Not only talking about this game but agreed stronger squad required..
we definitely have a stronger squad than last season
we lost three starting players of last season who clinched fifth for us(mason, bentaleb and chadli), and this season dier, dembele and alli stepped up to secure CL for us

I am not going to calm down, that performance today was pathetic, you think the scum are going to not turn up against City? They will put an absolute shift in now, we could have wrapped it up earlier and not had to rely on City winning if it were not for the fact we utterly bottled it and decided not to turn up.
City need a win or no champs league. We will see in a few hours but I expect city to win well

It would have helped having shots on goals first though... We have people capable of some brilliance/goals from range out of nothing (Eriksen, Kane, Chadli I'll lump in, Son in a previous life) but, and it may just be me heavily influenced by our two recent home games, we seem to be trying to walk the ball in (whatever the stats about no. of shots say today, I don't believe them) rather than earlier in the season when we seemed to be peppering the opposition goal with shots.

Agreed, the stats were a joke today - 23 attempts from us apparently, which was clearly bollocks. I was screaming for someone to just shift a yard and shoot.

frankly speaking i think wimmer can overtake vertonghen next season

I think Poch was wrong to put Verts straight back into the team after Wimmer had performed so impressively. He should have been made to earn his place back IMO.
As has been said, Wimmer is better at defending corners and set pieces where we have looked vulnerable in the last few games.

I think it's harsh to blame Poch

I agree he has made and repeated mistakes with his tactics (mostly continuously taking off Lamela in a game where we require a creative killer final ball)

But the main problem has been the lack of depth in the squad and real options at his disposal

I can see why people would think it is harsh that I write off the likes of Mason, N'Jie and Chadli - I don't disagree with them per say

It's my opinion though, based on what I have seen of each player that they are not good enough for what we need right now and not going to be good enough for what we want moving forward. I feel we need to upgrade on all of them and bring in cover for Kane

All of our options for cover in these areas need to be able to fill in and do a job like Wimmer did when Verts was injured - I am not personally convinced N'jie, Chadli or Mason can do that nor that they will ever be able to

Yes it can be seen as harsh, but EPL football is cut throat and sometimes big decisions need to be made. People could say it was harsh on Townsend, Livermore, even Huddlestone or Marney/O'Hara for example.... but moving forward, in to the CL next year we need to have that level of quality depth in our set up and for me that requires us to significantly upgrade on N'Jie, Chadlie, one of Mason/Bentaleb in addition to bringing in cover for Kane

The second goal started with Mason giving the ball away. He really has not progressed this season. I think it would have been useful to have Bentaleb, but who knows what has gone on in the background apart from his injuries.

To be fair since the New Year we've pretty much failed every major test thrown at us. Definitely something we need to improve on.

A bit harsh. City away and United at home were big performances under some pressure.

Scum (League Cup), Dortmund (EL), Scum at home down to 10 men (Prem), Chelsea away (Prem), Palace ( FA Cup) and today. All big meaningful ties and we managed to lose or draw every single one of them.

We have come a long way with a young squad, but we have to start being ruthless and kill teams off. At the start of last season we needed to buy an experienced CM, one with a winning mentality and medals in he bank, and a striker as backup to Kane. If we manage that this summer we should be able to push on next year.

Still a great season, CL next year! COYS!!!!!!
What about the small ties then. 2-0 up against Stoke, 1-0 up against Newcastle, 1-0 up against West Brom, all 3 of those games were thrown away by poor attitude, same as today

To me it looked like a flawed triangle between Mason, Dier and Alderweireld today. IMO it underlined that the biggest positive change from last season as a whole to this season as a whole was new CMs and how Dier & Dembele really worked out. I find that some of the achievements that have been attributed CBs this season really are due to the new CM set up. But today, the CMs weren't really that present, and I feel this match showcased that we still have a bit of a CM problem in the squad depth.

Disappointing end to the home season. Reminded me of how we were playing at the start of the season. Not really an excuse but felt it was a performance of a team who had run out of steam and were struggling to raise themselves after being so involved in the title race for the past 3/4 months.
Like a lot of people on here have to agree that players like mason & Chadli are just not good enough for where we want to be. Think there are few other squad players who could be added to the list.
Hopefully city win today to cement us 2nd place.

For sure

We have developed a great CM pairing in Dier and Dembele

Dele Alli spearheads it well too

But looking through the rest of our ranks there is no one I'd really feel confident playing there and that is indeed a huge problem we need to rectify

Probably as important to add some quality there as it is to bring someone in to cover Kane next season

rationally i think 2 of mason/carroll/bentaleb will leave this summer since we still have winks/onomah on the list
clinton hasn't settled due to injury just like lamela's first year
chadli i think he is still useful on the left as he is a threat in the box due to his height which can ease the pressure of kane as he did it effectively last season
i think "cover" is not good enough if we really want to challenge again, we need "competition". mason/bentaleb/carroll/clinton(?) are covers, what we need is someone can challenge kane, dier and dembele

One thing is for certain, the atmosphere was supposed to be 'electric' today with people bringing banners and flags, wish i was there to sing my heart out the boys needed it today.

I think Trippier has been criminally underused this season especially at home against teams that have sat back against us. Will be interesting to see if he get's more chances next year or if Kyle Walker-Phillips can force his way into the team as he looks like he has the potential to be our best right back imo. Defensively Walker has been pretty solid in fairness.

I would have preferred Tommy C to Mason today. Feel he offers way more than the slow and ponderous Mason.

Njie looks like he's never seen a football before at times.

That Dier-Dembele-Alli triangle has served us well, but I think it brings a lot of trade-offs.

if so the one being picked out today is carroll
squad players are always being treated unfairly as if it was solely their fault but the fact is that the whole team played shit, and some players can always escape from criticism
