After their next two games against Madrid they'll be hanging on by a thread in that group. Basel can push on now.

Their only saving grace is that Ludogorets don't appear to be the walkovers everyone expected them to be, and could conceivably take points off Basel. But then they could also beat Liverpool at home. Which would be hilarious.

How the fuck did we manage to get trounced (the scoreline was rather unfair, but we definitely deserved to lose) by Liverpool?

I know the answer, the way we set up played into their hands and additionally they got a lucky penalty, but FFS.

Write a poem about that you twats.

I'm no poet, but I can channel the Bee Gees...

No strategy
When the football's gone and you can't score one
No strategy
When the Scousers cry and you don't know why
It's hard to bear
You lost your one star, now you're goin' nowhere
Ah-ha

Even if we had signed Welbeck it's not like we have Ozil, Alexis and Carzorla supporting him, I doubt he would have done much for us and as others say, the opposition is hardly the best tonight.

This is the worst thing about playing on a Thursday - I can't take the piss out of them until Friday and by then it's too late!

Yeah Welbeck was always a terrible player  :D
Tbf pinks, he hasn't showcased like that in...well, quite possibly ever.:D

The scum is the right team for him it would seem.

Wenger might end up pleased that they signed him on a permanent.

He's never had a consistent and proper run at CF forward though. Most of his appearances for United came shunted out wide and if he got a turn up top it was never more for one or two consecutive games.

He's going to score bags of goals in that side, and his finishing tonight was top class.

The fucks.

Would of been great for us to - his work ethic from the front and ability to stretch teams.

Well he'd have been "shunted" out wide here most likely mate.

He still wasn't for us imo. That team can cater for him and bring his game on. We're still in the process of building.

Excellent tonight though, agreed. I didn't think he'd be able to handle their quick combination play up front but he's managing pretty well so far by the looks of it.

Watched the Basel game. That club never cease to impress me. Lost some of their best players, and a cracking manager, but still played Liverpool off the park tonight, with Serey Die showing outstanding drive and energy, a real busy **** performance of the topest drawer.

Fair play to Gerrard for calling it like it was post match.

Always thought it was weird that so many of our fans scoffed at Welbeck. Yeah Gala were embarrassing but he's fast, he works hard, and he makes a lot of runs. I wish I could say our primary two strikers have any of those qualities.

Welbeck doesn't need to be a great finisher (though he took his goals well tonight) to score a lot of goals in front of that midfield.

I guess it's kind of a moot point because we couldn't have signed him over Arsenal anyway. Maybe if we'd gone all in early in the window but honestly I don't think many of us considered center forward a huge priority at the time.

As for LFC I can already imagine playwright and cringy Scouse poet Dave Kirby weeping into his pint blubbering incoherently about Istanbul and Rafa Benitez.

That club is so much fun...there needs to be more parodies out there.
