Big boxing fan here and I assure you that 80% within the sport tipped Klitschko to win. Fury was 9/2 in the betting to win. Make no mistake it was a big upset.

Regarding his homophobic comments, the "journalist" who provided the piece is already backtracking saying he misquoted him. Tyson himself has said as much.

The thing with Tyson is he says what he likes and won't be dictated to by anyone. Since when has the heavyweight champion of the world been told what to do or how to act? He also happens to be part of the only community deemed to be classed lower than any other group of people in this country, by the middle/upper class toff media. He has absolutely no chance of winning this old fashioned and massively out of date award and I suspect he couldn't give the slightest fuck either.
Regarding being a role model, since when has the heavyweight champ been required to be a role model? I've heard people comparing him to Ali recently and saying that's the example of a role model...yep, the racist, sexist Ali!

I'm no huge fan of Fury but I do admire him and his family in a way. In a time of fake, shallow, media trained bores, it's refreshing to have someone who is just himself and doesn't care what anyone else thinks. 90% of what he says is for hype, he actually seems a nice bloke away from boxing. Actually he seems a nice bloke in boxing too ( in the main )

The fact we have had some shocking candidates in recent years shows how much of a mockery this award is. Now we have female footballers with more of a chance of winning it than the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, which is the ultimate prize in sport, certainly individual sport ( perhaps the 100m Olympic champ comes 2nd )

Chuck in BBC giving virtually no coverage to boxing and Fury should be about a billion to one in the bookies for this pointless award!

I'm a fan of Joshua, the fighter, and hope he carries on improving and eventually beats Fury. I'm no fan of his well trained media persona though, luckily Dillian Whyte seems to have angered him and we are seeing glimpses of the real him, which is vastly different to the image the unsuspecting public love. For example, would people say dealing drugs is a worse offence than being misquoted by a two bob toy town hack looking for an exclusive? Remember that when Joshua wins the first of his "SPOTY" awards

His achievement pales in insignificance compared to Murray or Froome.

Even Ennis has a bigger shout.

He is above Hamiltion. So 4th place to the cheeky tinker is about right.

Boxing, is far more competitive than athletics, cycling and tennis put together.

There's a reason why the heavyweights chamionship is referred to as the richest/biggest prize in sport.

As sickening as this may sound, he has now achieved what Ali, Dempsey, Tyson, Lewis, Johnson, Marciano and co all did, and become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. As I say above, I'm no huge fan of Fury, especially as a fighter, but people can't take away from his achievement. Arguably, he's the first born and bred English heavyweight champion of the world in history. Ever so slightly more impressive than being part of a poxy Davis Cup win. The closest Murray gets to Fury's win is his Wimbledon triumph.
Tour De France is different and Froome should win it considering Fury can't. Massive achievement imo.
People need to remember 2012 is finished, the drug cheat and Ennis shouldn't be near it considering Hamilton is in the mix too.

Fury Froome Hamilton should be the top 3 based on achievement.

Maybe back in Ali's days it was but not anymore imo.
Agree. And I'm a big boxing fan, always have been. There's more interest and bigger stars in the lower divisions these days. You only have to look at the interest generated by Mayweather and Pacquiao, both past their best in their fight a few months back. That was the richest fight in history, not a heavyweight clash.

It's all about who is in possession at the time though. Potentially, it's always been the biggest prize in sport.

If a prime Ali or Tyson, or Marciano, Dempsey, Foreman etc, were around today they would make Floyd and Manny look like no more than a supporting act. Tyson was earning $30m for routine defences back in the late 80s. Mayweather on the other hand spent a decade building his hype and even then his popularity is something of a phenomenon giving his boring ( to the casual ) style and with no trace of charisma. I personally think one of the reasons why he is so popular is down to the lack of stars at heavyweight.

It's still the richest prize in sport, just needs a bonafide star to be in posession of the title. Fury won't be that man though, thats for sure!

He's not undisputed. And he never will be if he keeps refusing to fight the other belt holder.

It's all a big wankfest anyway and a waste of my license fee. I couldn't really care less who wins it.

Boxing, is far more competitive than athletics, cycling and tennis put together.

Hugely debatable considering the division you consider to be the pinnacle of all sport was rigged for years by two brothers fighting a succession of bums and refusing to ever have a unification fight.

In recent years tennis has had three of its greatest ever players occupying the top ranking positions, as well as other players capable of winning Grand Slams such as Murray and Wawrinka. Likewise cycling. Froome's Tour de France win this year came against the other three of the four best Grand Tour riders of this generation - Contador, Nibali and Quintana. With Aru emerging as well and a few French riders threatening to step up there are more contenders for Grand Tours than there has been for some time.

Again, Fury isn't undisputed, and so far when pressed about the likelihood of a unification fight he's refused. Doesn't seem like a great, confident champion when after winning his titles he's already shying away from the three opponents people would most like to see him fight.

Arguably, he's the first born and bred English heavyweight champion of the world in history. Ever so slightly more impressive than being part of a poxy Davis Cup win. The closest Murray gets to Fury's win is his Wimbledon triumph.

If Murray's achievement of winning the Davis Cup whilst going unbeaten all year is such a poxy one, why couldn't Federer do it? Why couldn't Djokovic do it? Why couldn't Nadal do it? In fact, why couldn't any other tennis player bar McEnroe and Wilander

Tour De France is different and Froome should win it considering Fury can't. Massive achievement imo.

Deontay Wilder holds a paper title in every sense of the term. He won't entertain a fight with Fury as it means he has to leave the States ( Fury won't fight over there again as he's trainer cannot get a visa )
Fury is the main man at heavyweight now, the rest are pretenders to the throne.

Tennis - only thing that counts, especially to the wider publics and even then that's only restricted to one, is the slams.
Murrays biggest achievement is huge, I'm not detracting from that at all. Just pissing on the Davis Cup. He's done superbly to win so much in this era. Federer, Nadal and Novak are brilliant, all legends in their own lifetime. This is about the 2015 SPOTY though, Murray hasn't done enough imo.

Cycling - already tipped my hat to Froome, superb achievement and he should win it.

Drug cheat? Farah. All that Quorn must have done the trick!!(y)

Who's the three people want to see Fury in with by the way?

Wilder is a knockout waiting to happen, he was on shaky legs against someone outside the top 30 in his last fight. His defences so far have been a joke, he makes the bum of the month campaign look like a row of murderous beasts. Povetkin is up soon for him, mandatory, I wouldn't be surprised if he vacated as it's likely purse bids will take that fight to Russia.

Haye? Get in line David, he's irrelevant at this point. Needs to earn his chance.

Joshua? Again, needs to actually earn a shot, it's too soon for him. I'd like to see him have another 3/4 fights and answer a few more questions before fighting Fury. It's not that he can't beat him, I think he can already, it's just what happens afterwards? Better off getting him fully prepared for world level first.

The biggest fight out there for Fury right now is the rematch.

Not since Holyfield v Tyson have I been really looking forward to a heavyweight fight. Truth be told I watched the fight last week hoping to see Fury lose. He didn't, it was an awful spectacle for the sport which I hope someone like Joshua can change. It'll be a long time till we see another purse the size of what Mayweather and Pacquaio had. I also think the hype behind that fight wasn't that Mayweather was so popular, it's that people wanted him to lose.

Fury is the main man at heavyweight now, the rest are pretenders to the throne.

It's a title, and Fury doesn't hold it. Until he beats Wilder (or someone else takes that title off him and then fights Fury) he can't claim to be undisputed in the same way that Lewis, Holyfield, Tyson etc were (all of whom held that 'paper title'). He could of course say he wants to fight Wilder - why doesn't he? If he wants that fight to happen it will. Same with Haye.

Tennis - only thing that counts, especially to the wider publics and even then that's only restricted to one, is the slams.

I don't think Murray should win it and I don't think he will. But you cannot deny the scale of the achievement of almost single handedly winning a tournament Great Britain hasn't won since 1936.

Cycling - already tipped my hat to Froome, superb achievement and he should win it.

If any cyclist is going to win it then it should be Lizzie Armitstead. What she's done this year is bigger than Froome, in my opinion.

Drug cheat? Farah. All that Quorn must have done the trick!!(y)

Oh come off it. What, did your boy Tyson see him with his top off? If you've followed Farah's career (and I can only presume you haven't, otherwise you wouldn't be trotting out that guff) you'd know he has always been a talented athlete (African born man being good at distance running shock!) and that his rise to prominence pre-dated his association with Salazar (not that his choice of coach even means anything either!). Doped athletes run faster times, throw further etc. Farah hasn't dominated distance running by running insanely fast times. His PB for 10k is the 28th fastest of all time. 5k 64th. That's not a doped athlete like Gatlin getting faster the older he gets despite just about every other sprinter posting slower season's bests once they're past 30. Farah dominates 5k and 10k because he is tactically superb.

There is still an air of suspicion over Mo Farah.

If you'd kindly direct me to reports about him testing positive rather than being accused with no proof despite his coach being in the spotlight for a year I'd appreciate it greatly, ta.

I never said he tested positive, I said there was an air of suspicion, he missed two drug tests and his coach is under fire.

Your spot on about wilder padded out record overhyped and a true paper champ fury outsmarts him and beats him easily.
I want to see povetkin in with fury at least with povetkin you know he will keep coming forward I think he beats fury.

Joshua has power speed boxing skills but has he got a chin?we need to see someone with a dig land and see what happens that being said he beats fury and proberly early we have seen fury put down by a blown up cruiser and some proper journymen although he has got up and gone on to win I think if someone with Joshua's power lands its goodnight.Toatally agree about Joshua having to earn a shot though hasn't done enough for a title shot but shows how poor the division is that he could actually be a world champion by the summer.

There's an air of suspicion on every rider in the Tour de France every year as well. Doesn't mean that Froome should be overlooked either.
