someone posted this link on twitter:http://ajax1.nl/archief/definitief-vertonghen-naar-spurs/

translates to:

Nothing can stop the transfer of Jan Vertonghen to Tottenham Hotspur in the way. After a marathon session at the Amsterdam ArenA were the interests of Ajax - Nakhli Mondial - and Amsterdam in broad agreement on the part of the transfer Vertonghen (nine million down, three million variable) receives reports De Telegraaf.
Late Friday night, the agreements were put on paper. Once that's done, put the Belgians in London signed a contract for four years with an option for another two seasons.
That deal is still around, is a relief for Vertonghen, who yesterday left the training camp of Ajax. "The last days were not easy," he acknowledged in De Lutte.

No wonder it's taken so long. Anyone who has had a marathon session in Amsterdam knows you cant get fuck all done.

Just a thought. Has anyone contacted talkshite by email or twitter to ask if they have heard anything about the takeover rumours. ? If they ignore it the chances are there is something going on.
If they ignore it the chances are they've got better things to do than satisfy some randoms curiosity

If you had been following this thread last night you would know twitter went mental with take-over rumours. Akqayid also dropped hints that Adebayor was a done deal.

I find it interesting that JJ who will normally drop hints at least if he knows something is saying he does not know and that would go some way to refuting last night's rumours.

So don't worry yourself I shall not post any more from him.

I think that the whole "press embargo" thing is a bit of a distraction. Yes, it is possible that members of the press have some info (from here and elsewhere) and have been unable to verify it - while our press do not have the best reputation for dealing with things in a fully professional manner, they still have to make sure that there is some truth to a rumour: we could sit here and manufacture a bunch of "ITK" quotes to create a story but most (if not all) journalists (if not their editors) would still want some sort of confirmation before running with the story. If there is a story here (and a massive investment/takeover was on the cards) then all Spurs would have to do is blank their enquiries until the time was right.
Add to that the fact that clubs would automatically ask for more cash from a club with stupid levels of riches for any player they wanted to buy and it would seem clear that the story getting out in the press before Spurs want to release it would damage our dealings in the transfer market - so there is no way that Spurs would want it out there with any level of authority.
I think there is something going on (no smoke without fire) but we will be kept in the dark until the time is right to confirm anything. I would imagine that there is an announcement to come that will include any takeover/investment details along with players, sponsors, etc at the point where the new shirt is launched (as it will need a sponsor on the front).
Patience...

I think this is on the money. It's all about having a controlling interest. When Abramovic took over Chelski he had to reduce his control of one of the Russian clubs (I think) and as has been said, ENIC were involved in lots of clubs but not as a controlling party until they upped their interest in Spurs.

As for how much constitutes a controlling interest, it sounds like 25% is the amount being bandied about.

It could not be more than a 25% purchase if the Qatar Investment Authority were buying in due to their controlling interest in PSG but if it's the Kuwaiti's they could buy us outright!

I was, I get the impression though that JJ's not privvy to the takeover stuff, either that or he doesn't want us to think he is.

I love the fact I am about to express a preference over which billionaire Arab investor I would like . . .
On the balance of desire to make a mark on football, combined with amound of money pumped in, I would prefer the Qataris - simply because they bought PSG, bought the World Cup and seem to want to invest shitloads of cash wherever they go. The "25%" rule that everyone seems to be quoting is not set in stone - yes, there is a rule that one entity cannot own a controlling stake in more than one competing club (and that would mean Spurs and PSG could not be outright owned by the same person or company) this does not preclude investment or even (as far as I can tell) up to a 49.9% stake. Equally, the model that Joe Lewis seems to be associated with is one of gradually selling up (for increasing profit at each stage) as the identity of the club is preserved.
Either way, this does not look like the outright purchase some are suggesting would be on the cards this year - but it could happen over time. Right now, the sensible move would seem to be to buy into the club (perhaps with a substantial sponsorship deal or an investment in the stadium) and then add to that investment incrementally over time.

Has AVB got any ties to Freund or are people just making shit up?

Don't forget, AVB is only Head Coach. Other coaching staff are not necessarily brought in by him, although I'm sure he has right of veto and a say. Seem to recall someone saying Freund is doing good things with youth teams in Europe, so maybe AVB is sufficiently impressed by his reputation. People at THFC will certainly know Freund as he still semi-regularly pops over to watch us, I believe.

I guess there is a chance they could have done their badges together at one of the UEFA training centres...

Yeah, he seems to have been fairly successful with the German under-16s. Of course I don't know much about the personalities of either man, but I just get a sense that they would fit.

And of course it wouldn't hurt for Levy to have someone who knows the details of every promising kid coming through the currently awesome German youth system....

True enough. I guess the people that AVB wanted on his staff have come in (can't remember their names now - Daniel Sousa? and...?) - I guess if he had anyone else they would have been announced at the same time. Everyone else will be brought in as joint decisions with Levy, I guess.

I wouldn't mind Freund, I always liked him as a player. Honest pro, got on with his job with 100% effort. Seemed to love Spurs. And also does a bit of coaching in Germany's youth set ups? I'm all for that. His knowledge of young Germans could prove valuable!

Would love to see us bring in some talented young Germans!
