Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Southampton), Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion), Joe Hart (Manchester City)

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Calum Chambers (Arsenal), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), John Stones (Everton)

Midfielders: Jack Colback (Newcastle United), Fabian Delph (Aston Villa), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal) Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Andros Townsend (Tottenham Hotspur), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal)

Forwards: Rickie Lambert (Liverpool), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)

CM and Defence is where this team is let down. Decent amount of quality in the other positions.
Looking at that squad, there's only thing on my mind: thank God I am Belgian. At the same time, it's quite tragic for such a great football nation that above is about the best of the lot. A shame really.

That midfield :ROFLMAO:

Good for Rose. If he is a world star now Ben Davies is right there to kick him down.

I'm not too bothered about the less than stellar names that have been picked... For once I'd like the England team to be maybe picked as an actual team, even if that means surprise selections, rather than just trying to shoehorn the best eleven players into an XI.

Rooney as captain is predictable as fuck, he should be thrown out with the rest of them that have retired. Get rid of the big names, put together a young, hungry team that hopefully has less ego's and build a side that is balanced and is cohesive.

Suprised he didnt call up Eric Dier after his recent performances. Have to say if he carries on in the same vein(sp) of form he could be a regular!
Wouldn't be surprised if the club told them to do one since he's so early in his professional career, look what it did to Townsend last year

I fail to see how Calum Chambers deserves the call up over Eric Dier. Both play the same positions CB/RB and have been good in their limited time with their new clubs, but Dier has been scoring and is older.

Then again, the England national team making smart decisions is never what I should expect.

True but it's a young squad largely. I'm actually quite optimistic about our young England players becoming pretty good.

The WC returnees had just about slightly over 2 weeks before the season opened, and what a transformation from what they were last season.

England are just fucking dismal.
That squad is as exciting as walking in the train with no umbrella and lots of heavy bags.

I'm so glad we don't have to deal with it all season every year.

Agreed. I hate walking in the train with my umbrella.

Surprised by the call ups, disappointed by the captaincy selection.

More surprised by the people who got overlooked.

My issue with England callups is that players seem to think they have made it, and lose their focus.

Caulker and Townsend have both been ruined by their callups, IMO. They've been going backwards ever since. Hopefully Rose doesn't let it go to his head.

If that's the case it's all on the players.
Talk about lack of ambition.

Nice to see at least Delph is getting a call up, he's deserved one. How Clyne doesn't get a call up though I do not know.

Wow, England have a really shit team!

So many average players in that squad that it is disheartening. No world class talent, maybe Rooney and Hart on the next rung down. But Delph, Colback and Jones are the epitome of average.

To be fair Chambers spent last season playing at Southampton whereas Dier was playing for Sporting U21

I'm so happy for Danny. He deserved it.
Eric's time will come, no worries there.

If England wants to actually do something they should call up Poch as well. ;)

I think the impact of signing Davies is the key to the improvement so far from Rose. He had it pretty easy last season because he was our only natural left back. Now he has serious competition on his hands I expect him to work a lot harder.

True, plus a new manager to impress. Not in any way knocking his performances so far as imo they have been great, but i am interested to see if he can keep those performances up, i hope he does.

This is exactly why AVB kicked off and Hodgson got the hump.

Love Poch, this is brilliant! :ROFLMAO:

Spurs star Danny Rose reveals Pochettino’s humorous side after England call-up
13:00 29 August 2014
By Ben Pearce, Tottenham correspondent

Danny Rose didn’t know what to expect when he was summoned to Mauricio Pochettino’s office on Wednesday morning.

As the left-back explains: “The manager texted me at 10 past nine and said ‘can you come to my office?’ I was thinking ‘what have I done?’

“I went to his office and he sat me down and said ‘I’ve got something to tell you – we’ve accepted a bid, we’re selling you’. I said ‘no you’re not’.

“He said ‘yes it’s true’ and one of the other coaches walked in and said ‘have you told him he’s got to go?’

“But then after that he told me he was at the Milton Keynes game the night before, against Man United, and he heard a rumour that I might have a chance of being selected [for England]. Later on that night the England manager called me and he verified it.

Names on the team sheet mean fuck all, I'm an Australian and when we named our world cup squad I had watched maybe 4-5 players play (for their club) ever and hardly knew the teams half the squad played for. Mostly 2nd Div Bundelisga and around Asia, yet we managed to play good attacking football and cause some very good sides a lot of problems.

My point is, fuck the golden players, get moist over a golden team.

Ps. Good for Danny, I hated him last season

Like the way Poch handles it. Instead of just telling the player in an aloof manner, this sort of tricks will only bond his relationship with the players and they'll do anything he'll ask of them.
