Vert and Gallas played well today, did nothing wrong at all. Vert for his first game some really impressive passes, and some really great tackles.

Dawson has been far too injured in recent years, do you want to take the chance of supporting a player who may spend most of his time injured?

His injury last season was very specific and was caused quite deliberately by a player pushing him to unbalance him in mid-air. Not just a freak injury but a pre-meditated one from a lower-league scumbag.

Dawson does not, and never has had, a propensity to get injuries.

As for Gallas, for once I didn't see the game, but he did get massively slated in the match thread when Lukaku came on. I'm not convinced Dawson would've been bullied like it sounded Gallas was.

Fact remains that he's one of our best defenders until proven otherwise, and so far no-one except Kaboul has proven otherwise.

So we didn't have shit results with Harry at the helm then?

Point is, nothing is won or lost at this early stage so whilst we haven't had the results we would have liked, what possible benefit is it to get on the managers back now?!

And this bollocks that Harry would have got 6 points is just unsubstantiated bullshit that people like you like to peddle to make others think you're so knowledgeable.

Give me strength!

Can't help being smart my friend, sorry if you feel inferior. I just like to base my opinions on facts like successful people who are more often right than wrong do.

If we want top four again which we absolutely have every right to expect to compete for then we needed to pick up more than 1 point from the last two fixtures. If we can't get them against Newcastle and West Brom then we sure as hell aren't going to get them against Man U or Man City.

This game reminded me of when we had Jol in charge as a manager of Spurs. Injury time equalizer because we were trying to defend a lead. Happened a lot of times under Jol. Attack is the best defense in my opinion. We should press forward at home even when leading 1-0. We should not defend. Every now and then we will get punished when attacking, but most of the time, we will be in a winning position if we keep the ball and keep on attacking even though we are only leading with one goal. We want to play exciting football, and we did not really see a lot of that today. We simply need more creative and exciting players. Hopefully they will add a couple before the transfer window shuts. COYS!!! A frustrating day.

I agree with this . Loved big Mart , but the tendency for us to ' Git the wagons in a circle' for the last quarter of a game when a goal up was infuriating to watch and resulted in numerous last minute goal concessions...often long shots I recall . Anyway horrified to see that happen again today , our panicking defenders playing so deep . Harry generally stopped this happening by carrying on playing the same way .Once our players get that defend at all costs panic vibe , all is lost . I don't ever want to see that again from Spurs ....and hopefully I won't .

My 2p worth.
Today reminded me of so much of the last third of last season, we dominated, then struggled.
Whether its AVB or Harry on the touchline the same problems are there. One big one is we find it very hard to close a game out.

Thought Vertonghen needs to be given much more more time to bed in - IMHO it will take at least 6+ months. Defended like Bassong but was graet going forward
Gylfi Sigurdsson for me looks like a very strange buy. I really dont get it.
Ade looked totally out of nic - not even fit, let alone match fit. He wont be ready for a couple of months.

Thought WBA did enough in the last 25 mins to take all three points - then we totally lost the plot in the last 10 minutes.

I dont think the managers are that important. Chelsea are proving this.

Next up Norwich

Lets move on...................

Harry would have won today's game easily, no way I can prove it though as there's no way you can prove otherwise. One way we can quantify things is what AVB's record is like before he's sacked compared to Harry's. I'll put money on Harry's league positions being better than AVB's. That's if AVB even makes it through a season.
But Chelsea have spent 80 million this Summer to our 15 so how do you weigh it up ? Harry drew many a game at home to a crap team. Wolves, Wigan last year to name but two

The main difference I saw today between us and wba was mentality. Their players seemed mentally tougher than a few of our guys. Let me start with Lennon... he shows so little drive and desire... it's the main reason I think he doesn't get selected for England anymore. Jeans almost singlehandedly gave them the point with his predilection for negativity. He put our back four under so much pressure through poor back passes and some bush league marking. Bale needs to sharpen his mental game too... understand his responsibilities don't begin and end in the final third. BAE... all comes down to focus for him... which is just far too inconsistent for my liking.

Where am I going with all this? I think this is AVB's biggest challenge. Either toughening up some of the guys he has... and / or finding those that have the mentality matched to ability to get us through games like this.

Bottom line? We really missed Scotty Parker today.

Not only that, remember that game against Norwich at WHL last season? I can't remember who was in charge back then, but I'm sure he has a son called Jamie..

I'm not getting any delusions of grandeur about AVB like some are..

After seeing his post match BBC interview it really could have been taken from any post match Chel$ea interview. Ten games will tell just how much of a risk Levy's folly turns out to be. I hope upon hope that AVB can make a difference but unless Spurs pick up a couple of quality players this week then we do looked void of any cohesive play.

So fucked off I was stuck on the M11 for seven hours with orient and baggies fans. Didn't get onto the north circular until the game had finished. Anyone else have the same problem?. Sorry but can't be bothered to go back through previous pages of this thread. It's all full of doommongers anyway.

I will just add that had Defoe and Gallas not been so lazy in watching the line we would have had 3 goals not 1. And let's try to keep in perspective that we are 1 point better off than last year at this stage.

i am still very positive about the long term plans for spurs , but yesteday was same old Spurs that i have watched ( on laptop) for three years.. We score then settle back and try to defend that lead.. We havent got the killer instinct that Man utd/ city and Chelski have got.. Thought Vertonghen had a very good game and looked comfortable when he had the ball.

You probably know what I mean when I say that I want "exciting players" at this club. Yesterday you could see that Lukaku was an exciting player, even though he did not score. If he had more exciting players around him, he would have scored against us yesterday.

Agree with what you say about yesterday. Both games this season we've scored and our 1st thought has been a negative one and trying to protect what we have rather than taking the initiative.

Get the equaliser against Newcastle, AVB celebrates like we've won the league and we immediately sit back and try and play for a draw. We barely touched the ball again before giving them the pen. Then finally get the lead yesterday, off comes Defoe for Jenas and we're desperately trying to hang on to a 1 nil lead at home to the mighty west brom.

As you said the top teams wouldn't have handed the initiative/momentum to west brom, they would have tried to kill the game with a 2nd.
