for set pieces although they never really looked like they could win, we'll get there soon keep the faith.
No bad games really today, I know some people are knocking Crouch but Christ he didn't half put in a shift today, never stopped running and working all day and he took a beating with no protection from the ref.
Special mention for Kaboul first game back and is so confident and also Sandro on in the second half looks fast, powerful and with no little skill, a very exciting young player with bags of potential for the future.
Today I am mostly feeling optimistic for the future.

It was a good result and performance all things considered:
1. We had played a tough away match against Inter, whilst down to 10 men only 3 days before.
2. Everton are on a surge of form after winning their 2 previous matches and had had a week off.
3. We went 1-0 down to an unstoppable goal but managed to equalise quickly.
4. We broke Everton down a number of times with slick football and the only disappointment was we did not take those chances.
5. Kaboul has shown that he can be a top defender.
6. We saw Modric return to form.
7. We never stopped pushing for a win and appeared to have more energy then Everton.
8. Nobody had a bad game (although Crouch's finishing was poor)

Yea good points there, particularly happy with Modric and Kaboul today. I feel a lot more safe with Kaboul than I do Bassong.

It was a strange game for us, because I felt we played a lot down the middle which to be honest was nice to see for a change. If we could have done this as well as providing both Lennon and Bale on the wings it would have been a lovely balance.

i was very impressed with the maturity of lennon today, he done a great job of tracking back when needed to nullify the threat from baines when hutton had pushed on. not his greatest attacking game but did a job today and put in a shift closing the ball down all game

Overall we performed well. Everton scored from a well taken free kick, and showed very little beyond that. We had a couple of good shots blocked or saved, some half openings, but this was a 4-5-1 Everton side in good form. Maybe we could have won with a bit better quality in the final third, but overall not too much to get emotional about.

The next game will be a big challenge.

Just back from the game.

Crouch was fucking awful today, about as bad as the referee.

The corner of the shelf/park lane started chanting Super Pav and Crouch responded with a sarcastic clap in our direction.

Perhaps if he ran, stopped giving the ball away, scored, looked like scoring, jumped, challenged or tackled there would be no need for people to chant Super Pav.

I fear we are dropping too many points to be pushing for fourth this season, though to be fair to Everton they worked hard and deserved their point.

Crouch was poor today, but those chants still arise even when he's playing well, he's the Darren Bent to Pav's Defoe. So I'm not surprised that presumably pissed off with his own performance too he decided to give a bit back..

He worked his nuts off today and that goal was his, it was just about to cross the line when VDV nicked it.

Yeah fair enough. Absolute bollocks chanting that at the time. It adds to the myth that Pav and Crouch are competitors and somehow mutually exclusive. The fact he did very little when he came on was probably lost on those muppets.

Anyone got any idea why Van Der Vaart jumped into the crowd in the north stand during the warm up?

Said it on Front Page, but seems appropriate to repeat here too, sorry:

The justification for Crouch's regular starting place seems to be largely the couple of successful knock-down to VDV a few matches ago, since when it became one of the main tactics in attack.

It is very predictable now and as such makes it easier to prepare against for the opponents with good experience in EPL. Everton today showed exactly the way street-wise managers and defenders negate Crouch with relative ease, aided largely by lenient ref - but this is a norm with EPL refs and we should prepare better against such tactics vis-a-vis Crouch.
It seems certain managers prepare for games v Spurs much better than we do against them (ie teams who are determined to defend grittily and dirtily while pressing us resolutely in midfield knowing this will lead to even more long balls to Crouch, which usually means loss of possession and momentum for Spurs). It has been the case regularly this year, not just this season.

As others said, Pav has provided more options with better movement off the ball and potential threat in 20 min than Crouch has done in 90, although as often has been the case, his runs were rarely picked and some people would still say "didn't touch the ball often enough/did not do much etc". And as someone said, 5 goals in last 6 appearances still is not enough for Pav to get more than about 20 minutes at the end, while Crouch without a single goal in the league and Carling Cup gets game after game. How many more chances is Harry going to give his beloved Crouchy to finally score in the league before he gives anything close to same chance to Pav?
