Pool just much more cohesive and fluid. Took fish face time to get them there and will take poch time to build us to their level of cohesion.
Couldn't agree more. Only the start...tough to admit, but Pool's passage of play was excellent

While watching the game i was really annoyed he kept losing the ball that's why i checked the stats. I doubt you can be objective with Lamela's performance seeing you are to lamela what @Lufti is to holtby....... but he really was just as poor or poorer than everyone else. Stats was from whoscored.
Hey im always objective, whoscored doesn't give them stats.
No he didn't have a good game, but the reaction was to he gave the ball away 15 times which is rubbish.
Poorer than Townsend?
I don't think so.

I hope the manager has a lot more in his locker and is able to switch tactics and formations.
Don't like a one system set up,leaves us very one dimensional and very predictable.

Agreed but at 19 he is still a massive prospect. Just can't keep chucking him in for these big games. Needs more experience first
He needs to go on loan mate, he should be nowhere near a side looking to break in top 4, although on that showing we are nowhere near a top 4 finish

I got hammered on here for pointing out after the west ham game that we were no stronger than last season. We were poor that day but resilient and that got us the result, we play limmasol and qpr in the meantime and win easy, yet come up against a proper side it's the same old flaws that appear. I looked at our bench again today and I thought it was weak no one could come on and change the game out of that lot. And our starting 11 bar dier is same as last season. We have a better manager now but he can only do so much with this current crop. Most aren't good enough.
exactly, if west ham had put the penalty away, then we would have folded and got beat comfortably as well

I honestly believe we played some good possession football today with the pressing game showing signs of developing. I really don't think that Liverpool dominated at all - I can't think of a period of more than a few minutes in the game where they were applying sustained pressure, they just hit us fast and effectively on the break, with some quality finishing. I think we actually had similar quality chances (Chadli vs their first goal, Penalty given vs not against Adebayor for a similar offence, and any 1 of 3 or 4 counter attacking chances vs Moreno goal), but just didn't take them.

Anyway, I think we agree that moving a few out and bringing in one or two in tomorrow is most definitely required.

I didn't think Liverpool were all that good to be honest, they really did very little.

However, for all our possession we did even less. Penalty is what killed the game for us at the start of the second half. Never a penalty in a million years, a blatant dive.

Then not be given a penalty at the other end, sickening refereeing.

went down easy sure but he pulled a shirt of a player in the box, what is he thinking?

Mate, football is NOT a zero contact sport.

Netball is a bloody zero contact sport.

There are a thousand "challenges" like that all over the pitch every match and not one of them is a foul.

Hold ye horses fella - I'm a Poch fan, have indemnified him of this 'performance' and believe he has what it takes to create a winning mentality that's endemic throughout our squad.

However, the fact he was given a 5 year contract indicates very little in terms of assurances of his long term future. My reference to Moyes was valid in that he was looked upon to create a new dynasty under his tutelage and given assurances that he was their for the long haul yet results and displays discarded otherwise coupled with strong ego's that couldn't t be cajoled the same way Fergie could.

I don't believe that will be the case with Poch but to assume he's absolutely assured of his future here for 5 years on the basis of signing a long term contract is naive.

That's not a valid comparison though. Our history and circumstances with managers is the complete polar opposite to United's.

Where did I say he was assured of his future? - I said the fact that he's been given a five year contract indicates that he'll be given time - a reasonable assumption to make.

Now that doesn't cover all eventualities but it does suggest a possible shift in mind set and approach.

If thats a comparison you want to make then fair enough,Townsend cost nothing and Lamela cost £30m.

Are people surprised by the result? Liverpool is obviously a better team. They finished 2nd last year, they have better players in most positions and more importantly the same manager for three seasons now so they are well drilled and know exactly what to do. It will take time before we can compete with them again.

But we have just been humiliated again by a top 4 side. At home. And 0-3 could quite easily have been 0-6 or 0-7. And yet Levy continues to shop around in the bargain basement signing players that you would expect to be linked with mid to bottom half table teams, not a club with top 4 aspirations. There are only 24 hours left in the window. Can you seriuosly not see why some of us are really concerned by todays result ! And even more concerned by the way we were completely outplayed.

pretty much. we shop for the best deals, the top clubs shop for the best players. hard to see how we're going to realistically compete, our best chance is hoping for a nice route through the europa.

What's that got to do with us hiring and firing managers though mate?

Its got to stop.

Demanding instant success has been our problem on the manager front.

Pochettino shouldn't be under any pressure at all this season, barring being threatened with relegation or something.

As long as we are not staring at relegation I think we need to give Poch several seasons... And back him in the transfer market.

The worst part of this was the performance. If we lost but showed intent I'd be feeling a lot better. Was rather pedestrian. We looked extremely intimidated. Hopefully this might spark us into action over the next 30 hours. A forward with pace is required.

Today showed again that we don't have any leaders in our squad when the going gets hard most of them missing! Kaboul needs to be sold/got rid off he no longer has it to play at the highest level sadly injuries have caught up with him. Id take the £12 million Southampton are offering for Townsend & run before they change there minds. Levy needs to busy in next 24 hours we really could do with 2/3 new faces & getting rid of some of the squad players.

For a team that "shops in the bargain basement" it's weird we smashed our transfer record 3 times last season.

Where is our "bargain basement"? Underneath Harrods?

yeah liverpool did well, were playing a diamond formation but we never seems to attempt to get to grips with it, if sterling was constantly the other side of bentaleb and capoue how come we were so poor at keeping the ball if they were risking leaving 3 up (i know they weren't) just think our tracking was a disgrace, only one game but looked very familiar to what i saw last season.

Because we didn't use the ball well enough when we had it, simply the out ball from our 3rd to the forwards is either too hesitant which allowed Liverpool's defenders to get back into shape. If the ball was being utilised correctly then we would have been the ones outnumbering them in midfield because they only had one midfielder covering (Gerrard)

Rather then getting all knee jerkery we ought to look at the positives. The manager knows what and who we need and is looking to address the weaknesses of our squad. A string defence by signing 3 defenders, he's looking for a player who moves the ball quickly in midfield which is why he wants Schneiderlin and we lack pace up front which is why we're looking at Welbeck.

The big game embarassment continues from last season.

We were second best to everything today but my biggest worry is that we look like a confidence team, we didn't seem to have any belief that we can get back into the match.
I hope this game acts as a 'bringing the side back down to earth game' we will see in the coming weeks I guess.

It will take a long time for the manager to get the side playing his way consistantly but I expected more effort at the very least.

Too many bad performances all over the pitch but Kaboul was shocking, I counted four direct mistakes from him that put us in trouble, then I gave up counting and let him off the hook.
Hopefully Fazio is a huge upgrade on him..

I deliberately chose not to watch the game as I feared another hiding. I keep hearing that we should have had a penalty. Can somebody fill me in as to A) whether it was a penalty and B) what was the score at the time.

Just trying to clutch at some straws as I have to face 4 Liverpool fans tomorrow :(

Thought we were dog shit today, and thought Liverpool were quality. Genuinely think our team is pretty average, but I'm hopeful give poch time and he can turn us into a pretty decent side.

It was a shit result today, but it's a long season, we'll be alright. Poch will sort us out, that I have no doubt.

I'm optimistic
