Considering we still have PAOK at home and Shamrock away, we're all but through only needing 10/11 points.

LMFAO, that Tel Aviv guy kicked his boot at the lino.

I agree with Collymore thought Walker was good tonight, not the finished article but only his 13th game for us, his defending will improve. Carroll was impressive, the boy's the future when Modric jumps ship

Good win, thought it was a pretty bad performance though.

Starting to get infuriated with the overplaying and stupid little two yard passes that we are seeing more and more within our own half. These are rarely going forward but backwards and sideways and putting players under huge pressure on many occasions. This isnt just tonight has been occuring in a lot of the games recently. Needs to be cut out or better teams will punish us.

This.

I said very similar at half-time, we are determined to try and play like Barcelona but are nowhere near them technically and we slow the play down too much and are too easy to defend. Or we put ourselves under huge pressure and are forced to hoof it long.

this, it's a total disgrace Friedel has been starting over him. Friedel has been a very good keeper over his career but atm is nothing more than average. I'll take the occasionally Gomes mistake over an average keeper any day. If we want to improve on Gomes (which I don't disagree with, his mistakes were pretty costly last season, though overall he was ok), we should be looking to Germany for a host of very promising young keepers.

Gomes did make some high profile mistakes last season definitely, and that shock him to the core it seemed. But overall i think he absolutely outstanding, and on his day one of the very best around - see ac milan away for further reading!

Friedel is a good prem goalkeeper, safe and sturdy but he isnt in that out of this world pulling the spectacular out of his ass when the ball is surely going to hit the back of the net

and all its done ultimately is left us in the shit in the summer when gomes leaves, brad is 41 and redknapp is having a laugh and a joke as england manager. hoping the scouts have some special lined up for the summer:shrug:

Not the best of performances tonight in fact we were probably lucky to win. But at the end of the day wins a win! Great free kick by pav who along with Bassong I thought had a very good game.

Ref Gomes v Freidel I would have Gomes every time but he's just too unpredictable for Harry , shit sticks and Gomes has had a lot thrown at him

Saying that I am still 100% convinced Gomes saves more points over a season than he gives away through mistakes

I love Gomes but he deserved to be dropped.
Now he has come back and been given his chance and took it with both.....

Good move by Harry to bring on the cavalry
as we were at the point of being over-run.
Great result by our second team against an experienced side
that beat Barcelona.
Does that make us world champions?

Some poor passing to put ourselves in trouble at times
and a lack of urgency and pace.
Youngsters played well and Superpav back on his pedestal.
Oh yes he is.

Think we need another striker in January. Defoe and Pav alone do absolutely nothing to challenge or worry defences. Think we need a new right winger as well. Ship gio off and get someone in to challenge or overtake Lennon. Doesn't seem we have any youngsters in that position so would be worth it

They were a very good side who like many european sides played wonderful passing football but lacked a cutting edge and real quality up front.

Was very pleased with the win and again glad to see our youngsters getting valuable experience. We started that game with Carroll, Livermore, Rose and Walker all players that have been part of our academy set up in the past couple of years and loaned out to get experience which is fantastic. Carroll didn't really get into the game a great deal or at least found it difficult, but like Graham Taylor I think the lad has a future. Great left foot, technically sound and has that little bit of something about him.

Pav was excellent and looked dangerous throughout. Lennon and Gio were both dissappointing in their reluctance to take players on. Sandro was immense as usual as was Kaboul when he came on. Defoe was quiet but worked very hard all night.

Gomes was also excellent and I hope that he gets a chance in the league because he is a better keeper than Friedal.

All in all a very good night's work, no injuries and we should have done enough to get us through to the knockout stages.

Said this when I first saw him and will say it tonight. Carroll looks special.

Carroll reminds me a lot of Modric... not very physically imposing and therefore subtle, doesn't score much, but is incredible technically and passing-wise, runs all day, and always seems to be involved somewhere.

He's our answer to Wilshere IMO and I think he needs a loan this January to a Championship or even possibly PL side.

Great defensive switches by Redknapp. It was inevitable we'd concede with Livermore and Rose in the back 4, but Kaboul came in and he was absolutely amazing.

Gomes, Kaboul were great.
Carroll, Sandro, BAE and Bassong were good.
The rest were average to poor.
Turning in to some player, hope we have him on a long contract.

I don't think they were being negative, just honest you cant expect them to lie

I don't mind them being honest. I just thought the reaction was over the top. Normally in those situations they are more biased and just brush it under the carpet, laugh it off, or proclaim their disaproval then move on.

It just stood out as a little unusual at the time. It wasn't great to see, but players do it all the time and I've hardly ever heard the commentators laying into a player when its an English club vs a European club.

Anyway..not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Just happy to see a vastly watered down version of Spurs doing well in Europe. I'm beginning to feel that we should stick with players like Livermore, Carroll and Gio for this tournament if we progress further.

(unless we get to the final )

To be honest, Gomes has only himself to blame. In the second half of last season the errors really did begin to mount up, and I'd guess the Blackpool game was almost certainly the last straw as far as Harry was concerned.
He is the best keeper I've seen at Spurs since Big Pat, but, to paraphrase Clive James' description of Murray Walker, even in his calmer moments he keeps goal like his pants are on fire. Tonight he turned in a great show, but even so there were moments when you felt a monumental fuck-up was only a moment away. You may not get the saves few other keepers are capable of with Friedel, but they're the icing on the cake; what you don't get are the WTF? moments. Even if they don't result in a goal, they can't do a whole lot for the defenders' confidence. I wonder who ours prefer?

But why are we carping over keepers? We kicked off with just one certain starter if the whole squad is fit and held out against a seriously good ball-playing side. A great night's work. If we can't be proud of this something's got to be wrong.
