Considering we can't compete financially with the other top teams in the league for top players. I think what you mention above is something we need to make a priority and work on.

We need to improve the transition from youth team to first team. As much as i hate to say this but Arsenal seem to have this right and I guess it's down to Wenger.

All their youth teams must play the same because when I watched their u19s vs ours in the fa youth cup a few years ago and I was disappointed to see how they passed and moved together as a team compared to us. They dominated really and won 3-1 but it was the way they were able to create chances and play cohesively that impressed me. Also this seems to show when they step up into the first team, they seem to know what they're doing and just fit in. Was also similar in the cc against them last season.

It's difficult I know as we're trying to get the kids more experience by sending them out on loan as opposed to reserves, the problem then is that they play all different kinds of football and don't really get used to playing in a particular way. They go to clubs throughout the divisions and then when they come together things seem a bit disjointed.

I'm not sure how we should move forward with this but I think it could be key now to our future so I hope we work it out.

In short because we don't have a traditional system/playing style ie a blueprint....that filters through the Club.

Yep that's what it boils down too, and it seems to show when these kids come through they tend to look a bit lost.

Dull game tonight, made noteworthy by possibly the worst performance i've seen in a spurs shirt from a 'senior' player since Etherington got tackled by a season ticket in a 4-0 home defeat to Blackburn (2003). I'm new here, but anyone who knows me knows i can't stand the useless Pavyluchenko. But i don't think i've ever seen him as bad as tonight. Touch like Fred West.

Thought the boy Carroll looked good, but i think he'll struggle to establish himself unless he fills out a bit. Townsend could go either way, was a little disappointed with him tonight. Hudd clearly aint fit. Kranjcar looked good, hope he stays as Pienaar is perenially injured. Fredericks, i could be wrong but he looks to have little chance, had nothing. Eagerly anticipating the draw as despite it's heavy schedule, a European competition has gotta be worth fighting for

I'm fairly pro-Pav, but even I would have to admit that tonight was without a shadow of a doubt his poorist performance for the club.

Probably didn't help having a proper striker sat in the stands laughing at him. I assume Adebayor was laughing anyway.

How do Arsenal unearth a Wilshire or Everton a Rooney and we have a youth policy that being brutally honest flatters to deceive.

The youngster were tidy, but all were far from outstanding.

Pavlyuchenko was terrible tonight. But Huddlestone was far, far worse. And no, injury is no excuse (he looks overweight btw).

Remember that Fredericks is returning from a long-term injury. Still gaining match fitness.

Carroll is 19 and, if truth be told, looked very talented. I want to see more of him definitely.

Kane is 18 and showed some good touches and intelligence at winning the penalty. Ashame about the miss but he has something about him.

Townsend needs more to his game. He gets too predictable. Started off well but then waned. Being LB definitely didn't help though.

Livermore does the simple things. Calm on the ball and plays it easy. Seems to have a good head on him. He did alright.

All in all, I liked Carroll most, really impressed with him.

Don't worry. These things take time. Most players only develop when they hit their early 20s. Its a bit of an English obsession to bring them up early. I am certain that the club is developing youth in the right way and thay we will soon see the rewards of that.

I would like to see more of Kane to be honest. Neither of the front two had any real service tonight, but that doesn't excuse Pav for being a plonker with his shots.

The youngsters all played well and were full of energy and drive, if they made a mistake they got back and tried to sort it out. I will admit they do need to get crosses in and mix up their play a little bit, but that will come in time and I am sure that Harry, will have the ability to move them up to the next level....... As long as he doesn't go to prison..... And doesn't make the terrible subs like he did against manure.

Oh yeah, forgot about Kane. Thought that other than the run for the penalty he was pretty anonymous, though that may have something to do with little service. Not sure he deserved some of the plaudits he's been getting but maybe in the group stages he'll get another chance and maybe get a bit more service, then we'll see if it's the next big thing or don't believe the hype

Looking at Nicholson, Fredericks and Carroll, it appears that Hudd nicks their lunch.

I'm not in the Pav fanclub admittedly but that looked like a pretty typical Pav performance IMO. Honestly can't see what anyone sees in him.

I know the tie was over before the game began tonight, but that's 2 hours of my life I'm not going to get back.

No-one covered themselves in any glory, but the kids did alright if you ask me. Most disappointing for me was that, from what I saw (from the other end of the pitch), only Bassong amongst the senior players went over to Harry Kane after the penalty miss. They should all have been there, and Pav in particular. They should have been there to pick him up, not ignore him.

I think I must have been watching the wrong match, because I don't recognise this one...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/aug/25/tottenham-hearts-europa-league-playoff

"Europa League visit of Hearts to White Hart Lane had been rendered virtually meaningless by Tottenham's 5-0 victory in the first leg, though that did not discourage a near-capacity crowd from turning up to enjoy an entertaining game ... The exuberance of the crowd perhaps inspired the players to play at a pace that belied the fact that the contest was over..."

Agree with you. Just got back from the game. Carroll looked composed and comfortable on the ball, Kane did ok up front. Townsend was poor. Livermore is akin to jenas and fredricks did nothing. If I am honest I was execting a bit more. Early prediction is that none of these players will progress at the club in the way we as fans want. Hope I al proved wrong but none of them pulled up trees...

Just back from the game......

Main thoughts:

1 - Pav is atrocious in every sense - he sometimes connects and this covers his general shocking play
2 - Bassong is a liability - looked shaky all night and when it was passed to him and he just stepped back allowing their striker to run through i almost cried
3 - Carroll was the best of the youngsters - always wanting the ball and composed
4 - Townsend had a good first half but faded second half
5 - Kane and Fredricks were clearly very nervous and didnt perform well at all

what happened to gomes?? not even on the bench??

Townsend and Carroll were both guilty of always wanting to beat one man first. So they ignored some good opportunities for an early pass. In the second half Townsend went from trying to beat a man every time he got the ball to trying to win free kicks!
